Arsenal Transfer Latest – Montolivo & Vertonghen
Ricardo Montolivo and Jan Vertonghen are two players that have been linked with Arsenal over the last couple of months, and today there is good news and bad news to report about them both.
Montolivo is out of contract in the summer with Fiorentina and just two weeks ago said, “Florence has always been my foremost thought. My future however is up for discussion.”
Well according to talkSPORT this morning Montolivo has asked for more time to decide on his future after turning down a new contract, and will be allowed to leave in January if a deal cannot be struck.
It is not just Arsenal that are interested in Montolivo, and should they wish to follow up on their interest they will face stiff competition from both Milan clubs and Bayern Munich.
Jan Vertonghen was a target for Arsenal over the summer, and should still be after recent performances. The Belgian currently plays for Ajax, but has expressed an interest in moving to England. In May of this year he said, “If I could make the step (moving to England) then I would prefer to play in a footballing team, but I won’t go to a club where I am given the task to play the long ball.”
His displays this season have been attracting scouts from all over Europe, including Arsenal, but it appears as though Liverpool and Inter Milan are to battle it out to secure his services.
If we are to lure these types of players in January the current squad are going to have to pull their fingers out and make sure they are near the top four of the table, because if we are just sitting in mid-table when the transfer window re-opens we have no chance of securing their services let alone the likes of Yann M’Vila and Eden hazard.

hm..i’m bet there’s no new players coming in except some player is going out on january..but surely i’m hopefully that we could get 1 more defender..cahill, come to papa..!!

In all honesty, and it hurts to say this, who is going to want to join us? And you know what Italian players are like for moving to teams in the same league.
We are so unlucky at the moment. Feel like the world is against us, but it is only early so if we are still weak by December, that’s when we should start panicking. Look on the brightside, still got games in the champions league, carling cup and fa cup to play. Plenty of time to make up for an abysmal start to our season!

Players will still come to Arsenal. We are a big club albeit, not doing well at the moment. There are other clubs in our situation – take Inter. They have also had a shocking start to their season. (now they are inquiring about taking AW from us). But … The furtherweare down the EPL table …. The more money it will cost to secure top players. And that, is a big problem. if a player is being offered the same money to join a top table team, or a lower table team (especially when it comes to Playing in the CL), the choice is a no brainer. If Arsenal and United both approached the same player, I would bet the 9/10 times, they would choose Man U. So the equation is simple:
Top of the table – better chance of securing good players at a reasonable price
Bottom of the table – less chance to secure players at an inflated price
With this in mind, you look at player we have missed out on (Mata, Cahill, Parker …. I know we didn’t go for Parker, but I bet we will wish we had), they will seem like a bargain if we keep on this trajectory of losing to middle order teams. Something needs to be done now to sort our defensive issues. Otherwise it will be a hole with muddy, slippery Walls we will be trying to climb out of.

Patrick,whether you like it or not Arsenal in Jesus’ name will keep on going trophiless year in year out if;
1.If Professor Wenger of Economics/The Economiser remains/is still its coach.
2.If its current economical/economiser board members are not sacked and replaced by a board which is non-economical/non- economiser.
3.If it does not buy experienced elegant players during the 2012 January window who can make a team to be winning trophies and instead it continues being with its current squad which majority of its players are inexperienced youngsters who CANNOT make a team to win trophies!

We need David Dein back. We need a defensive coach (Steve Bold or Martin Keown). We need to stop bitchin. We need to get behind the team regardless of what we all think and start being the twelth man. This is the team we all love and everyone else likes to knock because we play beautiful football. I hate rumours cos it gives hope that ends in a dream land especially when associated with arsenal.Lets recounts…Cahill, Samba,Mata,Hazad,Mvilla,Scott Dan,Jagielka,Paker,Gogourf,Phil Jones….endless.Now,Vertonghen and Montolivo,Cahill and Hazad are also being mentioned.Will the miser buy them?Will he see the quality in them?Which other clubs are showing interest?Will They Match Wengers value? Some of you guys make me laugh. Here is the simple, we will go after Cahill (5-10k) which is around what Wenger wants to pay. Hazard (30k) and the choice of Arshavin or Rosicky. We will get M’Villa (25-30k) and a surprise shock in a striker that will be under the radar until Wenger pulls the trigger. He then sends Chamberlain and one of our DM out on loan. He will continue to try and sell Squillaci, Almunia and possibly Chamakh. The fact is we have a bunch of good solid role players with a few exceptions in RVP and Gervinho. We just need a few solid players and then a few attacking players with flair and we are set. All these other rumors are one of two things. Complete crap or Wenger’s way of getting the media to take the bait so they stay away from his real dealings under the table.

It is interesting to hear that Wenger is interested in a player. I think he admires those players rather than thinking of bringing them to the Emirates. How many players were we linked with in the summer and how many did we buy? Is Wenger heavy summer spending promise what we witnessed?
