Arsenal sign 16 year-old striker!
As usual during the transfer window, Arsenal are linked to many many top stars, but as usual we find that a schoolboy or two are practically certain to arrive.
Today it has been announced that Arsenal have completed the signing of Phillip Roberts, a 16 year-old Republic of Ireland striker. He was actually born in England but opted to play for Ireland by his parents birthplace.
The Young Guns website, who broke the news today, described Roberts as : Roberts leads a new wave of different and exciting Irish talent.
Philip has only been part of the Norwich City Academy for a few years, yet he’s earned a solid reputation during his time in Norfolk. A quick, powerful, strong and skillful striker who can play either down the middle as a target man, versatility in a variety of formations is a key tick in the box.
The youngster has been hitting large numbers of goals for Norwich’s Under 15’s but it was the step up into the Under 16’s last year where he really impressed. His frightening pace has run teams ragged, including Arsenal. Roberts fired home an injury time winner at Norwich’s Colney training centre, and went on to bag a number of goals throughout the campaign.
Last year Roberts was selected for the Irish U16 side, and marked his debut against the Czech Republic with a dazzling winning goal in the dying minutes, and his skills were brought to the attention of Liam Brady, who invited him to Arsenal for a trial near the end of the season.
Roberts trial proved to be more than worthwhile as he scored two goals on his debut, and impressed Brady every time he played.
He certainly looks like a star of the future, and a typical Arsenal signing!

but i think people underrate vela and bendtner. bendtner for a 22 year old he has a decent goal scoring record. ok not top class like rooney or torres but he is better than drogba was ten years ago. infact drogba played in second division at 22 years of age. I think we need to trust in the team. They are just comming by the age..everyone is getting to a perfect playing age. If we just put on some write signings we will be definitely be flying. Just a bit of dept. All of the fans have been fusing about the goalkeeping areas but i dont think it is so much big of concerns. yes there were mistakes..costly ones too..but that alone didnt sum up our season. One or two mistakes wouldnt have cost us the season. Yes it would be a boost if we had a now goalkeeper.. but we shouldnt be disapointed if we dont get one becoz if we get about two signings in defence and one in holing midfield(given fabregas doesnt leave)..we should be ok.
And about Hazard what i feel is he is not a necessity because we have british young players who are comming through the ranks like ramsey and wilshere who are more loyal, but that lad is something special..so it would be great to be a part of his “specialness”. I just wanted to suggest my fellow arsenal fans to be a bit patient and be optimistic because next season is going to be great..and once the wining mentality kickstarts its gona follow till years to come..

I think we will win something if the defence is up to it. And because Wenger mentioned the defense at the end of the season, he will definitely switch things up to compensate and bring down the number of goals scored against out team. We we were in a very good place most of last season, except the final few games, so we’ll be in a better place next season, seeing as our young guns are getting stronger every year, and with these few additions, we might just be the team leading the pack come the end of 2011.
A great example is the growth of Song over last summer, and how much he developed in such a short time, imagine with some of our stars not at the world cup, how much development they will have to bring into the new season…

@ Gooner : I was just asking ,I don’t mind that barcelona had a practice games with us in cl , I don’t mind that celski and united beat us last season home and away without much effort , I don’t mind that we have that guy between the posts that we call a goalkeeper , I don’t mind the fact that I always hear that we are in great financial situation but we transfer 16 year old players or out of contract players , and i could go on and on ,so give me a break boy

well its good news although it will take time for him to become what we want if things go well.It is part of the policy to develop the young talents and turn them to stars, it has been working over the years because the Boss usually add exprience to the talents but these years he seemed to have forgotten that area of the policy. But am seeing light at the end of the tunnel if only the defence is sorted out plus one addition in the middle and we are there! I can see abundant of rain on our favour next season! Our mockers will cerebrate with us in the 2010/2011 season, watch out for a change of stories arsenal comrades, our hour has come! As for Fabregas I doubt if he will be leaving this season!

@jj: Im just asking you to be a bit optimistic. Everyone will be a year older. Looking at your comments it looks as if though we have to change the whole team. And talking about the financial situation.. well we didnt have a good one until this transfer window. AW did well in guiding the team during financial crisis. Why do you think all the invincibles left? Because they knew after the new stadium was built the club’s finances would not be great and it would be very hard to aim for the top spots. But now its different. The team have been playing for so long now. The young tag can be removed now because we have so much of experience for that age. look at fabregas..he is 23 and has 6 years of premierleague experience!! and its a similar stories of other players. And the man in between the two sticks alone doest save a goal. The men infront of them and a man infront of them have a big part..bigger than the man between the sticks. So thats really and area we need to boost. For other midfields i can believe that they can be a year stronger and will be better than last season And talking about beating big teams.. we did a double against chelshit 2 seasons ago..but we finished fourth..what was so great about that? at old trafford we were really unlucky to have lost because we dominated that game..its just part of football. And against barcelona u must have know how many players we had injured. Thats why i told we just need a bit of depth thats all. This team can achieve great things. People just underrate us..its frustrating that our own fellow fans dont believe in the team. No wonder some shitty toti ass comes up and says shit about us that we hate our team. Shit no. I love my team..and i will till i die.

here is a zero sum solution “Wenger Style” ,not that its going to happen anyway.
Got Chamakh for free. Then get Joe Cole for free. Swap Rosicky for Cahill and use Wilshere loan as a sweetener.
Sell Eduardo and Denilson, both for 15 million and buy Melo.
I didn’t include Keeper, cos i doubt it’s one of wenger’s priorities no matter what we think.

im happy wenger didnt listen to a lot of arsenal fans cause there would no arsenal e be any more haha we already are strong just need some adjusments like central defender and hrd midfielder and we could go let bender go no problem with tht but were fine footbaal is luck also injuesries and have to use silvestre against messi is not a shame to lose 4-1 so were be fcking killer upcoming season but not with your asrsenal

Lighten up Moad. It’s jus a hypothetical solution, as a jibe to our financial prudence in transfers. Its not as if Arsenal’s valuation of Rosicky and Cahil are same but then not every Arsenal fan is an expert but they are entitled to their opinions.
Anyhow i agree that our team is good enough to win titles without injuries. I was just saying get Cahill and Melo. Not calling for an overhaul of our team.
I don’t like bendtner or Denilson either, but i have a feeling Wenger does. So he won’t let them go in all probability. He knows better and maybe bendtner wil be massive in future. You have to admit even with his woeful first touch and an embarrassing heading for a 6’4 height, there are goals in him and he did carry us through a tough period with his goals.

without new signings, we will go no where. the likes of denilson, fabianski, eduardo, eastmond, traore and sylvester are just bunch of rubbish. for wenger, he shud go 4 sebastin frey as our keeper. we also need a right winger cos theo is a flop. if fabregas leaves, he should be replaced with gourcuff and it will be trophy all the way

Hi my dear guys & women it is hard to believe & say that a young stars are coming soon but it is not making money for club but club shining in winning the troph & make history for the players.yaa we can sign them but expreince is the best teacher for physical game in premier league. Wenge shoud watchout with the catogories he wanted to sign for next season 2010/2011.

On topic, Typical fast to sign the 16 year old we won’t probably see play and if he does play and is really good, we will sell him off. Too many youngsters, and what happens is they become restless and want to move on cause the competition in the reserves is too much. We are getting it wrong, that’s why a player like Merida left for FREE! Reason why Flamini left on a free. We should get the young players we need and concentrate on them and plan as if they will make the first team in 2 years time, not all this Nike academy we are running. And is it me, or isn’t it obvious that we need to sign on Eden Hazard by now? When are the defenders coming in? Shouldn’t we have started secrete negotiations just before the window opened? Typical of Wenger and the board to wait till the last minute nickle and dime the hell out of a deal to replace obvious. Probably waiting for contracts to run out so we don’t have to pay 2 wages. We should have signed a replacement for Silvester by now, If Campbell is the replacement.
