Arsenal submit increased bid for Phil Jagielka
There is some interesting Arsenal transfer news around this morning, and it seems (according to the Telegraph anyway) that Arsene Wenger has decided to increase his bid for the Everton defender Phil Jagielka.
There were rumours last week that Arsenal bid £10m for the Englishman, which was dismissed out of hand by Everton, but the paper believes that Wenger will increase his bid today, and may be prepared to go as high as £15m to land his man.
David Moyes is famous for not letting any of his players leave on the cheap though and may try and hold out for £18m, but with time running out for Everton to get in their own transfer targets before the season starts means they may have to accept Wenger’s bid sooner rather than later.
It seems that the two clubs were locked in negotiations all day yesterday and there could be a decision very quickly if Jagielka is keen on joining the Gunners and David Moyes is happy with the price…

If wenger does pay around the 15 million mark why not pay that 2 million more to get Cahill??

Fifteen to eighteen million is far too much for a 28 year old. Cahill is younger and quicker and tailor made for the gunner’s.

When you look at the stats, player contribution and overall standings of both players teams then Jagielka is the better choice. Better concentration, better positioning and better passing.

To be honest I think any of the 3 we are supposed to be chasing would be a useful addition. However, just looked at last seasons stats for goals conceeded which were as follows:
Blackburn 59
Bolton 55
Everton 45
If you just look at these figures on their own they suggest that perhaps jags is the better buy.
Especially when Arsenal were on 43, 10 more than City and Chelsea and only 6 more than utd.

This is only a comment from my fifa 11 knowledge. But are Subotic and Hummels as good as they are on the game? 6.4 20yr old strong CB’s for Dortmont.

Ppl cahill has only one year left at bolton if we wait one year from now and sign him and buy phil now it’ll be perfect “2 birds with one stone”.

Jagielka fits the ticket as Wenger said proven premier league experience was required in defence. Cahill is entering the last year of his contract, I believe, so there is no way Wenger will pay even near £17 million look at the aquisition of Chamakh he waited the extra year and took him for free. It is not my opinion just the way Wenger has acted in past.
Besides Jagielka good solid purchase and he will not be pushed around. As a football fan I will be greedy and ask for another CB

Maybe Wenger is waiting for next year to sigh Cahill as he is out of con tract and we will get him for nothing and with a bit of luck Jageilka will sign this year.

This is going to be a good addition because of his experience and we could get Cahill for free next season hopefully. Lastly, I would like to know about mata’s situation. Thanks

LOL @Tommy using fifa 11 to scout for players, and @Joey getting information from Wikipedia??? Be patient Gunner fans. Prof is the second most experienced manager in the prem and I believe that short sighted critics that believe in quick fixes should not be listened to. We WILL win trophies and the disloyal players WILL be sorry. GUNNERS!!!!!

Not a bad buy… would have to say that Jagielka vs. Rooney/Suarez/Hernandez/Defoe/Aguero… is a much better match up than say Cahill/Samba vs. Rooney/Suarez/Hernandez/Defoe/Aguero… would free up Vermaelen to push over to the left when/where required… though also means that Djourou really needs to step up his game this coming season… bring in Mata and Benzema [if possible], then bring on 11/12!!

Wenger knows best,Cahill is a great talent but i think its experience that wenger is looking at but then again it is questionable on who else he could get with the options available samba, cahill, jags but i think Jags is the best option wenger is a huge fan of his he is tall, experienced and english as a tony adams kind of figure

looking forwardto this season. Gervinho impressed me on his debut, Mata looks close to signing after gooners agreed a fee of around 18 million an hopefully jagielka/cahill/samba <- either one will do they are all decent CB's.

Wenger has lost his mind. Jagielka is too short and too old. Cahill at £17 million is a much better bet. This move will solve nothing we will still be second to every ball at set pieces. What we need is someone who can dominate in the air and 5’11″ that cannot be Jagielka. Why can’t a man who is paid millions of pounds a year see something so obvious – he’s insane.

Just coz ur tall doesn’t mean ur gonna win the balls in the air. You need good anticipation, positioning and jumping ability. So you go with technique.

cahill is really great and all but jagielka has way more STRENGTH, BULLDOG POWER and EXPERIENCE! plus I would also say that jagielka is a lot more consistent in his play. I will re-predict 1st team by saying:
————szeczney————-
sagna–vermaelen–jagielka–gibbs
————–song—————
——–ramsey—–wilshere——
—-gervinho—RVP—–mata——
SUBS (not sure who will be on the bench) : arshavin, walcott, rosicky, lansbury, diaby, chamackh, vela, *biglia*, djourou, koscielny, fabiflapski, (??LB/RB??)

Jagielka would be a better buy than Cahill in that he is a more skilled defender, as is Per Mertesacker, the one we really ought to be pursuing.
Still, landing Jagielka would be quite a score. Can you imagine getting Mertesacker and Jose Enrique too? How sweet would our defense be then? Anyway, total dream atm.

My gut says:
Szczeny
Sagna Vermaelen Jagielka Enrique
Ramsey Wilshere Mata
Walcott Van Persie Arshavin
Gervinho will get starts from the bench, Fabregas just might do a 180 now that his “replacement” is at the Emirates…more like buddy
.

play a deep defence n simply swap squid 4 mertesacker + 5-10m n traore on loan 2 lyon n we get the strong tackling BULL who covers 15km of ground 4 around 10m, buy Tim Wiese 4 5-10m n give Bremen Almunia, then swap bendtner with elia(really talented n dreams of arsenal) from hamburg then swap hazard with Nasri n or fabregas can go 2 barca n nasri can get his desired contract
GK:Wiese/szczensy/mannone/fabianski,RB:sagna/eboue/jenkinson RCB:mertesacker/djorou,LCB:verma/kos,LB:cissokho/gibbs
DM/CM:wilshere/ramsey/lansbury DM/CM:song/frimpong/diaby
RW:walcott/gervinho/miyahchi ,CAM:fabregas/nasri/Ramsey/rosisky/arshavin LW:Vela/Elia/arshavin/nasri
ST/CF: RVP, Chamakh/Gervinho/Walcott/Vela
with PLENTY of rotation the squad won’t get injured so we can something

Looks like there wasn’t another bid yet nevermind £15m.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2011/07/29/everton-fc-yet-to-receive-second-bid-from-arsenal-for-phil-jagielka-100252-29141409/
He’s the best option defensively and has the PL experience that’s been linked but Wenger could go back for Cahill I feel. Those two probably fit the current system as they’re comfortable on the ball and mobile so not much change in the system is needed.

Any of Samba/Jag/Cahill is good but 2 of them, if we can spare the cash, will be fantastic. Add Mata and this season will be trophyfull. Luv from Akungba.

Anyone know much about Mertesacker. He’s an unknown quantity to me yet there’s talk of huge money for his services. The whole market has gone mad. Clubs who are crippled financially are spending like Saudi Arabian sheikh’s. Perhaps they are. Whatever happened to players actually getting paid what they are worth? Something has to be done before the whole system goes down the drain. Even the village idiot knows that were headed for a brick wall at 200 miles an hour without any brakes.

But seriously lets look at it 4rm dis angle (GUNNERZ FAN)4 d past 5 yrs wat hav we achive wit dis younglars? ‘little’ yes cahill is gud but he is not our num 1 target.let us just agree wit de fact dat ARSENAL as a team is already strong but lack experienx so we need both. I AM 99.9./’ 4 Jags cos he fits in. 2011/12 is ours go gunnerz up 9ja.:-)

honestly, i tink our problem are obvious and we are failing to see it. our problem is positioninig if u look at the goals we conceded in the emirates cup u will see my point wenger should work more on the positioning of the defence and also the midfieders.
why do song have to always join the attack wen we hav at least 5 attackers on the field he should release the ball as qiuck as possible so dat he can always shield the back four in case of a counter attack
