Arsenal sign five Brits – but not Walcott!

Posted on December 19, 2012 by admin

It is now looking more and more likely that Theo Walcott will be leaving Arsenal as the Gunners manager has made an announcement that he has persuaded FIVE you British players to sign new long term contract extensions at the Emirates, but Theo Walcott was definitely not one of them.

Wenger said: “We are delighted that these five young players have all signed new long-term contracts. The plan is to build a team around a strong basis of young players, in order to get them to develop their talent at the Club. Jack is certainly the best known, the leader of this group – but the other four players are exceptional footballers, and we’re very happy that we could conclude their new deals at the same time.

“Gibbs, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey and Wilshere represent a core of the squad and it’s an extension for a long period for all of them. I’m a strong believer in stability and I believe when you have a core of British players, it’s always easier to keep them together and that’s what we’ll try to achieve going forward.”

With just two weeks remaining before Walcott is legally allowed to discuss contracts with foreign clubs, it looks like he is going to continue the stand-off with Arsenal right down to the end of his contract, when he will then be allowed to move to any of our rivals on a free transfer.

We are all speculating but I wouldn’t be surprised if Walcott already knows where he is moving to in the summer, and he knows exactly how much he will be earning. Goodby Theo….

    played: 17
    won: 14
    drawn: 0
    lost: 3

    Arsenal played: 17

DIFFERENCE 18 points…RVP UNITED has played badly but managed to pull awawy and win those games….

    Not too bad except

Arsenal need a striker to put away those goals in the draw games

As far as Walcott, my understanding is that we are offering him 75 or 80 k/week and he wants 100k/week. Now, there are rumour that Juventus and couple other clubs would offer him 90k/week. Would he really leave us for an extra 10k/week.

Also, there is no way any other top team would play him as a regular striker. And if he goes to Chelsea, Man city or even Juventus, he will not be a regular starter. It baffles me that he would leave for an extra 10k/week to sit on the bench.

I think it’s important to understand that Arsenal is built as an attacking team. It’s certainly possible to play Walcott as a striker. He can get his chance. How bout a 4-4-2… That way Podolski also has a chance to play as a substitute striker. Cazorla, Wilshere, Arteta and Chamberlain can provide that second wave of attack and provide some excellent finishes. We are great. The players just need to remember that.

Sign up 5 players to longer contracts but the contract which we all want signed is knowhere to be seen or heard from, meaning in all likelihood that he is off. Nice bit of PR by Arsenal here, trying to soften the blow and try keep the fans from fully revolting against the club and its policy’s, but I highly doubt anyone’s gonna buy it.

This one is very controversial and I expect a load of thumbs down for it lol but have been thinking since this news of contract extension for the 5 broke. Their contracts negotiation only lasted a few weeks and all is done and dusted. Walcott? 1 year?
In my opinion, I know he is very important to us but I would stop negotiating, look for a buyer and get the most possible and reinvest that on a very good winger and then get the players we do need eg a striker and a def mid.
The reason am saying this is, it is looking like he’s playing. I think Wenger really believed that as a British player he’ll be loyal which is the only reason he stayed after the summer window. But 2 weeks to Jan and he is still not signed, he is not signing. If we not careful, he might be sold late before the windows close to avoid loosing him for nothing and no time to reinvest. So if I were Wenger, I’d start the bidding soon. Theo is good but hey, for a little bit more added to his selling price, we can get a decent winger who can score goals and be happy to play on the wing. We need a proven striker up front esp now. No player should be allowed to take adv of a messy situation and I don’t think he should be paid more than Wilshire or Corzola. Get a good and better winger from Spain/Germany for 50k a week lol

    @ Eosas
    I agree with you.
They have been negotiating with him for about a year now. That is ridiculous! I would like for us to keep him but at the same time he is holding the club ransom and nobody is bigger then the club. This is not RVP situation. RVP was one of the best strikers in the game.
Theo is a good player but he is not a great player. He is trying to dictate where he should play? Come on, who does he think he is, Im actually surprised that Wenger is putting up with that.
He also looks to me like a diva. After what the club and Wenger has done for him, it is very disloyal.
I would give him couple more weeks to either accept or reject our final offer and than look for replacement.
Let’s not forget, it’s not like Nasri, where Man City offered him pretty much double the wages we were offering. He would get about 10k/week more somewhere else.
He is gonna leave to get 10k/week more?? That is ridiculous.

@dude To you and I and anyone looking at this dispassionately the signing of Ramsey makes no sense. But if you are under the spell of the Ramsey fanatsy as some Arsenal fans apparently are, then his signing makes perfect sense. He is a fan favorite. He is loved for what he represents, not how he plays. He is thus is a big ticket draw which equals money. The fact that he can’t play at an elite level does not seem to matter to his followers. If and when the fans finally realize that he will never be what they expect and stop supporting him he will be discarded by the team. He is being used by the club administration.

Even suggesting this is heresy to Ramsey’s devout worshipers and they will despise the messenger (me, in this case) for daring to suggest such a possibility. The people I know who watch Ramsey play find it laughable that such a weak player is tolerated, but they are observing through the lens of logic and reality, not through the blurred lens of adoration and worship. To some, Ramsey is the handsome, talented beneficent young prince; and criticism of beloved royalty is rarely rational. You can be comforted that truth, fairness and reason are on your side.

I think the announcement of the contract extension for the 5 has been done cleverly to put pressure on Walcott especially within the next 2 weeks.Dont be surprised if he finally signs, because the truth of the matter is that he will get the 100k/week or more within EPL but not the CF position and may have to do with the bench as well. But within Arsenal he will most likely have 100% chance to play….and occassional in his preffered CF position as he horns his skills.
No seriously looking team would want to invest over 100k/week on an untested striker.

Let me ask you a question, if i was a brick layer and i went to my boss and said “my friends work down the road for other brick laying companies and get 1000 pound a month, but i am only getting 800 quid here. I have been with the company for 10 years getting paid less then all the other bricklayers in town. Please Boss give me a payrise”

Would you blame me if i left when the boss said no?
    YOU WOULD NOT!!

So why are we getting on walcotts case, saying he is a diva. The reality is he can earn more money elsewhere. Obviously he wants to stay at the club, but money talks.

If anything i respect him, because i haven’t heard him in the press bad mouthing the club. Infact, the only tool who bad mouthed the club has been Nasri. i think all the players that leave understand the situation, but if their demands cant be met, they go elsewhere. Simple.

Walcott is gone, lets move on.
