Arsenal Sicknote Abou Diaby Suffers Yet Another Setback

Posted on December 31, 2011 by admin

The Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby was hailed as the “new Patrick Vieira” when he arrived at Arsenal five years ago, but he immediately broke an ankle which it would appear has never fully healed.

He has never made more than 20 appearances for the Gunners in a season, and has made more comebacks than Frank Sinatra! He was said to be returning to the squad three weeks ago, but he suffered another setback after another.

With the latest small problem, Arsene Wenger has now decided to give up on forecasting when the French international will finally be returning to fitness. Wenger said yesterday: “I don’t want to give any predictions on when he comes back because every time he tries to come back he has another little setback.

“It’s never a massive one but always little problems, muscular problems, and at the moment I’m afraid I cannot give you any date on when he comes back.”

This is a little worrying, especially with the news that Emmanuel Frimpong is to be loaned to Wolves for the remainder of the season. I am just happy that Alex Song is not going to play in the African Nations Cup next month and can stay injury-free until the end of the season.

can i just say something unrelated? I really hope we do not sell arshavin to chelsea. It is obvious that torres would play better with support directly behind him, but avb wants mata to play on the wing so he will not use him there. If they got arshavin, they could play him behind torres and arshavin would be played in proper position and torres would have support he needs, helping both of their performances. so SELL ARSHAVIN, BUT NOT TO CHELSEA

We`re supposed to be buiding a `new Arsenal`. With few exceptions the criteria is 20 to 30 years of age, proven talent, fit and injury free. If this criteria can not be met over a reasonable amount of time (like one season) then he must be encouraged to move on. Diaby has passed his `use by` date.

I feel sorry for diaby he has shown with a run of games under his belt that he has some talent and has contributed a bit to arsenal’s previous seasons. He just has a terrible time with injuries.

Feel sorry for diaby could have been a great player so versatile for a tall player But for that piece of shite from sunderland who steamed in to him near half way line with 2 minutes to go and broke his ankle .the boy has not been seen since hope our boy fully recovers

  8. Anesh says:

I do not blame Diaby, remember it was one of the opposition players, can’t get the name now that made the horrific tackle on him….since then we had this. Diaby is quality but due to injury he is not getting a chance to have a good run of games to really prove this. Still feel he is a vital player for us. Let’s hope gets back soon. Arsenal seem to have bad luck with bad tackles that lead to log term injuries, Ramsey, wilshere….

Diaby is a victim of circumstances ,no fault of his own, and I`m certainly not being disrespectful, I have no cause to be. On the other hand he is a professional who chose to make his living playing football and in the process earn the kind of money most of us only dream of. I`m sure he will continue to play but, as a professional he will understand that he needs to perform at the highest level, whether or not `lady luck` is in his corner.

We cannot afford 2 depend on a player like diaby for the rest of the season.Good, wilshere is coming back but,we still need reinforcements in the MF,most esp, song’s backup or partner.

  16. Big Gun says:

It’s unfortunate that we have players constantly injured all the time. For the player it must be frustrating. BUT Arsenal is not some type of charity service. We are a professional football club and a business (maybe the latter being more prominent these days, unfortunately). I have sympathy for these injured players, but at the same time they are just eating up the wages with no input. I’m talking about players who are constantly injured like Diaby. The rate he is going, he doesn’t have a very bright footballing career left. Sorry but from a managerial and business point of view, players like Diaby are a liability. Let’s admit he isn’t our greatest player, average at best. He hasn’t really done much for the club even when he played more regularly.

I will not sit here and sugarcoat these situations we always seem to find ourselves in. It is costing us money which could be put to better use, like buying in better players or increasing our current non-injury players wages – RvP, Walcott. Instead we have a heap of average and injury prone players we keep harboring. Get rid of them please. As I said if we want to be a top club, we need to be hard and do things properly.

  17. razzaray says:

It’s great that he will be back for seasons end. But I do think that we have to have players that can play as attacking midfielder and also cover and be willing to cover in other positions in abundance. Or get players in for the new season before their price is bumped up, even if we loan them back till the seasons end. Plan for next season now!!!

  19. Gooner323 says:

I think that as long as diaby stays injury prone he can no longer be seen as an asset to arsenal because he just gets setback after setback and for that reason we should sell him and bring in a versatile midfielder who is able to provide defensive cover and has attacking qualities aswell, someone like M’vila would be good as he is young versatile and a strong player however I CANNOT see Anyone buying diaby with his injury record!

Folks – He earns big money so stop feeling sorry for him. He is timid, slows the game and is a kind of loner (i’have not seen him mingling with other players). For this reason plus the recurring injuries DIABY should be sold. Even letting him go for free is fine…no worries.

Sm pple here are fans bt lack the deep knowlege of ftball. uv memories n are harsh on Diaby’s mistakes. Diaby is great only tht Wenger has nt wel aligned his holding, passing n attacking ability wid arsenal’s pace n style. Our downfal at newcastle woz purely showed how our players luz focus 2gether wid Wenger who shd av changed the game plan. Teams win wid 3men less so blame on Diaby is jst unjustified.

He may be the only option that Wenger has for Rambo in the Mid. Rosicky and Ashravin are too slow and cannot shoot to save their souls. I am not a Diaby fan but he has a lot more to offer than Rambo, Rosicky & Ashravin when fit. They all take too many touches than necesary and are more predictable than Diaby. He is a definite game changer.
