Arsenal transfer rumours 09/01/11: Sol return, Cesc exit & BECKHAM!

Posted on January 09, 2011 by admin

A look through today’s two main Arsenal rumours – and they are big, big rumours. Probably rubbish though but interesting all the same and well worth a read.

The Sunday Express are running a story claiming that Sol Campbell may return to Arsenal as cover for Thomas Vermaelen and to be quite honest I think it could work out. Pardew will be happy to release him from his contract at Newcastle where he is anything but happy and there have been rumours that he is looking for another club. It is fully understandable that this rumour looks ridiculous at face value and Arsene has only EVER taken back one player and that was Sol, so could he do it again?

Sol is winding down his career and is said to want to go into coaching afterwards and what better chance than being a back-up player for Arsenal whilst also starting to coach the younger players – even if that is all of them!

El Mundo Deportivo claim that Cesc Fabregas has agreed a deal to join Barcelona at the end of the season .Surprise surprise the Catalan press are starting to speak up again as soon as the January transfer window is open. I do think Cesc is going to leave in the summer, be it on good terms with the boss after him getting permission to leave, or engineering his own exit. All this is from El Mundo is simply trouble-making and an attempt to inch Fabregas’ price down.

Rumours like this are not going to stop until Cesc is back in Spain, sadly.

The Independent are running a story claiming that if the loan deal between Beckham and Sp*rs breaks down, David Beckham will join Arsenal, but only to train. This happened a few years ago when Beckham trained with the squad at London Colney and spent time after training with the younger players giving them free-kick lessons. One of those players was Denilson.

If would be inclined to believe this for that very reason. The manager was delighted with him last time and is a very big Beckham fan generally. Even Jack Wilshere made it clear that he would love to train with Beckham. He said: “Bring Becks to Arsenal what a great example he would be for all of us!

“His professional attitude, ability and experience! I’d love to work with him!”

Unfortunately it seems 90% certain that Beckham will going down the road to White Hart Lane……..

hi, we don’t need sol campell, he has past his best long time ago, i prefer a young defender, arsenal have a young team with a lot of potential so buy a dfender @ age b/n 23-26, like boltons gary cahill. Well david beckham, he should go to spurs, but if this fails he can come to arsenal but only to train. Cesc will leave us next season if we don’t win the epl or cl. My heart tell me,If we manage to win epl he will definately stay with us, but in life people move and its going to be tough for us to win epl this season, so, if we get a good sum of money we can use it to rebuild.

  3. Mick says:

Where is the evidence that makes you ‘think’ that Fab will leave in the summer? Wenger has said he is not going anywhere so that is real evidence to think he is staying. But you choose to believe the opposite. Why? Are you discounting what Wenger says, are you insinuating that Wenger is not being truthful? What do you know that we do not know. Why do you have to propogate this rubbish coming out of the Spanish media, thus helping to add to unwarranted and unhelpful speculation. Please report on something useful, not harmful to the club.

hey guys, we need beckham to train our youngsters, we need campell to train our defenders. i can understand why wenger bought koscielny. coz he will improve like vermaelen. but squillaci, what for. we’ve already got djourou and vermaelen(injured) and song. they r fantastic. but we still need one person. vertonghen.

well, i dont think we need campbell- hes getting abit old now. we need a younger cb no more than 31 maybe? and we have quite a few right wingers like nasri, arshavin and walcott, beckham could come in handy as he’s actually very good at set peices but i dunno :-S

  9. Gary says:

Fabregas will leave because he is too good for arsenal (and that hurts to say as i’m an arsenal fan).

He is a world class player, he played at the world cup with world class players all around him. He won’t want to stay at a club where he is partnered in midfield by Denilson or Diaby, where Eboue is an important squad member, where the goal keeper has all the confidence of a walnut.

It was clear he wanted to leave last summer, however Wenger did it he agreed to stay but surely that was conditional on the team developing. They are not, players such as diaby and denilson should have been sold long ago as they are not developing into world class players. Years ago wenger would have sold them on and bought in new players to try and make that step up.

Now they get to stay in the team for 5 years without doing anything. If I was Cesc I’d be asking what is going to happen in January to convince me that I play for a club with world class ambitions. Who is coming that will help us take that step to the next level.

I’d also tell my manager that the young team stuff doesn’t wash anymore, its been a young team for 5 years, by definition they are not young, they are just not good enough.

Lets cash in on cesc, bendtner, diaby, denilson, clichy, fabianski, almunia, ashavin, eboue and rosiky.

Lets give Czechsny, Vela, Walcott, Gibbs and Wilshire the chance to lead this team forward, developing into genuine world class players because they all still have the chance to. Lets integrate them with Nasri, Vermaelen, sagna and RVP so that there is a mix of experience and genuine class with youthful talent, potential and desire, and then lets spend the 60-70m from all those players on another CB (plenty of options) and Wesley Schneider. And maybe a top quality and reliable keeper to help our young keeper develop and learn – Shay Given – very reliable over the last 10 years, would make a great role model and certainly better than Almunia and Fabianski combined

    —————Czecny——————–

    Sagna Vermaelen Mr X Gibbs
    —- Song ——-
    Wilshire – Schneider
    Walcott — Nasri — Vela
    RVP

Guys either you like it or not Fabragas is leaving during the summer transfer remember A few years ago he said the same thing for Henry,Hleb,Viera, and many other players where are they, the went on their desired destination.I have mentioned 100 times we need a world class striker such as Falcao not Chamak for example have you seen Chamak so far to realize a goal by himself or to kick the ball from the distance never never it means he is not for Arsenal.Wenger wasted money on Koscielny £10 million he worth nothing we could by Merte Sacker or Cahill or buy goal keepper like Given we can get him for £5 million .all his plans have been wrong.

  12. Luke Shephard says:

Instead of Koscielny, we should have bought Raul Abiol. Plays for Real Madrid, 189 cm tall, and is only 24! It maybe would have took £12 million, but he would have been worth it. Too late now, he is in the starting team now :/

love how all the know it all gooners simply say “like it or not cesc is leaving”
Well got news for you…like it or not cesc is staying! His only option is barca and they cannot afford him and he has 4 years left on a massive contract…he has the drive back and he is simply the man! he’ll be around at least 2 of those four years and maybe more if they trophies start by them!

For me its bentner we need to replace. I think we should use arshavin as a sub. When he start it looks like he feels he has all day to make something happen. But when he come on at th 70Th min. There is no time to waste so he try’s harder. Plus walcott should start every game. I think arshavin is much more important than bentner, TRADE HIM!!!!!

  15. same old news says:

same old arsenal fans whinge whinge whinge, lets buy buy buy,
so sad and so boreing, think your selfs lucky you not in liverpool fans shoes or evertons, no talent, no money, no prospects,no future ,shitty stadiums, struggling in league,
as for article campbell will not return he had his chance to stay and again turned it down, as for cesc fabrigas he may go in the summer he may not, i think the real worry is if nasri decides to go.
as for beckham he a great guy at the end off his career, and he better of at spudland,he won’t come arsenal because we fully loaded in midfield players.
again i believe as do everyone else that denilson on way out off club proberly in summer, good or bad i doubt wenger will sell him just yet in middle off a campaign, same goes for arshavin who i’m sad to say getting worse, can’t trap a ball, and mis kicks too often,
i agree on his day he’s brilliant but they are becoming too far apart now,and when things not going right he fades to quickly in games, iexpect him to leave in summer.
i do believe we more in need of a decent 20 goal a season striker, bendtner is so very poor, vela will never make it at arsenal, and chamakh though i believe we may see him play better next season , i still think he too slow and to slow in re acting to play around him, rvp can’t be relied upon,so i think arsenal need to strenthen the forward line in summer (if not now), as for hazard i don’t think wenger will ever want him, and i doubt if he’s as good as every one think he is,seen him twice and ain’t been over impressed yet,he good but is he premiership good enough?

  18. sam says:

if the rumours are true i am not saying that i wish it to happen. if we remove all the bad feelings towards campbell, a 6 months contract will be good for arsenal.squillaci is not a bad defender but has not settled in the premiership.mertesacker might also take time to adjust and defenders available in the premiership are expensive, even samba wouldn’t come cheap forget cahill, arsene wouldn’t even look at him with that price tag.
i am not wishing campbell to come back but if he does i wouldn’t complain coz he’s better than squillaci and will form good partnership with djourou till summer.

  20. Rob says:

Some ‘fans’ need to look at the league table, we are in a good position, we are in all competitions still unlike the manks and chelski and we have played some beautiful football and have scored plently of goals to. There are not many teams out there who have a good second string team, we have a fantastic squad of promising players who will deliver i am sure of it. Yes the leeds game was poor i was there and to see Fabregas score that last minute penalty was such a relief because we dominated that game as we did against Man City. As for the posters complaining about Chamakh, its his first season in one of the best leagues in the WORLD, he comes from a weak french league to playing against top class players but he has already scored 10 goals, what did Henry do in his first season and Bergkamp? so give him time to get into his flow. On saturday i must admit i was very frustrated with Andrei but only because i know and remember what he can do, everyone has bad patches just look at uniteds shrek, but im sure he will be back banging them in again soon, so evryone just chill and start getting behind out glorius club instead of just slagging them off every 5 minutes.

If I was Fabregas or Nasri, I would get out of London quick to some place where the team tries to improve and doesn’t waste their time and talent. Nasri could be making 125K pounds a week easy and Fab could actually be on a team that has a chance to win the Champions League.

this guys likes to take defenders on. we like to pass the ball. he likes to keep it himself and skill people up and do cool shiz.we like to pass the ball..alot. be serious im pretty sure his playing style wouldnt fit in, he hould go to like a team where your aloud individual talent to be shown other than through visio and passing accuracy.

also knowing you fans, if he gets tackled when doing any of his trickery shiz, im pretty sure youll all be on his back and wanting him to leave.no? just look at arshavin, if he went to a MAN u of real madrid im pretty sure his career woulda speculated, too bad he came here.

Ozil is getting 125K per week at Madrid, if you don’t think Nasri can get 125K a week you’re mad.

I don’t want to lose Cesc, but I feel worse for the individual than for the club. If Cesc and Nasri dedicate themselves to Arsenal only for the club to be stingy and not try their best to improve at certain positions where we obviously need upgrade, then the club is taking advantage of these players. Arsenal act as if they’re the only team that would be daring to give Nasri and Cesc a chance to play football. Arsenal get these players for relatively low wages compared to what they could be making elsewhere, and what do these players get in return? They get to play alongside the likes of Denilson, Chamakh, Bendtner, Squillaci, Rosicky, Vela

  29. H says:

@GoonerVance, You’re right re Nasri as he could get 125k a week at a top club, but is he needed or being hunted, not so sure yet, it’s much more likely to be agent talk trying to improve his contract ( and get the cut) as he has had a good season so far. No more no less.

They don’t get low wages at Arsenal, we have the 3rd highest wage bill in the premiership, I think you will find that we more than compete there.

Show us the evidence other than Man City and JT and Frank Lampard, where we don’t compete? Real don’t pay top dollar on wages, remember Claude Makele getting screwed by them.

You will also find that they come to Arsenal to improve on their existing contract at their old club and also for footballing reasons they choose to go to Arsenal. Else why would they leave their club? This means your comment “Arsenal get these players for relatively low wages compared to what they could be making elsewhere” clearly doesn’t make sense. Do you think before you write???

re Fabregas, who was he when he signed? He was a nobody at Barca, good but not good enough to break in to the 1st team and would have moved on from them a long time ago if the Gunners hadn’t signed him. Wenger takes a rough diamond and makes them sparkle.
Who was Bentdner, Denilson, Vela before they joined? They were all in the same boat. They have made their names here now and may want to move on.

All that goes to show is footballers are totally mercenary today and bite the hand that feeds them. They have no loyalty. This aspect is sad. The percentage that go on to better things after leaving arsenal can be counted on one hand. The grass seems always greener.

  31. GoonerVance says:

Football is a business…these players have lives. NO CLUB is bigger than what an individual wants out of life. Fabregas and Nasri could be legends, but sadly they are born with too much loyalty towards someone who won’t repay that loyalty by trying to put the best players around them. Hazard is out there waiting to get scooped up by Arsenal, but Wenger is too worried about hurting the feelings of mediocre players. What Wenger should be worried about is not having a winger on the team and having to start Bendtner on the Right Wing in two games where we looked incompetent in the final third.

You worry about the great players on your team not the crappy ones. Loyalty sometimes is not an admirable trait, it is a trait that will see you waste your time following someone that doesn’t have YOUR best interests at heart.

Nasri’s contract is almost up…the reason you haven’t heard speculation about suitors is because why come in for a transfer when you can have him for free. You don’t think Chelsea would pay Nasri 125K a week to bring in a young world class midfielder. You don’t think Inter or AC Milan would be interested? Juventus is desperate right now, they’d practically make Nasri a part owner.

  32. Gooner says:

Bunch of people saying that Wenger would not let Fabregas go. Wenger is probably one of the few mangers that keep the Board of Directors happy. How? Well, he brings in profit! I think Arsenal is the only “Big Club” to bring in profit. All most all the other “Big Clubs” are in BIG debt. So, if Barcelona makes a larger offer than what they have already made, which is already pretty damn large(35m), I think that Wenger would sell…I’m also sure that Wenger will make a bid dip in the transfer market once Fabregas is sold! It’s not possible to force someone to stay at a club AND expect them to perform well anyway…Its just not possible. I think its better if Fabregas leaves Arsenal.
