Arsenal rumours May 3rd – Phil Jones, Joe Cole, Gary Cahill and Kevin Doyle
It is unusual for a matchday to have so many Arsenal transfer rumours around, but perhaps the papers assume that the season is all over (bar the shouting) for the Gunners.
The Blackburn youngster Phil Jones has been strongly linked with Arsenal lately, and today Wenger has admitted that he is interested in him, but doesn’t think he is ready to join Arsenal yet. As any Gooner will tell you, Wenger should only be looking at strong experienced defenders to stop the leaks in the Arsenal back line.
Wenger said: “He’s had a few good games but we’ve not made an enquiry about him,”
“I think he is a good player – but not yet. He needs to play longer to really assess him.”
That’s fair enough I suppose! Another player linked with Arsenal is definitely experienced, and I can’t imagine that any club in the country would turn down the chance to get Joe Cole on a free transfer, but according to the papers, Wenger is not keen on paying his expected £120,000 a week wages, especially when he already has enough midfielders already at the Emirates.
He said this week: “Joe Cole is an interesting target, but do I have enough players in those positions? We shall see,”
A live possibility is the Bolton central defender Gary Cahill, who is rumoured to be in the frame for Wenger. And after Owen Coyle admitted that he wouldn’t stand in his way, Cahill himself has issued a “come-and-get-me” plea to any “Big Four Club”
“If a big team wanted me to come and play for them, then you have got to be realistic and look at the fact it may be a right decision for both sides,” he said.
“I’m not saying for one minute I want to leave the club. I have loved my time here and the club has done brilliantly for me.
“I love all the staff and the players. But every player is ambitious and if a chance came to play for a top four team then I am sure, like most players, you would take it with both hands.”
He is young enough and hard enough, but is he good enough to partner Thomas Vermaelen?
The last rumour today is the Wolves striker Kevin Doyle. I have no idea why Wenger is being linked with such a mediocre striker (except for the price!), but it seems Wolves executive Jez Moxey has warned everyone not to waste their time making a bid for him.
“What we want to do is to continue to improve the squad and improve the team,” Moxey said. “That will take a lot of time and will call for continuing investment in the squad. It will also mean that we will try to keep our very best players, not sell them.”
So in conclusion, it looks like three “unlikely”s and one possibility from todays list. Has anyone heard any other live rumours?

I hear Wolves want $10 million for Kevin Doyle. No way Wenger pays $10 million for a striker who in my opinion isn’t even as good as Bendtner.
Well likning somone with Wenger is always good for buisness. As everyone knows the man is shrewd in the transfare market. If AW has looked at a player he must be worth signing. So yes linking people to wenger is always smart. Look at Cana, went to Sunderland. i doubt they would have even looked at him if it was not for the link to arsenal first…
Th e ajax forward Luis Saurez is also linked with Arsenal today.. Does any one know much about him. Plus on the bbc gossip column Palmero defender Simon Kjaer is also being linked
Yeah, I agree Gary Cahill is the only possibility, and he doesn’t have to be Gallas for him to partner Vermaelen well, Cahill will be ideal for Arsenal, a strong, tall hard man who is also good aerially and will infuse some heart in the back 5. Vermaelen can make his runs forward as the playing CB while Cahill holds the forth. Goal Keepers IS A MUST, I say get Brad Freidel (old but very good, this will help Szcezsny get a few more years experience on loan, while Mannone shows what he has as number 2) I say Brad Freidel cause Brad Guzan needs first team football with Aston Villa, and they may be willing to sell him to us. Guti of Real Madrid is on his way out of Madrid, a good passer who won’t mind playing fill-in for Fabregas is another good option no one is looking at. Marcos Senna is another back-up i would sign to play along with Song or fill in for him. Chamakh is good enough, but i would bring in a fiery attacker like Balotteli as well. Drogba, Rooney play the same way this kid does, WE DON’T HAVE THAT KIND OF ATTACKER! I think Guti, Senna, Eden Hazard, Cahill, Chamakh and Balotteli would do us a big deal, And if Gallas leaves, Zapata would be wonderfull as a versatile defender. I know this sounds a bit much wage wise, but that’s the answer to our problems. Diaby, Denilson, Fabianksi, Almunia, Silvestre and some of the fringe players can’t take us far. Arshavin wants class, and competition for spots? Eden Hazard and Balotteli would make him fight more. Sagna isn’t doing any thing wonderful at the RWB position, and Walcott is another English hype, wish he is as good as the hype, but him and Sagna had no ideas on the right wing. Vela needs a loan spell in the EPL. Eduardo needs first team experience away from the EPL to regain form. Love to see RvP—Chamakh—-Balotteli front with Hazard getting in here and there. Senna—Song—Fabregas, with Guti coming in once in a while and covering Fabregas and Diaby coming off the bench for Senna (vise versa) Clichy—Vermaelen—Cahill—Zapata\Sagna would be awesome. Brad Freidel as the experienced goal keeper to play 1 or 2 seasons while Szcezsny and Mannone prove who the next number 1 is. I think these are realistic purchases. Cahill (Wilshere loan), Zapata to fill in Gallas’s spot on the roster (Can’t trust Djourou), Brad Freidel (class goal keeper, who is older and Aston Villa might let him come to us so as to give Brad Guzan a run at first team, also allow short term goal of seeing Mannone and Szcezsny become number 1), Eden Hazard (that bit of magic that will complete Arsenal as a force, a la CR9, Messi), Chamakh(has talent that will flourish under Arsenal), BALOTTELI (The striker that would add ferociousness to the brittle ATTACK WE HAVE) Must of the money would go to purchase Balotteli, Hazard, Cahill and Zapata, we would also have gotten rid of some players and saved a bit in high wages of Gallas, as i don’t think Cahill and Zapata would ask as much as we paid Gallas.
CAN WE GET THE BANDWAGON ROLLING THAT WE MUST MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO SIGN STEPHEN IRELAND FROM citeh….
I am so sorry for Arsenal fans that their good team in in the hand of a crazy man!! Disappointment one after another just because he believes in Fumbleiansky. The fact that the total age of 2 CB in Arsenal is 72, with a lousy GK in the posts, what kind of results you expect. The protest and banners have to be rised in Emirate Stadium, to send a stong message to AW, to stop this circus and shrade. Young talents in Arsenal are only good for the bench so that is a B.S. Arsenl is cursed anf as long as AW in running this team this is the order of buisness in Arsenal.
i was a fan of AW now i honestly fell that we must sell AW and buy the special one or anyone else.5 seasons is way too long for any top club.
is arsenal still a top club??? a big4 material
well wenger says he will spend and i believe him, it seems that this year and from now on we are making surplus thanks to emirates stadium paying for more than it self. if he has kept us in top 3 with bolton’s tranfer funds so lets see what he can do now we have one more like man utd. It’s been tough road but i really expect big signings this summer arsenal right now have a very strong squad, all that is needed is the 3/4 cherries on top which turn you from contenders into champions and with man utd and liverpool skint and (can’t believe i’m saying this!) hopefully spurs beat city for 4th then only chelsea can really match us in transfer market and they can’t get everyone!!
i think kevin doyle is an excellent player who has scored 8 goals in a bad wolves team after running himself into the ground can play left or right wing centre forward or off the front man he would get lots more chances at arsenal far better than the selfconfessed worlds no.1 nick bendtner i could think of 50 prem forwards i would rather have ahead of him there is to many french in the team clichy and sagna cant cross id rather campbell than gallas diaby to weak when it comes to the big game nasri top drawer he needs more british and irish steel
The Grover says:
Keeper:
Gianluigi Buffon as #1 keeper is a great change. Mannone will learn a lot from him as I see him as our future keeper. But Fabianski will probably be # 2 under Buffon — he can still prove himself — With a healthy competition among the other keepers – with income from future transfers guaranteed…they are all talented. Except Almunia!
Defenders:
Pape Malickou Diakhaté to pair with The Verminator is a no-brainer… Perfect! ( Sol and Johan providing cover) Djourou has a great opportunity to break into right back as well… I keep Clichey. Sagna is not impressing and is in high demand.
Midfield:
We need a back-up for Song and some more strength… Royston Drenthe of Real Madrid is the answer. FAST< STRONG< Set piece specialist… getting next to no playiung time at RMD. RVP could easiy persuade him to put in a tranfer request.
Striker:
Balotteli is a cancer. I hope Arsen does due dilligence prior to picking him. And check with the team leaders. Hazzard is my choice – PLEASE! Remey could also be interesting as cover.
Out: Almunia, Senderos, Silvestre, Sagna (unless he agrees to start payubg futball!!!) Deneilson, Eduardo, Merida (unless he choses to stay) Walcott (on EPL loan), Vella (on EPL Loan) Ebue (unless he wants to stay but Roma is looking good to him right now) and if Arshivan really wants to go, then Royston Drenthe is a better/less fragile left mid/winger anyway!
Well that's my oninion, but I could be wrong
arsenal is a good side we need changes in all departments in goals BUFON can deliver we must also improve the midfield Senna,Maicon,Yaya we need players who can deliver, experienced players all over the world Spain Italy France England even Germany or Africa mr Wenger sometimes must get some advice from us fans.we are tired of worries ,we need to celebrate not loosing.Arsenal must be back on track im a gunner for life.those old good days must be present
