Arsenal Visit The Seaside In Search For Defender
Arsenal were chasing central defenders over the summer, and still are, as they look to improve on their poor defensive record. Their latest target is believed to be Lewis Dunk of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Dunk has been in impressive form this season and has been an ever present in the league for Brighton. His form has alerted Arsenal who sent a scout to watch him when Brighton entertained Liverpool in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, but Dunk was ‘rested’ and was on the bench, though he was recalled to the starting line-up for last nights game against Leeds.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet is aware that the Premier Leagues top clubs are monitoring Dunk and in a interview with BBC Sussex last week said, “Sometimes you cannot keep players forever. They’ll have to pay. I’m not bothered. Everybody’s got a price. Dunky has got his price because of the way he plays. If he goes to play in the Premier League, I can’t control that. I can control him while he’s here, and make sure he does his basics.”
Dunk, 19, has certainly taken his chance this season, and it appears as though Brighton would be open to offers. If Arsenal are to buy a defender when the transfer window opens they need one with Premier League experience, but Dunk is certainly one to keep an eye on.
