Arsenal v Dortmund Preview – A win is on the cards!

Posted on November 23, 2011 by admin

Later tonight, Arsenal host Borussia Dortmund in a crucial game for both sides and I have recently been told off for not having a matchday thread lately, so here it is!

Arsene Wenger’s team are in a rich vein of form both domestically and in Europe. The weekend’s victory over the Swans Canaries (I knew it was a bird!) made it five league wins in a row and it’s been twelve games since we lost at home in Europe. Dortmund on the other hand, are on quite a run themselves. They will be flying high after that win against Bayern and Wenger himself has admitted that it will be a much tougher game this time around.

As for the team news, Wenger has already confirmed that Van Persie will be playing tonight. Abou Diaby is available for selection (as of now) but I really don’t see him making his return in a crucial CL game. Tomas Rosicky will not be available because of a thigh strain. It’s a pity really, I was really looking forward to watch the ‘Little Mozart’ play against his former club. I think it will be pretty much the same side that faced Swansea over the weekend.

As for Dortmund, reported Arsenal target Neven Subotic remains sidelined with a facial fracture. Mats Hummels and Lars Bender have both caught colds but are expected to play.

We can expect to see a very opening and entertaining game with both teams pushing for goals. Robin van Persie, as always, holds the key for Arsenal and you can expect Mario Gotze to pull the strings for Dortmund. A draw will virtually assure the Gunners of a place in the last 16 but we need a win to make sure we finish on top of the group. Trust me, the last thing we want is to be drawn with someone like Real or Barca in the next round.

Score prediction? I’m going for a 2-1 Arsenal victory. Expect RvP to score another brace. I’d love to say 2-0 but I really don’t see us keeping a clean sheet. Can’t wait for the action to begin.

**Van Persie’s first 100 goals for Arsenal – 10 goals per minute! – Brilliant!**

I’m more confident on the attacking front. I think we will real get at them tonight. I can see us scoring 3 or 4 tonight. I can also see them scoring though, they have some serious attacking threat in their team.
    Im going 3-1.

  11. Charlie says:

That point about Anelka’s an interesting one. He’s definitely a reformed character and Arsene still rates him as one of his best ever signings. Could be the game of the season, don’t underestimate them because they beat Bayern at the weekend and are German champions but i can’t see our boys losing at the Emirates to them right now. I hope i’m right.

  13. The Arsenal says:

i really think the powerful attack can score a minimum of 3 tonight, maybe a quick play from dortmund and a defensive error with cost us a goal,

    so, 3-1 i’d say

    @bob

I actually wudnt mind seeing anelka in arsenal colours again but realisticly, I can’t see chelsea selling him to us for less than £15 and at his age it just wudnt be economicaly viable.

    Win for the lads 2nyt!

If Dortmund scores first, the gunners will work their socks off and score as well, however, I expect a narrow 1-0 win for Arsenal.

i think it will be 2-1 or 3-1 arsenal. hopefully. if we match marseilles result(draw or win)we should be able top the group. i think he shouldnt play diaby until late 2nd half fulham or carling cup game against city.
