Arsenal transfer rumours Jan 18th – Chris Smalling, Mesut Ozil, Senderos and Szczesny
With Arsene Wenger revealing that injuries are taking their toll on his team, the papers are full of Arsenal transfer news this morning.
I have already covered the Phillipe Senderos to Celtic story earlier, but there is another couple of bits of gossip around. The newest name to be bandied around is the young Fulham defender Chris Smalling. The Daily Mirror reports that Wenger has offered £7m for the big talented defender.
He could be the long-term replacement for William Gallas and would add some height to the notoriously small Arsenal team. Whether Fulham will be willing to let him go is another matter!
Mesut Ozil is another talented player that has been linked with Arsenal for a while, and according to the People, the Werder Bremen midfielder is being considered by Wenger, but there is expected to be some competition from the European Champions, Barcelona. He would be a welcome arrival, especially if Merida decides on a move to Spain, but would Wenger pay the going price?
The last rumour is pretty boring, as it concerns Arsenal’s fourth-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, the young Pole has just returned from a loan period at Brentford today, and according to the Ealing Gazette he is going straight in to see Arsene Wenger to ask if he can go back to the Bees until the end of the season.

ozil will be good sign for arsenal… if cesc goes . i dont think that will happen.. smalling will be perfect replacement for gallas …… i hope wenger sign him as quick as possible…. we need to keep gallas and thomas rest.. so that they play well for the 3 main matches….. pls wenger sign him…..
i think arsenal will sign dzeko at last minute like arshavin did.. i think he is waiting for the right time to sign a striker…..
Szczesny may be only fourth choice at the moment but everyone who’s seen him says he has the most potential of all our keepers. Wenger himself says Szczesny’s going to be a great. I would certainly be following his progress very closely.
Pls wenger give us the best signing stop chasing kid all about.i dont know when arsenal turned into a pensioners team like u signing the frail silvtre and sol campbel when we re in need striker and defender.
AW will buy the right player when he is ready. The prof knows the Market better than any other manager out there so when he does buy someone whether it be a striker, DM or other It won’t be no mug. He done that with Arshavin last Jan and TV in the summer. People thought he was nuts then but are now waxing about what great signings these are. Patience people AW will deliver.
