Arsenal to sign a player soon – Koscielny or Schwarzer?
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are close to making a signing but he refuses to say who it is, as he prefers to keep it a ’secret’.
“Nothing has been done yet but I expect something will be done quite soon on that front, on the defensive front. We will sign a player soon,” Wenger said.
“But we do not want to come out with names before we announce it.
“Keep faith in what has always worked well for us and that is to keep it secret as much as we can.”
Everybody is assuming that he is talking about the Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny, but we could hardly call that one a secret could we?
According to this morning’s Daily Mail, Arsenal will complete the signing of Mark Schwarzer for £3.5m next week, and he would also be a welcome addition ‘on the defensive front’.
In fact my money is on Schwarzer, as it looks like the haggling with Lorient over Koscielny’s price is likely to go on until the last day of the window……..

AW is famous for his reputation in finding new stars. But always lost in bringing them in cause other clubs that knew what AW’s after will try to get them with a lot of money. A lot more than what Arsenal can offered. So I’m guessing AW has learned from the past. It is better to keep everything in secret. Except for Chamakh case.

also, we need cover for song (denilson not good enough for a multiple title chasing team like arsenal) and another CD as cover since we losing 4 defender this season..
sign mexes…good experienced defender….and wud also like 2 see a DM…go for raul meireles who is also been chased by manu…or miguel veloso..or even jan vertonghen can play as a CB or DM…………
if FAB stays then we shud sign another midfielder…possibly ozil if we cant get him hazard is the pick..sell diaby or denilson for extra funds…and eduardo can also be sold..

I cant believe Wenger is wasting £3.5m on another unreliable shit goalkeeper like Schwarzer. Will he sign Rob Green next so he can have the full set of the worst goalkeepers in the Premiere League. If he has to go for an old goalkeeper he should of got David James he’s free and a hell of alot better. Schwarzer is no better than Almunia or Fabianski. I hope his other signings are not going to be as bad as his goalkeeper signing, we’ll be lucky not to get religated.

Oh Please, take your beer goggles off. Schwarzer is a load of shit, he couldnt keep hold of the ball if his gloves were glued to it. Just look how bad he was at the World Cup, a 3yr old could of made those saves. Why is Wenger paying so much money on Goalkeeper so old when he could have his pick of a younger and a hell of a lot better for same money.

@ Sam- this is because schwarzer is 37 and is bound to retire in 1 or 2 season, time for Szczesny to get some experience and be the number one for Arsenal. So we needed a goalkeeper who can stay for 1 or 2 season! A good one, and in my opinion schwarzer is a very good keeper…
as for the way he played at the world cup, he’s not to be blamed! I think the Aussie’s defender were poor! If a defence is poor then u may bring the best goalkeeper in the world he will still conceed goal.. Look at Iker Casillas, one of the best, and yet he has conceded 2 goals in 3 matches. and Buffon, probably the best out there, but the first match Italy played, it was him who conceded.
@ James.. go wind ur neck in. Schwarzer makes Almunia look good, you’ll find that out when they concede more goals next season than last because of him.
@ gunner4lyf .. I know what your saying for Schwarzer to cover for 1 or 2 season till Szczesny is ready and he does look good at the moment but what if he ends up another Fabianski and he is a bit injury prone, last time he broke both his arms in training and was out for 6 months, who will be there to cover then … Fabianski? Thats why he should go for someone younger than Schwarzer so there is a back up. Whats wrong with having 2 good goalkeepers.
