Arsenal transfer rumours May 17th – Buffon, Parker, Szczesny and Fabregas
Arsenal are still being linked with every available goalkeeper in Europe and beyond, but today we have the news that Leeds are interested in signing one of ours for a change! Wojciech Szczesny had a very impressive loan period at Brentford last season, and newly promoted Leeds United are now enquiring to see if they can give him some more experience in the Championship next season.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson saw Szczesny play brilliantly when his team met Brentford earlier this season, and is hopeful that Wenger will want the young Polish international to carry on his apprenticeship by stepping up a league. The 18 year-old is expected to be first-choice at Arsenal in a few years if he carrys on his present rate of progression.
As for goalkeepers coming in, Gigi Buffon would be a very popular choice amongst the Arsenal fans. The Italy and Juventus star added fuel to the fire yesterday when he was asked if he had played his last game for his club. “I don’t know. he replied.
“This is something we don’t know and cannot say right now, so there’s no point talking about it.”
When pressed about the rumours he could move to the Premier League, he stayed cagey: “I really don’t know. That’s a discussion that has nothing to do with the problems we’ve had this year.
“I’m hurting because I never expected to reach the last game of the season with nothing to play for.”
Could the great man (and his gorgeous wife Alena Seredova) be moving to London after the World Cup?
Another popular choice to come to the Emirates is the West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, and there have been numerous positive comments about him on the Arsenal blogs. He is tough, has plenty of Premiership experience, and is quite talented as well! It wouldn’t surprise me if the rumours that Wenger was considering bringing him in were true. He could be exactly what is needed in front of the weak defence.
It seems that we can’t avoid a day without talking about Cesc Fabregas at the moment, since he put the cat amongst the pigeons last week. It seems that Joan Laporta was seen in London this weekend, and according to El Mundo Deportivo, Fabregas is due to meet Arsene Wenger for crunch talks on Tuesday. They think that this will end up by Fabregas being sold to Barcelona by the end of the week! They also quote Fabregas as saying: “I would like to go to Barcelona. Whether they want me or not is another matter.”
The Mail also has the headline “Judgement Day”, and report that the Arsenal captain will ask Wenger for a transfer in the next fortnight. Fabregas said that he wanted his future sorted before the World Cup, and it seems that he will get his wish. This seems remarkably similar to the transfer of Ronaldo to Real Madrid last summer, especially since Fabregas has stopped declaring his undying loyalty to Arsenal…..

It’s true Fab is a very talented player, but my opinion is 2 let him go at a goo price only if the money will be re-invested. Luca Mordic & Michael Arteta can fill up dat position. NO MAN IS AN ISLAND. We won matches dis season without Fab. Our squad is not bad right now only some additions needed in defense, goalkeeper & defensive midfield now dat Chamakh is in. Loan out Fabienski, Denilson, Walcott & Carlos Vela.

I don’t think Cesc leaving will hit us that hard, with the likes of Nasri/Ramsey/Diaby/Song/Denilson all in the team and fit and the likes of Lansbury and Wilshere developing very nicely we will be fine! The deal i would love to see is Caceres+Yaya+£25mill for Cesc. Add Chamakh(Free), extend Sol’s contract to one more season and a fit Djourou, Gibbs, RVP & Arshavin for a season and we will challenge. It would put a smile on my face if the 1st season Cesc left we won silverwear….FA, Premiership or even champions league??? One man does not make a team and a midfield with Song/Yaya/Nasri/Arshavin is going to be very strong + with RVP&Chamakh up front as well we will be a force!

Cesc can go if we can get Eden Hazard or Arda Turan or Gourcuff and his replacement along with current player like Ramsey and Lansbury. For me as long as there is a top quality replacement than I’m not to worry about that. Anyway with 50 mil we can maximize the cash to get Suarez or Edin Dzeko. Oo and please, sell Eduardo, it will be disappointment for him if he still stay with Van Persie, Chamakh, Bendtner, Suarez/ Dzeko in front of him. May be Arshavin can also sold to Barca and i’m sure there are a lot of players out there better and cheaper than him…

If Chelski and ManUre don’t have a Top Class keeper like Petr Cech and Van Der Sar respectively, they were not be a contender of the title. Contrast to our past five season, if we do had a class of Cech and Van Der Sar in recent years, we are surely lift four or three League Title. Fabregas is not our saviour, Top Class goalkeeper will be our saviour anymore.

I have seen better than Nasri and he only had an average season considering everyone expected him to fill in for fabregas when he was injured and let’s face it – he fell short!!

Guys dont blame Fabregas, blame Wenger, no good player would want to be wasting his career playing with unexperience players, even his always beg him to buy experience and he donesnt because he feels he is God or probably because he wants his name on Guniess book of record as the only manager that will win trophies with couple of young lads. until he is sacked nothing will change. or are you telling me that no one can replace him?? Is wenger better than Inter Coach Jose Mourinho or Bayern Munich’s Louis Van Gaal, If a big club like Arsenal could go trophless for five seasons and there is no plan about Wining all we do is keep selling then i dont think Wenger has any plan at all. fabregas will surely be missed, he’s been crucial in the many last minute wins this season. If he goes, wenger needs to replace him with another top player of near equal value. We haven’t got anyone close to the ability of fab in midfield

i partly agree with you Ben, it is demoralising to know that the team needed additions in Jan 2010 but Wenger chose not to buy or get a loanee. If you look at teams like Chelsea or Man U they have replacements for every position someone with experience but what have we got just first team no replacement. Yes we need reinforcements and if we dont then we loose our top class players who want to win trophies.I understand if Cesc wants to leave he has done his job and a good one welldone son its time for Wenger to do his job.

Will we ever have a core that will stay together longer than a season again?
The turnover the last few seasons has become ridiculous.
If Cesc goes, then probably Arshavin asks to go, too.
Something is seriously wrong here that we can’t hold onto a core group of players anymore. It can’t all be attributed to a lack of trophies, that is just a symptom of this.
Is it money? Is it Wenger? What is the problem?

The Fact is, Wenger will drive some players out. I have seen it all too many times, Henry left cause the club wasn’t matching his ambitions, Toure left cause Wenger chose Gallas over him in all areas. Gilberto had to leave cause, again, No ambition and Wenger fell out with him. Pires??? we all know, he gradually frustrates the more quality experienced players out so he can use his projects, but they amount to nothing, his Carling cup policy sucks! Fabregas stated int he begining of the season, “I WANT TO WIN TROPHIES” This season, Wenger single handedly took us out of the running for any possible trophy, Played an unexperienced team against a full squad Man City, Played inexperienced, crippled team and no plan B against Stoke City for FA cup, Did not buy a striker and a proven class goal keeper in January when we badly needed one. Forced some players to play out of position, and kept deluding himself that some players were class, he also hide behind our scoring record which turned out to be crap next to Chelsea’s overall scoring record this season. Will we surfer without Fabregas, well this season and last season proves it, we need him more than he needs us now. Question is will he believe the lies that Wenger has told, every season when he promises to “ADD” 2-3 Quality players, but signs one? I remember Van Persie stalled on his contract believing that Wenger would sign more players after Vermaelen. Fabregas wants to see who will come in after Chamakh, or else wants to be sold to a more ambitious club, being Barca. He has an opportunity to sign quality players, 1 being Eden Hazard, i bet you he won’t sign the lad. If Cesc leaves all is not lost if Wenger pulls his finger out and stop being a hard head. Take your pick of 2 options out of 6 that can add quality without missing Fabregas
1. Eden Hazard
2. Gourcuff
3. Mesut Ozil
4. Yaya Toure
5. Hamsik
6. Arda Turan
Yaya Toure in addition to any of the other 5, Toure plus money to Arsenal for Fabregas. Add Eden Hazard plus Gourcuff\Ozil
Wilshere out on loan to gain first team experience, Ramsey to be monitored and brought back slowly. Lansbury to be given a run in first team. Denilson needs to be loaned out, Diaby given on more season to be consistent. Toure played superb yesterday, If Fabregas leaves, we should get him with nice cash to sign Hazard and Gourcuff who will not allow us miss Fab4 that much. All this in addition to the plan to strengthen the back 5 (4 defenders and goal keeper) We need major overhaul, but we will not be able to clear out. A chance at winning trophy rest on the following
1. Taking Carling cup serious when we get to the finals
2. “IF” Fabregas leaves, replacing him with like player, he is good, but i don’t think he is irreplaceable. Gourcuff, Ozil, Turan or Hamsik can replace him in the Arsenal way.
3. An English defender in the first team is a MUST. Gary Cahill best bet, Upson if we can’t get Cahill.
4. Keeping Sol Campbell inthe dressing room, the man loves the club and fights hard, he will not allow the young lads to stop if he feels in control.
5. Wenger needs to stop forcing his own one view plans and change when things aren’t going as planned. He is too stubborn even in tactics.

Gourcuff is the only player who is ready and able to replace fabregas were he to leave this year. He could get similar numbers of goals and assists and could be as influential as cesc imo. We have others in the squad who could step up over the next year or 2 but it would knock us back in the meantime imo.
I really dont see cesc going now h/e. Hes always been very definite about staying for the time being, but he will probably go to barca eventually. Hes got a good head on his shoulders though, and realises he has plenty of time for that in the future.

In my opinion Fabregas is 1 of the best CM in the world along with Xavi and Iniesta and is def the best in the PL. We will REALLY miss him but he grew up as a Barca fan and im sure its his dream to play for them so give him his chance and wish him all the best and collect no less than 50 million. Get Yaya Toure and Gourcuff. Thats only if he does want to leave. Dont be hard on him if he does surely we fans can understand why he wants to go. If we dont hold him back and it doesnt work out at Barca who no’s we could get him back some day!!Play 4-4-2 next season and swap Sagna for Buffon buy Micah Richards on the cheap as he can play RB or CB and if not him get Zapata. Also Simon Kjaer from Palermo is a solid CB and we could get him cheap enough or if not Mexes wants to leave Roma or Subotic looks to be briiliant but might be too dear for Arsenes liken and if we have any more in the kitty buy a winger.

I am really hurt that fabregas is being so selfish. But if a player wants to leave then we should let him ago. We all know he is a world class midfielder but gourkuff (apology for the spelling) would sit in well with chamakh.
Arsenal could use a 4-4-1-1 where chamakh plays behind van persie. The profit from fab could go towards a world class keeper like buffon.
Also remember rooney stepped up in absence of ronaldo. Nasri could give his best shot. Although i believe ramsey would be the better long term repacements.
Yes im a bit frustrated with wenger but we arent real madrid or man city financially and im glad he is managing us.
Lets hope for the best and hope the drought is over and we win the title.

Fabs isn’t the best cm in the PL not by a long way that 1 goes to essien we can get a great deal out of fabs….. He is only a 30 mil player so 60 mil is a great deal just buy ozil or gourcuff 4 playmaker at half the price for all the quality then another 30 mil for defense
