Arsenal transfer rumours – Brek Shea, Chamakh, Podolski and Eden Hazard
The silly season seems to have started a little earlier this year, and there are numerous Arsenal rumours going around even though there are still two months until the mid-season transfer window.
The first bit of official Arsenal transfer news is that the very promising American international Brek Shea has been booked in to train with Arsenal for month in the MLS off-season. The big (6ft 3in) FC Dallas winger has been linked to Arsenal recently, and his head coach Schellas Hyndman is expecting the time wit the Gunners to improve him as a player, but isn’t he worried that he might impress Arsene Wenger too much?
“Brek matured as a player and as a leader on the field this past season. It was a career year for him,” Hyndman said.
“He consolidated himself as one of the top players in MLS and solidified his role with the U.S. National Team. Affording Brek the opportunity to continue to work on improving his game and measure himself among the best players in the world is something we are all excited about. It’s a winning situation for Brek, FC Dallas and the U.S. team, as the extra training time will help push his game to the next level.”
Secondly Marouane Chamakh is still being linked with moves away from the Emirates. All the big French teams have been mentioned before as possible destinations, but today it is now being reported that Sevilla are keen to take him to La Liga, and Everton are asking Arsenal to let him go to Goodison Park on loan for the second half of the season. Perhaps it would be good for the Morrocan international to get some more experience in the Premier League in a different environment?
Then we have the German international Lukas Podolski who has been a reported target of Arsenal. Koln are aware of the situation but are hopeful of persuading the striker to sign a new contract before he gets his head turned by the Gunners. “I am trying to stay indifferent to rumours like this,” the Koln general manager Volker Finke said. “We all know what we are facing.
“Some time around Christmas we will be going to meet to try and thrash out the contract extension of Lukas Podolski.
“I have already spoken to his agent, Kon Schramm. We have no clear date just now. Maybe we will meet two weeks before Christmas or two weeks after Christmas. We should fix this without any pressure.” Now that is a player I would like to see at the Emirates, let’s hope that he refuses to extend at Koln….
Another player that nearly every Arsenal fan would love to see at the Emirates is the Belgian star Eden Hazard, and all the headlines are saying that Gervinho has told him to come to Arsenal, but the new Ivorian Gunner did nothing of the sort. All he said was that Hazard would be a hit wherever he goes, and even I could have told you that!
Gervinho said: “Hazard is a young player with enormous quality. He has everything it takes to triumph in England.
“Eden has learned a lot at Lille, and I believe he could succeed abroad.”
I didn’t see any mention of Arsenal in there, and I am absolutely certain that Wenger would NEVER join a bidding war for a player that may end up fetching more than €40m euros on the open market. But we can all dream I guess……

Would love to see podolski and hazard at the emirates. We should also go after gotze and sell off any deadwood

I think hazard for 40 million euros is a bit too much for an unproven player at international and european level. He is not desparately needed as well with gerv and theo on the wings we are not in bad shape we should look for another striker and maybe another midfielder if we make some sales.

I’m sure everyone would like to see hazard and podolski make the move to the emirates. I have never seen brek shea play, but from what I hear he could be quite promising.
I don’t know what to think with the chamahk situation, part of me wants to let him go to make room for other possible candidates, but I’d be lying if I said in wasn’t interested to see if he could change his tune on a 6 month loan with another premier league side, then come back a new player.
Atleast things are looking up since the dismal start to the season
. We have some fairly easy fixtures ahead, and in the form we are in I’m sure we’ll lock down some much needed points.

Go for another striker mr wenger the cost is too high for such player who is yet to prove himself at highest level. Also consilder the level of expectations from a boy of 21yrs of age that if he end up arsenal player.

Am very surprised that no one is talking about kevin de bruyne(a chelsea target).the boy is an astonishing attacking midfielder and it would be a dream if he joined arsenal.owing to the passing game,i get a feeling that gotze’s slick passing could be much more beneficial for arsenal than hazards pace(remember we have miyaichi ? ).podolski is a proven striker and going by world cup performances a quite versatile

arsenal fans seems to be getting in a frenzy when they hear the word hazard.hazard to emirates could prove to be a hazardous one.firstly, its never good for a player 2 say hes leaving in the middle of a season.secondly if you look at gotze you get the impression that hes much more disciplined and has greater commitment than hazard.and dont forget that hazard walked off the pitch angrily after being subbed in an international match and left the stadium immediately….

Buying Hazard might just get the fans excited but its not really necessary. Well, unless Wenger is planning to play Arsh & Walcott more centrally. It seems our most pressing need at the moment is a striker

Mousa sow is a name that comes to my mind should wenger deside to buy another striker. This is a drogba-like striker who has expressed his interest in playing for arsenal on countless times. The highest goal scorer in french league last season and the guy is on fire again this season. What a goal poacher.

Buy Moussa sow n andrew ayew/goetze n play RVP in the “bergkamp role” whilst playing walcott n park as second choice strikers, Give lillie chamakh plus 5m n then sell almunia, squid, djorou n rosisky n improve RVP’s contract then buy a Marquee attacker, one of goetze, ayew or hazard 2 play as LW whilst promoting Bartley n Miquel into the djorou n squillaci roles, then put santos on a diet n let’s get our spot off newcastle!!!!
ARSENAL TILL I DIE

i think hazard has become an unachievable target now, too many spotlights on him, and gaze of chelski, madrid$, and other phat spenders will double his real value, and we all know arsenal, he’s not for arsenal now, at least, at least, he wants to come himself… Goetze is a perfect target along with podolski, lets cross fingers, we really need another proven striker

If we just get Hazard, Podolski and Ganero, that should be sufficient cover and excellent options for a great side. 40m euros too much, the 20m pounds and Chamakah and Squillaci would be a fantastic offer.

For me we already enough CB=TV,PM,LK,JD & IM..with TV come back from injuries. IM show some promising. Also if there’s injured AS can be a CB. Our LB already ok with AS & KG are there.TV also can play as backup for them. But im worry about RB,BS dont hva backup & CJ still need some time to be there.so we need a new RB..May be LB from everton.

@ Mailik I agree with everything you said except putting RvP in a bergkamp role. His style is completely different to the Kamp and he is scoring goals where he is so why change his position? I would love to see Bartley and Miguel given more experience and promotion…I think Bartley has so much potential and strength. Miguel has been solid and consistent so far too. One thing is for sure, Djoure and Squillaci have to go. We need players who can stop guys like Aguero, Balotelli, Rooney, Drogba, Bale in their tracks. Santos has good anticipation, but he lacks speed and acceleration. Nothing shedding a few pounds can’t fix I agree. I like his style and I think he is an asset to Arsenal more than anything else.
AW needs to sign a new striker in Jan. We need to make sure we can score regardless of the tactics the other team is using defensively. RvP is great in semi-deadball situations. But he lacks dribbling finess going forward. We need someone like Henry who is more direct and can take them on.

Chamakh is already going to be playing at the African Cup of Nations and perhaps that will be an opportunity for him to rediscover some form. If Arsenal can bring in someone like Podolski, then sending Chamakh on loan would be a good idea.

Podolski is a class striker, he is younger than RVP and has over 90caps for germany. He’s got a bullet of a left foot. He’s much better than chamakh who has clearly shown he’s not arsenal quality. He doesn’t fill me with any confidence when he plays and needs to either go on loan or be sold. We still need m’villa in my opinion because song is good but needs competition and goetze would be a good signing too. Hazard is quality but can we really afford him, we should get TV and gervinho to have a word in his ear. I still think we need another CB because djourou and squillici are both liabilities! Miguel has potential but we need experience.

i think getting vertonghen is a very good idea he can cover LB for if Gibbs gets injured and for when Santos goes.. so basically we will never be short and plus Vermaelen can also play LB so we will have four to cover for LB position just in case of regular injuries and depth.. He can also play cdm so if we have injuries or vacancies he will get games.. he is a no nonsense defender and a leader..
now we just need to get rid of Squil who is too old to be last choice cb
if Arshavin goes and takes squil with him hazard wil be the idea replacement he can play on the wings as well as a CAM he is young and effective.. his price tag will increase over seasons so if he choose to go we can get a replacement
with that money problem..
we should get Yann M’vila yes he is a dcm but he is also a CM who can tackle and control the game makes senses to me.. we don’t really have a cm who can do that and Arteta and Rosicky will eventually leave due to age sooner than later.. Coquelin and Frimpong don’t have that Leadership quality so if we buy Yann one of them will be loaned..
Do we need Mario Gotze well to gradually replace Arteta then yes but we have Wilshere and Ramsey
we need a Striker but not just yet let see how Park does for this half of the season also we need a striker who can play on the wings..

I wanted hazard as much as every arsenal fan, I looked at the you tube clips and researched his career stats, I also read quotes from zidane (the best player along with messi and Bergkamp I have ever seen) and from this he was the player I dreamed about comming to this great club of ours, but having watched him in all his champions league games im not convinced. He has seen plenty of the ball with team mates making good runs of him but has contributed very little. I think the money it would take to bring him in would be better spent on more fire power to help van persie. We all know if van the man gets injured we are in trouble! I’m not concerned about our defense too much now that tv5 is back.

To All of you guys dreaming superstars join us in January
Of course everyone of us want to see them in Arsenal shirt but what are the probabilities that Arsenal spends more than 20 Mill in the January??
I would say close to none. I would be happy if they buy only one quality player in january.
We should have bought Hazard a year ago when we could afford him and he wanted to join us. Wenger knew pretty well that Fabregas was leaving (but wasnt sure about Nasri) so why didnt he take Hazard?
If Wilshere and Sagna become available by January, I dont see Wenger buying anybody I hope I am wrong but if you listen to the statements from board and the owner you feel that these guys are counting dollar and cents rather than success in the field
I am sure they have put one year out of Champions league into their calculation and consideration as well

Chamakh may just need time to develop – i can remember all the commentators suggesting that dzeko would not make an impact in the premier league and his lack of goals last season did make you wonder; but Mancini kept faith with his judgement and the results are there to see.

Am sure these German players are genuinely interested in joining us for several reasons not least to test themselves in what is considered to be the toughest league around. They have also trust in Wenger who will be able to ease them into the league knowing that Wenger fluently speak German.

Where on earth did you get that Hazard is a big ego / sulky boy type?
It takes a man to saty with Lille and not go for the big money at the first opportunity. If only Fabregas and Nasri had had a bit more of his character!

I think we need goetze and podolski, both german machines we huge amounts of stamina. Also dortmund don’t look to be doing to well in our group. If we beat them next game and marseille also draw or win I’m pretty sure they can’t qualify ( correct me if I’m wrong ). So that could further help us get goetze. We don’t need to splash the cash all we need to do is spend effectively.

I’d sign Jovetic, Moussa Sissoko and maybe Brek Shea.
The Magician from Montenegro Jovetic is the stand out young player in Europe for me, going forward he has everything! Two good feet, great dribbling ability, vision that only the very best have, ball control of a good and lethal finishing.
Moussa Sissoko is the new Paddy V. He pace, strength, good going forward, great defensively, good aerial threat, fantastic engine on him and will grab the odd goal, not forgetting to mention his positioning is top notch.
Brek Shea looks good from I’ve seen, but it’s only the MLS. If he looks half decent when training with us I say we take a gamble. He is tall, fast, has brilliant dribbling ability, good with both feet and looks like he can stick the ball in the back of the net.
Have a look at Jovetic and Moussa and let me know what you think.

Having watched Brek Shea more than a few times (being a stateside Gooner) for both Dallas and the US team, I can say that he would actually fit in well with Arsenal’s style of play. He’s quick and can be very creative. At times it’s hard to judge his true quality as he seems to be trying to make plays that his teammates at Dallas and the US team aren’t capable of pulling off. Players like RVP/Gervinho/Walcott would be in a position to take advantage of this, though. And he’s tall, so that would bring another dimension to Arsenal. Not that I expect Arsene to sign him, but just saying he might be a better fit for Arsenal than many non-US fans would give him credit for.

i have seen the american shea play
and soon as i saw the him play he look a leval above in the field.
big stong tall and he can shot from out side of the box(something we dont have)
he could be an intresting player if we sign him, i doubt we will sign him tho.
i expect there to be 3,4 players comming this window or the summer window.
we have a good team just one or two big players needed and we will be beak at are best and even better.

As an American who follows MLS and the USMNT very closely I can tell you Shea is probably the next star American player behind Donovan and Dempsey. He’s a very unique player…a king-sized left-footed winger with blazing pace and a tireless work rate…he makes these constant menacing runaway-freight-train-type runs off the left side that look almost…wrong for a man of his size, and he can almost literally run his defender into the ground, and he can muscle smaller outside backs off the ball like they literally aren’t there. Very interesting character and he could easily be the first American field player to break through and establish himself into one of Europe’s truly elite teams.

I think the excitement over Shea needs to be tempered a bit. He hasn’t proven himself on a stage higher than the MLS and few bright moments in International Friendly’s Lets see what he does against France. He isn’t joining the squad, he is just training with the Gunners. I would be just as excited as anyone to see a Texan playing in the Champions League someday for the Gunners, but lets let him earn it first. Getting ahead of ourselves is foolish. He does represent the first generation of youngsters who had an academy education as the critical ages of 12-14 while all the other top athletes are playing three other sports. Less than 5% of our population is passionate about this game. But the signs of progress are there. You have 60,000 in Seattle to see an MLS games on a regular basis. Trends start on the West Coast and migrate Eastward. We have to convince our 10-12 year olds that this is the best sport. Before I die, us Yanks will be filling the ranks of Europe’s top clubs.
