Arsenal transfer rumours May 7th – Cahill, Diakhate, Hangeland and Gallas
It seems to be a pretty quiet day for Arsenal transfer news, and there is little to really whet the appetite and get the blood racing. For starters it now seems to be certain that William Gallas is on his way out, and it seems that Paris St Germain are favourites over Roma to give him the two-year contract that he wants. He always said that he wanted to end his career back in France so that’s no great surprise.
So who is going to replace him? Pape Diakhate, the Senegalese defender that was, according to the Mirror yesterday, a certain arrival at the Emirates this summer, is definitely not going to be staying at St. Etienne anyway. Their loan agreement with Dynamo Kiev gave the Ligue 1 side to retain his services for 8m euros if they wanted, but it has been reported by L’Equipe that they have decided not to take up that option. The question arises that if St. Etienne don’t think he’s worth that price, why should Wenger be willing to buy him?
The Fulham defender Brede Hangeland has long been touted as the obvious replacement for Gallas when he leaves, but Wenger has admitted again that he was interested in the Danish centre-back, but has never made an offer. “I find he is a good player but we have never been in for him,” Wenger said today. I’m not sure why Arsenal are continually linked with him because he has always said that he was glad he signed a new contract at Fulham last summer…
Another Premier League player that is highly rated to replace Gallas is the Bolton defender Gary Cahill, and both him and his manager, Owen Coyle, said last week that any good offer from a Big Four team was unlikely to be refused, but today Coyle seemed to backtrack by saying that he was looking to strengthen the team, but did not need to sell Cahill first to finance his deals.
“I think it is fair to say we will look to add a few players to the existing squad because we want to take the club forward,” Coyle said. “That takes a number of things to come to fruition: one, they want to join; two, the finances are in place; and three, they need to be available.
“We have targets in mind and we have to do our best to really entice them to the club. But I don’t need to sell anyone.”
At least all today’s talk is actually about defenders, and it is now certain that Wenger will be buying a “top-class” centre-back. Does Cahill fit that bill?

Hangeland is from norway
Cahill would do. He’d certainly add a bit of passion and steel to the team.
why would u buy hangeland his 28 turning 29 next month abit old if u ask me and his been very poor this season. Cahill im unsure i know his a good centre back but i’d love to see Simon Kjaer join us.
What about a goalkeeper?????
St. Ettiene may not be able to afford the 8m Euros, whether they think Diakhate is worth it or not.
Yes it could be on as Bolton want Jack Wiltshire on another years loan so they can have him for another year and get him ready and we will buy Cahill

it will be good if we can get Cahill but i prefer Subotic and Kjaer as they are better in air.We also need Steven Island in our midfield.
Arsenal needs a total addition to the present young squard. If not what happened to the great liverpool may turn to us,before our eyes will be widely open.
Yo right! Hang.. is from norway!
Kjaer is good, BUT Cahill will add what Arsenal has been missing THE ENGLISH GRIT OF DEFENCE. The years we won, we had English defenders and Goalkeepers, IT’S time to get some English defenders. We used to have Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Steve Bould, Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, all these defenders had a winning way about them, We had goal keeper David Seaman, we had forwards like Ian Wright, David Platt, Ray Palour. Arsene needs to look closely at the EPL and Championship and dig some of these gems. To be honest, Walcott isn’t going to cut it big time, all the hype has affected his development. I want to see Joe Hart, Gary Cahill in an Arsenal shirt. Then add Kjaer so we can rotate our defenders. We would need Zapata for his versatility and Eden Hazard for his magic feet. After Gallas, Senderos, Silvestre and maybe Traore leaves, we can add Cahill, Kjaer and Zapata, bring Let Szeczsnt go on a loan, Mannone as backup to Hart. I have a feeling Mannone might actually become really good. Eden Hazard will add an element we usually don’t have inthe squad, drawing 2-3 defenders, something Messi and Ronaldo do for their clubs. But alas, Wenger will dissapoint and only add the bare minimum of 2, maybe 3.
why are people so obsessed by this “english” grit? England has shown year after year after year they posess no such thing as grit on the international stage. Look at your national team. What grit is there to speak of there? did that grit ever help you to win??? Arsenal wants playing cbs not just big oafs!
And English players, judging by your national team is not “grit” at all. Execpt from Rooney who are stars??? None!
Being English is not in itself a quality we need to be looking for(only other English people would consider it to be a quality at all). The players Dale mentions were great at their time. But they played in a league where the best in the world were scattered across La Liga and Serie A as well as the English top division. Now we need to look for real quality whereever it may originate from. Couldn’t imagine any English born players getting into a world 11 (or even a european 11 for that matter). Wayne Rooney would be the closest thing, after him, it gets pretty ordinary. Thankfully Arsene has his net cast further than the shores of England to find real talent.
All we need is a powerhouse CB someone with real fight and determination someone to lead by example and above all else loyalty and knows how 2 keep his mouth shut. Verm has most of these qualities and im sure will become a great leader for us, but i feel these are the qualitys Wenger must find regardless of nationality.

what could be best for us next season
hart, sagna, clichy, Cahill, vermalaen, song, fabregas, nasri, arshavin, chamackh, v. persie. subs, bendtner, manonne, djorou, wacolt, gibbs, eboue, ramsey, hangeland, denilson.
chamackh is only summer signing
with ramsey and djorou the other 2 coming back like new signings
All i know is dat wenger is a gambler.up gooners
8 inch knob; datz wat we’ve always complained of, the team u gave has no debt, how about adding shaun wright who will give a better cross, score wen in d box and also xperienced. arsenal, we dont just need players, we need xperienced players, who can last all thru the season
i actually think we don’t need to buy a keeper at least not one for a long term a guy like brad friedel or david james would be ideal to allow sceny or mannone to take over
we must buy
both hazard and melo
cahill and Kjaer
sell fabiansky to manu or chelsea, almunia, sagna, denilson, vela not sure, walcott for free no one will buy him anyway,
arshavin for his loud mouth in exchange of messi, djourou b coz he always get injured, eduardo b coz we can still get a good price nxt season he will be worthless,
Let me clarify my opinion:
The team is short of 3, maybe 4 players.
1.) A left sided centre back to challenge Vermaelen
2.) A reliable back-up for Song because no-one other than maybe Vermaelen and Emmanuel Frimpong would have the nous to play such a position. We are stretched severely with Song missing from the DM position.
3.) Another striker. Van P can’t last a season and it would be too much to ask Bendtner to carry the burden should the inevitable happen.
4.) A pacy, goal scoring wing forward. I do not agree with Wenger playing Nasri and Rosicky as wing forwards. They are both suited to the attacking midfield position.
If Gallas does indeed leave. Then it is a big headache for Wenger. Having Gallas around for two years with Campbell able to cover is the perfect environment for Djourou and Bartley to make inroads into the first team.
Quality investments now to address these issues may mean we won’t have to buy again for a long time.
Any deal seeing Wilshere remain at the Reebok will def involve an agreed fee for Cahill to Arsenal. Arsene is now clown. That is one of the main reasons to hold for Bolton to come in for Wilshere when Burnley looked like the only serious premiership offer on the table.
We definately need to strenghten our core of the team. We need at least one new goalkeeper and for me Joe Hart seems the best option if not him Rob Green would be excellent. Either of them two or both would be much needed additions to the squad. We need a new centre back and for me, Cahill would be my first choice. Get in some English players who know the game and understand how much games mean to the club. Get some English determination in to the squad which we have lacked in recent years where Man United and Chelsea have had. I would like to see us buy a defensive midfielder who can partner Song maybe Lassana Diarra, Felipe Melo or Yaya Toure this would strengthen our midfield. Chamakh has been confirmed which is an absolute bargain! No matter what he can not fail as we have not spent any money on him. I wouldnt mind seeing Arshavin leave for Barcelona as he isnt 100% happy at Arsenal. But we would have to make sure we get the best of the deal, maybe have Bojan or Yaya Toure be part of the deal. I would like to see them get a wide player in and I said I would like to see Shaun Wright Phillips long before these rumours about it came about. He has shown what he can do and a new start at a better club can only improve his game. Get rid of the dead wood at the club i.e Almunia, Fabianski, Senderos, Merida, Rosicky, Eduardo. And then hope our key players can stay fit throughout the whole season i.e Van Persie, Fabregas, Ramsey, Song, Vermaelen and all the others. That would leave us with the team :
Joe Hart / Rob Green / Vito Mannonne
Eboue / Sagna
Clichy / Gibbs / Traore
Vermaelen/ Cahill / Gallas / Campbell / Djourou
Song / Yaya Toure or Lassana Diara / Ramsey
Walcott / Shaun Wright Phillips / Nasri / Eboue /
Fabregas
Van Persie / Chamakh / Bojan / Bendtner
Sad to lose Gallas. He just needs a couple of good players around him.
Wenger always upsets a few players
Arseal have so much money. They can spend if they want. The board love Wenger because he doesn’t spend.
If for once Wenger does decide to buy he needs 6 players:
Goalkeepeer: Hart
Defender: Hangeland and Cahill
Midfeild: SWP and Melo
Striker: Chamakk
Arsenal would be lifting a trophy next season if Wenger invested in such experianced, willing and quality players.
Arsenal need Steven Pienaar and a big African Striker
Arsenal will definitely buy Joe Hart. City of course would not want to part with their (current) first choice who is also the country’s top young keeper but… money talks. When the Arabs get a sniff of Arsenal’s fifty quid they will be biting our hands off…
Of course Lassana Diara is another shoe in. Arsene will be happy to pay Real Madrid £30m to buy back the flakey midfielder who publicly gave him the finger a year and a half ago…
Melo, that’s a cert too. Arsene will be happy to repay Juve every penny of the £18m they squandered on him in order to outbid… er, Arsenal… oh yes, especially after that wonder season he’s had…
speaking about flakey, Gallas is worth every penny of (contd. on p 93)
