Arsenal rumours Sept 1st – Chamakh, Van Der Vaart, Gattuso, Vieira and Matuidi
So the last day of the transfer window is upon us, and the press are getting desperate to find players to link with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
They have been pushing the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh all summer, but has Wenger finally taken the bait. We shall know for sure by midnight tonight.
Chamakh gave us a little teaser last night by saying “Yes, indeed, my representatives were in London. Maybe the offer has come too late.
I am focused on Bordeaux, but you never know what can happen. Let us say there is a 90 per cent chance that I will stay and a 10% chance that I will leave.”
Perhaps he was talking about West Ham? Or maybe Arsenal? But whatever, i still expect him to sign a pre-agreement in January to join Arsenal next summer for nothing. That’s another £8m saved for the Arsenal shareholers!
The Real Madrid and Holland midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart MUST leave Spain today, and has said that he only wants to join a Premiership team. He also said that the manager in question is waiting for Real Madrid to drop the price, which can only mean one person; Arsene Scrooge Wenger! Whether Madrid will finally accept the £2m offer from Arsenal remains to be seen, but i think this is Wengers best chance of an arrival today.
Again, its been reported that Wenger has refused to meet St. Etienne’s valuation for his long-time target Blaise Matuidi. His offer of £6m was reportedly rejected at the French club are demanding at least £8m for the rising young star of French football.
Matuidi would be a typical Wenger signing, up-and-coming 22 year-old Frenchman with bags of improvement to come. We can only hope that this one comes to pass, but i just feel that Wenger has had ample opportunity to buy Matuidi in the past but has held back as he is unsure about his maturity. Has he finally changed his mind?
Patrick Vieira would be bought only as an example to the kids, but is his ability blunted by the passing of the years. If Jose Mourinho doesn’t think he can cut it in the slower Italian League, would he be an asset to Arsenal, except as someone to introduce a bit of calmness in the youngsters around him. Patrick has already said that he is staying in Milan anyway, so i tthink that one is unlikely to happen.
Gennaro Gattuso is also being linked with Arsenal in the last 24 hours. I can’t see any other reason for this speculation except that Ian Wright has suggested that Arsenal need someone like Gattuso, “an experienced, tough-tackling midfield enforcer who would not have allowed himself or his team-mates to be bullied by a player like United’s Darren Fletcher.” to quote Wrighty.
But Gattuso is a legend at AC Milan, and there is no other reason to think there is a link, so we can totally discount that possibility.
So, to recap. Possibly (but not probably) Matuidi or Van Der Vaart, but my money is on no new arrivals and Wenger being busy all day with Eduardo’s appeal against his “diving” charge.

the transfer deadline is 5pm today not midnight!
nice post. I also think wenger will not be buying anyone today since he has already stated that he feels the current team is well equiped to challenge for the title.
Wenger pls buy us Chamakh, Mutuidi and Van Der Vaart to add depth, options and experience to our squad.
Pls tell Wenger that any money Spend on Matuidi is not a waste like that of Berbatov and Hargeaves. He should buy him. Up Gooners 4 Life
i agree with george but id like to be wrong, i still feel we need a defender and a striker, purely because of all the re-occurring injuries. I agree we are fine in those areas AT THE MOMENT,but what if gallas or rvp go out for few months then what??
As with other seasons our best eleven could play anyone off the park.
Our squad is also stronger then last season, taking into account improvements in existing players.
I still thnk we need more strength in depth and one or two more signings though.
Lets wait and see……….
plz our managerbuy us one midfield, one striker and one more defender bse we have started smelling injuries to our players like nasri, fabregas, etc.thaks, Gooners for life.
look here fans of the GREAT ARSENAL FC.
heads up guys and think for a moment how and what we have achieved so far especially over the past four years.
we will go down in history as the best team of this decade why?
simple we finished in the top four over the past four years how? because we brought not bought the players to the top of the premier.
other teams BOUGHT the league wether it was the premier or european league it cost them millions. if you have the money you spoil yourself and splash the cash it does not mean you earned it. most rich people inherit cash and do not earn a penny AND LACK THE SKILLS OF THE WORKING CLASS well this can be said in reality on all other top teams in the premier WHO BOUGHT THE CUPS BUT NEVER EARNED IT THROUGH WORK OF THEIR OWN.
the song comes to mind ( A WORKING CLASS HERO IS SOMETHING TO BE) every time i think of ARSENE WENGER this song comes to mind.
he BROUGHT YOUNG TALLENTED SKILLFULL PLAYERS TO THE TOP NO MATTER WHO THAY WERE OR WHERE THEY WERE FROM. HE NURTURED THEM LIKE THE BEST TRADES MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE PROUD OF THEIR HARD EARNED WORK. WOW SUCH GREAT RESULTS AGAINST THE RICH. YEP A WORKING CLASS HERO HE CERTAINLY IS . SO PLEASE LET THIS SONG RING OUT ON EVRY PITCH WE VISIT. LEARN IT AND SING IT LOUD WITH SHEER PRIDE GUNNERS WITH SHEER PRIDE.
VDV will not move away from Real Madrid. He has been told that Real want him to stay.
if wenger add more players;like chemack and any other, i am very certain of two trophies this season
Please our best manager buy a striker like Henry and a defender like Vermalen.
Unfortunately, I don’t see any movement today. If Wenger does sign anyone, I would be suprised. I think Chamakh will be a January pre-signing, and any other signing will be in Jan. Wenger is stubborn and never admits his policies fail. He believes in the current squad, and I do to an extent. But to say we don’t need more in depth is to lie to ourselves. But I guess the wage bill is being considered. the 40million + almost 30million (from CL qualification) is simply being used to pay wages and pay the debt.
LIKE ANYTHING IN LIFE WE HAVE TO PUT THINGS IN PROSPECTIVE THERES FOOTBALL AND THERE ARE POLITICS. IF WE WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM THEN MAKE A STAND NOT A FUSS SORRY DONT MEAN TO BE RUID BUT GATHER UP THE VIEWS AND PRESENT THEM IN PERSON TO ARSENAL DIRECTORS UNTILL YOU ARE HEARD
