Arsenal WILL beat Swansea says Vermaelen
The Arsenal players are understandably disappointed with the result against Manchester City yesterday, and none more so than our Belgian captain Thomas Vermaelen. The 27-year old knows that they should have defended better and they will need to start the game against Swansea much better on Wednesday to avoid a repeat of that disappointment, but he is confident that the Gunners will triumph.
“There are a lot of big, big fixtures coming up against good teams, big games.
“We wanted to have a good start, and that is why it is more disappointing that we could not get a good result.
“But against Swansea, I am confident the group will respond on this defeat, and I’m confident that we can get a result on Wednesday.”
Vermaelen will take a lot of positives from the way that Arsenal came back in to the game against City, and the way that the home crowd responded to their efforts. The players will focus on that before the FA cup game, and if they carry on in that manner, then we should be in to the next round.
“That can give us a massive boost, that they’re behind us, and they did that through the whole game. It was difficult for us, because we had 10 men, and for them as well, but they supported us through the whole game.”
So far this season, Arsenal have bounced back well from poor performances and bad results, which bodes well for Wednesday. The team owes the fans and they are determined to give us something to cheer about against Swansea.

ummm no we wont beat swansea and we will finish the league in 6th if we buy no one

Don’t believe the ‘arsenal back in for Zaha’ rumours going about on the internet.
The daily express has a story that man utd have basically sealed that deal, and guess who one of their columnists is? Ian Holloway- the Crystal Palace manager. (Zaha’s manager for those that don’t know).
He should know what’s really going on.

I was at the game on sunday, and I disagree with people saying we played well and tried hard. It was such a disappointment to see our players faces of confusion many times during the game. We didn’t know how to cope with, lets face it, a weakend city side. I also include TV5 in that statement. Will we beat Swansea? I really don’t know anymore.
Now my season ticket works out at just under £70 per match. this include the 7 credits for ECL games and FA cup game. should we not qualify for the ECL this year, do we get a discount on our renewal???? does anybody know the answer???

No we can’t beat Swansea with Forwards we have. Did you see Walcott last nite???? That guy is not a CF! Why does he dictate rules to AW. If tomorrow gibbs going to come out and say ” I want to play GK or outherwise I leave” does it mean we have to change averything just to make a guy GK if he is not capable of doing that? Nonsense. I don’t care what Walcott wants, if he doesn’t want to be a team player let him go, because of him we can not sign up another striker, cause Wenger uses Walcott as an excuse!

to Kimbono,
are you serious??? Because somebody wished Arsenal to loose that’s why they lost???? What about they came to this game not prepared, the only 2 players that really wanted to win were Wilshere and Schzesny(GK) the rest came just for fun, what about coach subbing wrong people at the wrong time? I think it is not fans that caused AFC to loose, its coach and co. let us loose!

Put a shit Side out against Swansea ….. Or Give some fringe players a chance (Eisfield, meade, gnarby etc) It can’t do any worse than our league team!
If we beat them it’s a bonus… But realistically the further we go in the FA cup is only going to deplete our already knackered squad! AW needs to buy at least 5, yes 5 players in January to sustain a top 4 challenge and a run in the FA CUP ! Let’s face it, we are running on empty now and by the time we meet Bayern in mid Feb we could have a few key injuries..
AW seems reluctant to get ANY reinforcements in (even though we are renowned for getting crucial injuries every year at this time) so we should use the fringe players and give the likes of Cazorla & Wilshere a rest and then take it from there!!
The transfer of THEO is getting beyond farcical.. It’s a smoke screen to cover up the fact we haven’t bought anyone as yet! It’s a joke that everyone and its not just a plea from the part time supporters or those that have only been with arsenal for 5 or so years, its a genuine concern from all fans that have seen this great club surrender and suffer when we lose our best players and not replace them with ‘LIKE’ for ‘LIKE’!!!!!!!!!

Get behind the team.
I’m peed off with Wenger and the board at the moment.
Pretty much everyone is.
But this is Arsenal. I want us to win this game badly.
Deep down I’m expecting the worst.
I’m also expecting no marquee signing this window and a 6th place finish with no trophy.
I’m also expecting us to get humiliated against Bayern.
I’m a realist but I still want us to win every game.
You are not a fan if you ever want us to lose. End of story.
And yes…Wenger out if he doesn’t buy anyone of note (not some average player) and all of the above happens.
We have lost too many world class players and not replaced them properly.
Cesc, RVP, Nasri have all left recently and we get Arteta, Gervinho and Giroud to replace them. Arteta and Giroud are ok…but not in the same class.
WE NEED A MARQUEE SIGNING! A STATEMENT OF INTENT.
AND WE NEED IT NOW!!!!

I’M FED UP OF IT. It’s coming up to eight years now, yes EIGHT YEARS since we last won a trophy and for a so called “BIG CLUB” like Arsenal that is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. SHAMEFUL in fact.

On the subject of Vermaelen, I think we need a good captain. He always has been one of my favorite players at the club but is he captain material? Not in my opinion. We lack leadership every game and the role of captancy seems to have distracted him from his performances of late. When I look at the Arsenal of old (Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Martin Keown) I realize how much we could do with a real powerful leader in the dressing room.

I honestly wouldnt bet on it. am expecting more power pace and precision from our players all the same, though that shouldnt be too hard.
On the Zaha speculation.
I honestly believe that if we are going to get back some of that free flowing majestic football we were so privilaged seeing, we must buy “foreign players”. If im being honest here id have to say that the only English players who could play within a top Spanish side without looking stop start are Rooney and Wilshere. I always want Wenger to get the ones he goes after but the more British we keep getting will also mean the less fluid our play is, when compared with our football.

And on a serious note..as a fan/supporter u support the team tru thick n thin, yes….but the thingz goin on at the club right now r a special set of circumstances dat require us 2 boycott everythin, mainly games..now while to the simple minded dat might seem like betrayin the team or the simple fact is right now, wenger is not doin any favours for the 12-13 decent players we do have, by not adding dat last extra bit of quality dat will give them dat push 2 make em geniue world beaters, now wat we wana/need 2 do is force the manager/club hand in2 getting that extra quality…if we say by(60k)turning up week in week out “its ok” and “good job”..then there is no way in gods green earth ur gona get greedy men wid no intrest in arsenal FC 2 spend money they don’t want to,so even tho on the face of it,it might seem harsh or disloyal, the reality is those who boycott r protectin the long term intrests n progression of the club,if that’s 2 hard or difficult to understand, then I feel sorry 4 whoever can’t get it,cos it simply means uv lived a shelterd life n are so far detached from reality dat its inhibited ur ability 2 process day 2 day issues in a rational way,its arsenal FC,not wenger or kronke FC

Why in some pos’s do we need two players to do the job of one, Diabys not a holding player and is only good when he has someone like Song Arteta beside him, even Artetas not at his best unless he has someone with power and pace next to him, Walcotts not a lone forward and could only be at his best with someone next to him who can win headers play passes etc. Liv used to be so bad upfront coz they used a little and large duo, for us to be wasting an extra man to get the best out of someone is just detrimental. Some want us to play four four two so Walcott will have someone doing the jobs he cant, thats just wrong, what we need is a top player similar to one of the many top players we had throughout the years.

Vermaelen was shouting a lot at Wilshere during the Man City game. Telling him off and telling him not to get another booking. It was nice to see him actually captaining the side at last. As for Jack, he was everywhere and the rest of the team didn’t seem able to keep up with him. We lost against Man City because Wenger had Giroud on the Bench, our most likely player to score. Cazorla had a terrible game. Walcott was shrugged of the ball instantly time and again. He is not strong enough in a striker role and will continue to score 1 goal per 4 games as striker instead of 1 goal per game as winger with assists too.

You say you must call a spade a spade and to do otherwise is “ALWAYS” counter productive.
But you go on to say you run the risk of people finding out your stupid, which you never want people to find out.
Do you see how you went wrong?
If people are calling a spade a spade well then you cant hide the fact of stupidity, a spade is a spade.
And you say seven years of same old same old. I do believe that winning is everything but you’re blatantly omitting the fact that we have had a champions league final, we have been pipped to the PL title twice and we have had a CC final whilst also playing football of the highest order.
Winning is everything but you must acknowledge that there has been a very fine line on many occasion, the reason i bring it up is for the way you speak with your love of phrases your dislike of Wenger maybe clouding your judgement and for your thougths that people who arent of your opinion are feeble minded. I have read allot more reasoned opinion from fans who back there manager compared that to the abuse being volleyed by the anti Wenger lot who coin phrases ie wengerites forehead akbs etc furthermore the anti Wenger lot predominatly come across as very childish kids who have a total lack of respect.

@giroud fan: I am trying to make some sense of your little entry.
You think Wenger should stay but perhaps pep is OK.
And you think Arsenal should have a winning mentality and play good football. No kidding.
Here is the problem: Over the past 2 seasons Wenger has acted over and over again to ensure that Arsenal can’t play good football and can’t keep a winning mentality when all the best players are sold away and good players are overlooked so that his favorite bad players get on the field each week. These are only some of Wenger’s misdeeds.
Wenger is acting in complete contradiction to what you say is important but naturally you still support him. That makes no sense at all.

Really enjoyed your rant. AKB was something we all said a few years ago. Now members are getting in the way of progress. Believe it or not, I’m not quite in the Wenger out club but I’m getting close. Just feel he deserves a chance to turn it around (end of season 3rd/4th and some new players his only hope imo).
His arrogance and he fact he seems not to care about ticket prices or fans wanting their money’s worth (ie some world class players)
Some say we haven’t really got the money yet. Garbage! Look at AC Milan. Poorer than us and have some top drawer players in the side.
We generate double..YES DOUBLE the money Spurs do and they outspend us by miles.
Just not good enough anymore.
Worst fear is that Wenger is using Arsenal as his pension fund. The less he spends the more money is n the club etc.
Also the days of us finding bargains are gone. Everyone has copied Wenger’s set up and we’ve stood still. If there is a good player out there, everyone seems to know about him. You get the odd surprise…but not many.
Basically, to get good players you need a great youth team set-up (I mentioned getting some of the ex-Barca youth team coaches in) and the balls to spend.
If Spurs keep spending 40m every season then we should be at least matching them.

@ thevoiceofreason – one thing: Wenger didn’t start a sub-standard keeper in the CL final. Lehman was sent off after 15mins or so and had to be replaced.
Other than that I think the main frustration is that us Arsenal fans that actually go week in week out are getting a rough deal. Paying £1,500 a year to watch a team that wants to win, has huge expectation on it, and has little support from above. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it fraud, but we are being manipulated. The club is preying on the fact it knows it will always sell tickets and make the revenue. There is not enough impetus to succeed because there has been – and is – no repercussions for the board or management.
There is an emotional bond between the fans and our club, and we’re being abused.
