Arsenal to rest key players before Man United
Arsene Wenger left Arsenal fans in no doubt of how little he values the Capital One cup, despite the fact that it nearly provided the Gunners with their only silverware in the last seven years. Wenger told the AGM this week that Champions League qualification is much more important to him, and to players, than picking up a domestic cup.
It will be no surprise then to see the Frenchman rest a number of first team regulars for the trip to Reading on Tuesday. Wenger always uses the league cup to give young players some experience but it is usually a blend of youth and experience. In the last round, against Coventry, we played Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Giroud.
Wenger has stated that he will not play Wilshere against Reading, after he completed over an hour yesterday against QPR. He said that he was not sure whether to play the midfield star against Manchester United next weekend, but after Jack’s performance I would bet my house that he does.
Some more of Arsenal’s best players so far this season have started to look jaded, such as Cazorla and Podolski. Because of injuries and the need for points, Wenger has relied heavily on some players, but we need them at their best for the trip to Old Trafford.
Arteta, Cazorla and Podolski have started all the Premier and Champions League games this season and Wenger now has the chance to freshen them up. Koscielny and Santos should play as they both need the pitch time, for different reasons. Frimpong has said that he is not fully fit for the first team so another outing will do him good.

I think Carzola, Podolski and Vermalen definately need a rest. For Reading, instead of them, play Arshavin,Gervinho (but with Giroud as CF) and Koscielny. Kosxielny needs some game time.

I think Gibbs could be back for the UTD game, but I am pretty sure it is the week after that. So 2 Weeks ish I think.

Wilshere had a fabulous game and almost topped it off with a goal, he does need a rest though along with Poldi, Cazorla and Arteta, retain some first team players and start Walcott as CF to see what damage he can do, steamroller Reading and show Man U we mean business! COGY!

I agree – Capital One cup is low on the priority list. Especially if our goal is to attract quality players from Europe and elsewhere. Really, who cares if we win/lose Capital One. CL & EPL needs to remain our goal for the season. Those competitions are where the business really is for a club like us. The problem is, I don’t think we currently are a side that is up there for those competitions, but you never know – this is football … Chel$h!t won the CL last year. Who would have guessed that.

As much as it pains me to say, but i think that a win against Man utd would be one of the worst outcomes as it would take all of the pressure of the board and things will go back to normal. The fans will go back to thinking that we’re world beaters, and no one will be bought in Jan. We’ll enter april in thin shape,probably scraping 4th place in may ,when we’ll be labeled as ungrateful if we dare not appreciate and celebrate this achievement. As the summer transfer window opens , our best performers of the season will inevitably attract outside interest (like in 2011- nasir, cesc, 2012-rvp ,song). Carzola and wilshere are likely to be our best performers and the only thing we’ll be doing in the summer is preying that nobody makes a bid for them. If anyone goes,We’ll be told that they chose to left, and we’ll criticize their ethical decision making and call them greedy, while ignoring the fact the hierachy up top will get subsequent increases in remuneration directly because of the subsequent sales. Two years will pass, and the FFP will still not be strictly enforced, and/or by then the billlion air owners would have exploited the loopholes , and we’ll be told by at the AGM that we will need more time to compete. During which time, the club will start taking out dividends,offsetting the money earned from our renewed sponsorships. Anyone who thinks that Kroenke will allow the club to fully exploit its financial muscle on the pitch in 2 years (as alleged) at the expense of lower returns are forgetting that he is a businessman not a sportsmen.
As a much as a belting from the MAN Utd would hurt, it won’t be anything compared to the year’s of pain that we’ll have endure by letting things continue as they are.
I know I’ll get lots of dislikes, but enough is enough and we need something major to happen, and for the owner to realize that it is the fans who grant the club with a license to exist.GOING BY THE REACTION OF CHAIRMAN AT THE AGM I THINK THAT KROENKE AND THE BOARD NEED TO BE REMINDED OF THIS-WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED BETTER!!!

I honestly think we should change the way our team lines up, instead of using 4-2-3-1 i believe we should use 4-1-2-1-2.

Coquelin, frimpong, miquel, gnabry and eisfeld seriously need an experience, so why dont give them a chance. How about our duo ex-barca player toral and bellerin? Seeing yennaris should be nice too, dont u want to see how good our goalkeeper deadline signing, iliev anyone? Heard about this two potential yougnster, jebb and akpom, as a sub maybe? But then again, our forgotten first team, squillaci, djorou, diaby, rosicky, and chamakh, its nice to see them also, dunno any of them still laying in bed though, lets not waste any sources, lets not pay them for nothing.

I think unlike previous years where we may have had a couple of promising youngster to play, this year Francis Coquelin and Serge Gnarby are genuinely class prospects. Not since Wilshere have I looked at two of our academy players and just not had a doubt they could make it.
And some other players in the first team prob would benefit from a game off and a rest for the big united game.
P.S I forgot about Eisfeld! Also a very promising player!

its only the league cup…the reserves should play…no point risking everyone just for a league cup….Martinez, ignasi, Agtha, Gnabry, Eifeld, Toral should play….with 2-3 seniors to guide….
the first 14 first team players shouldnt be playing to avoid any risky injury….

Apart from the first 11 players…the first 3-4 subs selections are important tooo…
if the top 3-4 subs are injured there will be no ample replacement….
which is why the top 14-15 players have to skip the Reading game

Djourou and Kosielny need game time. Yennaris deserves a shot if Jenkinson is not needed vs Man Utd (though I’d playt Jenkinson vs Utd instead of Santos who in alkl honesty will be ripped apart by Valencia). Miquel to play LB as Santos need a rest after a tough week and is our only natural fit LB.

No matter what Wengers selection is for the League Cup it can not include Carzola, Vermaelen, Arteta, Wilshere or Sagna.
Much as I`m disappointed in Walcott`s attitude and demands I will concede he is my favourite to lead the line against United but, (there`s always a `but`) if it doesn`t work get him off at half time, no sentiments.
