Arsenal v AC Milan highlights – New boys impress Wenger in 1-1 draw

Posted on August 01, 2010 by admin

Arsene Wenger has only made two signings so far this summer, and both Laurent Koscielny and Marouane Chamakh made their Arsenal home debuts at the Emirates yesterday. Chamakh had a nicely taken goal to mark his entry, and Koscielny did enough to convinve Wenger that he had made the right decisions.

“Chamakh had a good first game.” said Wenger. “He had a good presence and intelligence and I believe him and Koscielny did well.”

“We wanted a player up front who could play for the team, works hard and can play in different combinations. At the back we were looking for somebody who is calm, can play out from the back and read the game well. Of course it’s only one game but their attitude in training is very good and they can only improve.”

Arsenal played a strong team, and they were in control for most of the game, and Wenger was satisfied with the overall performance. “Completely” he said. “It was a good test for us. We came back from a hard-working [training] camp and you could see some legs were not completely refreshed and recovered. But what was good is that it was a good test for the players we’ve brought in and the young players and overall for the team. We struggled a bit in the last 20 minutes because we shuffled the team around a little bit, but overall for 70 minutes we looked solid defensively and dangerous going forward.”

Enjoy some fancy footwork from Chamakh and Vela amongst others!

why is fabianski still at arsenal!!!!!!!

With a little more composure it could have been 3-1 to us, I believe, IMHO, we made 6 signings this season( Wilshere, Frimpong, Nordveit, JET included).Anyone who thinks that these kids are only Carling cup material would be pleasantly taken by surprise.
I think that Arsene should use these kids against the so called smaller teams to keep the big guns fresh and fairly injury free all through the season for the important games,I am convinced these kids would do the necessary. Its exciting to think that we are going to have a bigger and stronger squad this time around.
Bendy would have been scared like hell having personally seen chamakh perform a blinder.
one more CB, even if we don’t buy a GK – because Fabianski is a better keeper than what we all think he is?, Most of you may not agree but thats your problem ) – would be enough I think to win the title.

I too am quite satisfied, like wenger, about yesterday’s performance. I think it’s quite convincing. Chamakh looked great and I think Koscielny did VERY well during the first 20-30 mins of the game. Vermaelen is also terrific, he almost scored the first goal, and he looked so fierce on the field.

The big dilemma Wenger must be having is the level of any potential new signing at CH. If he goes for an established top CH that signing would expect to start alongside TV. I just cannot see Wenger going for that type of player when he had 2 (Gallas & Campbell) that he could have kept for nothing, simply by offering slightly better deals than he did. I believe he will go for either a versatile more experienced player, that could cover more than one position, or another player in the mould of Koscielny/Vermaelen.

  5. Stefan says:

Really pleased with this match, chamakh and koscielny were the two best players on the pitch! Fabianski had a brilliant game and he actually looked confident in goal! Real shame we didnt win since randall and rosicky had the chances.

  6. brother john says:

like you guys i was very happy for what i saw yesterday on the pitch against the ac milan (well done chamackh /kosn/ verme/arsh and the rest of the team).
but overall this is only a pre season game so we need to be very carefull and not to be too excited. i do think we need another big CH (per mertesaker) and we will look pretty good.i really like fanbianski as well but another big keeper will always be a good option.
after that this arsenal team will compete with any team in the premiership and europe.

  7. Jay says:

i watched the first half online and i’m impressed so far they played good
