The QPR youngster Raheem Sterling is considered one of the most promising young strikers in English football a the moment, and today’s Sun says that he is close to agreeing to sign for Arsenal after talking to the Gunners youth supremo Liam Brady.

It seems that Liverpool and Man City have also made overtures to QPR, who could expect about £750,000 in compensation, but Arsenal are now favourites to sign him, especially as he won’t have to move from his home in North London.

At just 14 years of age, Sterling has already played for the QPR reserve team, and has even made an appearance for the England U16 team, but at the moment Sterling is keeping his feet on the ground. Just last week he implied that he was happy to wait for his chance at QPR, under encouragement from Jim Magilton that he will get an early chance to get in the QPR first team.

“Everyone’s been pretty nice – they all just treat me like one of them and want me to do my best,” Sterling said.

“I’d like to play a few more games for the reserves and do well in training and play for the first team eventually.

“Jim Magilton has watched me play and train and he said ‘keep doing what you’re doing – I’m not afraid to chuck young players in the first team’. If it happened, I’d just have to be a bit smarter than normal.”

Liam Brady will also have impressed on Terling that Arsenal are the foremost team in England for promoting youngsters to the first team if they are good enough, and he could not expect a better training set up anywhere else in the world.
