Arsenal still hot favourites to sign Juan Mata and Scott Dann, amongst others…
There are hundreds of Arsenal transfer rumours around in the media, but I prefer to keep an eye on the bookies to see who is being backed to join Arsenal in this transfer window than relying on half made-up transfer news in the papers.
Today I have noticed a very big move in the market for Birmingham’s Scott Dann. Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been strongly linked lately, but Liverpool were hot favourites just a couple of days ago, but there has been a rush of money on Arsenal and they have now been shortened into 1/4 favourites, with Liverpool being knocked out to 4/1.
Dann was born in Liverpool and was thought to prefer a move back to his home town, but judging by the smart money, Wenger’s promise of Champions League football seems to have swayed the big defender towards the bright lights of London. It makes sense considering he will be half the price of Gary Cahill…..
Another interesting price is that Valencia’s juan Mata is at very short odds of 4/9 to be at the Emirates next season. The gossip about him in the papers seems to have fizzled out, but bookies obviously think it is a nigh-on certainty. This will be music to Arsenal fans ears after the news that Fabregas is finally on his way to Barcelona (now priced at 1/20 by Skybet)…..
The reduction in the price of Scott Dann has seen a converse effect on Gary Cahill’s price. He is now even money favourite to move to Tottenham, with Arsenal being pushed out to 6/4, but the Bolton man now seems to be second (or third!) choice for Wenger behind Scott Dann, as the injured Christopher Samba is also very short at 4/9 to join Arsenal…
Interestingly Arsenal have been pushed out to 6/1 to sign the Londoner Scott Parker, but Gooners will be devastated to know that Joey Barton is still odds on at 5/6 to move to the Emirates. Perhaps a more popular signing will be Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega who is priced a 5/2 to join Arsenal (favourites)…..
Just to finish off, Arsenal are 16/1 (third favourites) to sign Samuel Eto’o, and Newcastle have been backed into Even Money to sign Nicklas Bendtner. Hmmmm, perhaps we should ask Inter Milan to do a swap…

Why are this posts always coming around? Barton ,dann ,parker r really required in arsenal….these r experience players..which can bring lots to arsenal…n if mata comes…it will reinforce the team..

i would think scott dann is not the very right guy we need cause this does not solve aerial balls problem but the things are we shall apreciate whatever comes than not buying at all.mata is perfect if a deal can go thru. but a question that bothers me a lot is “why do we always wait for the last minute to decide wether to sell or buy players? wenger has to really avoid this policy cause it disorganises the team even more.

With Champions League qualification being in the balance it isn’t surprising that nothing has happenned yet. Wenger has targets who will only move for CL football (Mata certainly) and he will not let Nasri or Cesc go without adequate replacements which places even more importance on the games against Udinese.

i hope those two players of Marta and Dune can do an impact on the Arsenal team given the fact that there are some other players of good quality already there like V.P, Ramsy, Wilshere and Thomas V. May be if Wenger can add on one more Striker then let him release Fab en Nasri coz they nolonger have team spirit

I hope we don’t try to replace fabregas with someone similar to him. Mata would be great, as he would probably play wide, but we have so many wingers around at the moment, I’m not convinced.
Would have loved us to get vidal, that chance has now gone, but someone similar to him would be great imo.

You’re absolutely right! The AKBs have taken over and “dislike” our comments to hide them as they are afraid of the truth. Just wait till the end of August AKBs – the truth will reveal itself in terms of who we buy, who leaves and the results on the pitch against man utd, liverpool, udinese etc.
I read that fabregas has agreed to pay £4.5 million out of his own pocket to get out of Arsenal. if this is true, it says a whole lot about the direction the club is heading.

Bookmaker’s odds are determined not by the likelihood of something happening, but by the amount of money they’ve taken on a particular bet. For example, a large amount of money gambled on Juan Mata will mean that the odds on us signing him will be short so that the bookies will have to pay out less if it happens. It doesn’t mean that we’re favourites to sign him or make it any more likely to happen.

Things are finally looking up. With Cesc, Clichy and Nasri going before the end of the window at least we will have a stable squad again.

Why must we shy away from quality? Dann is clearly not as good or as experienced as Samba and Mertesacker.. Both are captains, tall and good in the air. This is exactly what we need. Spend the money and bring in quality. We also need to bring players that have different attributes in midfield.. All our midfielders seem to be too like minded and thats why more often than not.. We have no impact from our bench.
Im glad to see that pace has been injected into the team, and this should make us dangerous on the counter.
We still need a good “no.9″ Van persie is being wasted playing that role… Just waiting for the ball.. He would be much more influential in the berkamp role and this would allow us to get at least 20 more goals per season if we bring in big strong skilled finishers (like Benzema).
We have a good team.. but good aint good enough to compete in THEE toughest league in the world.

Hey Baz it’s a lot more reliable than the votes on here. At least with the bookies the people vote with their wallet and not just a click of the mouse. You’re right though, i doubt that most of the people betting have any more information than we do. Make up your own minds or just wait and see. Me, i think he’s signed all the wingers that he’s gonna sign unfortunately. If he wants Chamberlain and Miyaichi to play he won’t bring in any more competition. If Arshavin goes it’s a different story.

Mertesacker – great at set-pieces but slow and a liability against the counter-attack. Do we want to solve one problem to introduce another or is there a tactical solution ? There’s no doubt that teams play counter-attack against Arsenal more than against any other team in the league so as good as Mertersacker is i’ve got my doubts. If the manager can get the team playing on the counter it’d work brilliantly but that’d require some positivity from the opposition and too often they’re happy to stick 10 behind the ball.

Szenczy – Got alot to learn but will be better than Lehman,
Sagna – Better than Lauren,
Samba – Like Cambell big strong quality centreback,
