Arsenal turn to Chelsea star to shore up defence
After the public argument between Arsenal and Bolton over Gary Cahill this week, it is looking unlikely that the two clubs will come to an agreement over the big England defender, so it seems that Arsene Wenger has switched his attention to the Chelsea and Brazil defender Alex.
It is being reported in the Metro that Alex is now surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, even more so now that Chelsea have got Gregory Van Der Wiel arriving in the next few days.
Alex is extremely talented and solid at the back, although he has been rather injury prone in the last couple of seasons so could be available for as little as 5m Pounds, and would certainly bring the strength and experience that Arsenal need in their back line.
Juventus have been trying to cut a deal with Chelsea for him, but due to lack of funds they are hoping for a one-year loan. If Wenger can go in with a straight cash offer they would have every chance of succeeding, but that would depend on whether Roman Abramovich would be willing to help strengthen a direct rival for the Premiership title.
And how could any Arsenal fan forget the blistering 200mph free-kick goal that Alex scored against the Gunners last season?

I think the Cahill deal is still on. Bolton manager/owner are just making a big deal out of it to drum up the price. Wenger normally bids low at first to test the waters, and I reckon he will be prepared to return to Bolton with a bid worth around 13-15m.
As for Alex, I highly doubt Chelsea would sell him to Arsenal (although they have sold us Gallas before, so i could be wrong)

What is the problem with paying the price for once?
Alex is better than no transfer but i still prefer cahill.
I believe juventus will offer more thsn 60,000 a week, becauae they dont have a board full of d&cksh!ts going for the lowest cost they can get!
It is true that you gotta replace cheap things more often.

I think verminator and Alex at the back would be a good back line. Then in Jan go back to Cahill and get him to sign a pre contract which he is allowed to do as he only has 6 months of his Bolton contract left. Get him for free. As long as money bags don’t nab him and offer him 200,000 a week!

get cahill mr.wenger dont let your pride and ego make u lose on such a player,hes 25 has epl exp,highly rated,tall,at 25 is ready 2 play at his peak.at dis stage of time,u rarely see clubs offering such a player 4 sale.even if hes having 1year remaining,y i wenger concerned abt dat.more than bolton selling him,we need him more.jus pay 13-13.5mill and bring him 2 d emirates……..asap

I anything over 10 mil for cahill is not worth it. especially shince we can get him for free next season.

Alex is definitely a great and experienced defender. I just wonder if his commitment to the team would be as strong as Cahills. Because for Cahill, Arsenal would be a step up from bolton; a big club to become a legend at. For Alex, he would just be moving from one big club, to another; and might have feelings of abandonment or feel disheartened about chelsea not having a need for him in their squad. Plus he’s 29…I don’t know…I’m just speculating. I suppose as a temporary solution, Alex could be an amazing asset.

I suspect someone from Arsenal, in an effort to put Bolton in their place, mused out loud in ear shot of a journo “hey isnt that lad Alex from the Chavs looking for a game this year…you know the one that scored with that thunderbolt free kick?”
When Coyle put up the sign “Centre Half for sale to highest bidder” sign and looked around at the crowd the only one there was Arsene with tuppence happeney!!!! Cahill at 12M by monday.

Gunners Real, 6years troupyless does not make i, drop arsenal. Am arsenal fan forever, the two problem we have at arsenal is Board and Arsene. The board dont want to release enouph money for arsene, and arsene himself dont want to buy a big player. But the Alex isue i we say: Have bread is better tha none let accept Alex. Arsenal for life.

alex would be a great signing but we also need experience in the midfield to deal with the loss of Fab, if the kaka rumors are true, he would be a stellar signing, although i doubt wilshere would be too pleased…
