Arsenal win work permit for Ryo Miyaichi – which will speed up Nasri’s departure

Posted on August 09, 2011 by admin

This is probably the news that Arsene Wenger has been dying to hear more than any other this summer, as he believes that the little Japanese star Ryo Miyaichi will be a more than adequate replacement for Samir Nasri.

Now that Miyaichi is in the squad Wenger can happily take the millions on offer from Man City for Nasri, and will tell the Arsenal fans that Miyaichi is “like a new multi-million signing”, which may well turn out to be the case, but there is still an element of risk involved.

In fact he will probably say the same thing about Thomas Vermaelen’s return to the squad which has given him the perfect reason not to sign a new centre-back. In January Wenger made it quite clear that having five centre-backs was more than enough (and that was when Vermaelen was injured long-term). Why do Gooners believe he will buy another one now that the Belgian is fit?

In my opinion, when Wenger promised another defender, he was probably talking about a new left-back, and if Enrique chooses Liverpool then that probably won’t happen either.

I may be in a cynical mood, but honestly I’m very happy that Miyaichi has got a work permit. I’m just not sure he is adequately schooled to deal with Premiership defences just yet…….

Wenger has now released a statement about Miyaichi. He said: “We are absolutely delighted that Ryo has been granted a work permit.

“This is almost like a new signing for us, as we weren’t completely sure we would be given the authorisation.

“Ryo has worked extremely hard in pre-season and performed very well during the matches in Asia, Germany and Portugal.

“Ryo has natural technical ability. He has good balance and phenomenal pace, and his passing and crossing is consistently of a high quality. He is a very exciting player.

“He had a successful time with Feyenoord in the Netherlands last season, who gave him the opportunity to play regularly, and we’re looking forward to his contribution this coming season with Arsenal.”

He is like a new signing for us lol!

***Anders: The signings Arsenal need to make them the complete team!***

  3. Emery says:

I believe Miyaichi will be brilliant having watched previous clips of him but also watching him in this pre-season hes looked great, hes exciting, quick, takes players on, tries skill and cuts in, he looks like a great player and I agree its like a new signing as I believe he can play some part in our challenge this year, if both Cesc and Nasri go then I do think we will need to sign someone to replace one of them but if only one leaves then I see no reason to get another player in.

I reckon we will sign Cahill this week, Samba looks out of the equation now which im gutted about as I think he would be perfect for us, but still Cahill would be a great signing, we dont need a LB and wont sign one, with Gibbs (as good as Clichy) Traore, and also Vermaelen and Koscielny can both play there, theres no reason to sign one, Wenger clearly realises we need a CB though otherwise he wouldnt have made bids for Samba, Jagielka, Cahill etc. I dont want Metersaker though, I saw some comments about him on another story and there were some people arguing it dont matter if hes slow, to me I dont think it does that much, its important but not vital, what im worried about is it will take time for him to settle first of all, then it will take him time to adapt to the English game, and lastly it will take time with regards the language barrier, all of these wont effect Cahill and I honestly believe we will sign him at the end of this week/start of next week

  6. Billbo Tea Baggins' says:

I’m happy about Ryo too but I’m not sure we really need yet ANOTHER WINGER! We still need a quality LB, CB and DM or at least a utility, high quality defender like Maicon, who can play all those defensive positions well, win balls in the air and finally defend and counter consistently. Arsenal has way too many wingers I mean, besides Gervinho and v. Persie being able to play CF and WF; we have Arshavin, Walcott, Vela and now Miyaichi and Chamberlain! That’s 6 attackers, only two of them are real strikers… Just pick up Jagielka or Cahill already.

Since Nasri is out and Fabregas will follow the exit sign out of Emirates too it should add some significant funds to our $80 million in the bank (yes I’m American) and now with $40 million for Samir and another $40-50 for Cesc we should be able to compete with the likes of Man City/Utd/Chelsea… that’s over $100 million bucks he can spend easily! Even Liverpool spent over $100 plus million this summer… With Man Utd closing in on Sneijder and Chelsea picking up Lukaku I don’t see how we can compete in multiple competitions again if Wenger doesn’t take advantage of the funds available to him… Although part of me wants to stay positive, time is running out. Chin up Gooners, I have a feeling this Wizard has an ace up his sleeve. Might be one of his last few tricks left but let’s hope for the best and continue to support!

Wenger wont buy a CB, why o why if he wanted one would he consistently offer derisory bids. He is trying to fluff us off and will blame the other clubs who didnt have time to get a replacement. The author of article is spot on, after 6 years of fluffing I know what AW is like. Yeah its been a ‘very active summer’ of selling players and buying youngsters. Wenger OUT NOW!!!!!!!1

While Nasri did the business in the first half of last season, he did next to nothing in the second half and his form, along with that of Fabregas and others, was some of the reason our season fell apart. I’m looking forward to seeing both of them(Nasri/Fabregas) out of Arsenal, to enable Arsene to bring in players who are hungry and want to play for the Gooners. Let Nasri go and join the posers at City and Fabregas warm the reserves bench at Barca. Good riddance to them both. One thing though…I’m not having Oxlade-Chamberlain on my shirt, it would cost a fortune, for that many letters! I’ll stick with just Ryo

  33. LtDan says:

I don’t think Miyaichi will stand up to the rigours of the premiership. I’ve seen him quite a few times playing in the dutch league and he never really impressed me. He seem too lightweight and for all his trying, got bullied and rag-dolled off the ball far too easy. Has got speed but when he tried to combine that with a few tricks on the wing often got the ball stuck under his feet.

As for his crossing of the ball….it’s not that great and won’t be of any significance for Arsenal as we’ve not had an out and out aerial target man since Alan Smith. Even now when we cross the ball into the oppositions box there’s no one there to meet it…..Van Persie doesn’t strive on the aerial game, Bendtner and Chamakh never in the box in any case and were more than likely to be doing the crossing of the ball. Generally, The aerial game isn’t Arsenal’s way as we prefer to pass it into the goal.

As for a new centre back, I think that Koscielny and Djourou will be just fine and despite what people might perceive have quite a good robust understanding. My problem is at left back and my hope is that Wenger doesn’t take a chance with Gibbs or Traore as they’re both a liability and opts for Vermaelen instead, as he does the basic job of defending (properly) first and foremost and doesn’t take the cavalier approach of the other two !

My other worry is we don’t have ready made replacements that can perform in the absence of our first choice eleven. We keep buying youngster in the hope that they’ll develop quickly and can be able subs when needed.

Most of the youngsters we’ve had over the past few seasons and even further have failed in that respect ie Pennant, Fran Merida, Vela, Bendtner, Emmanuel Thomas, Randall to name a few. The only one exception to them has been Wilshire who has immediately got to grips with the pace and technical requirements of the premiership and slotted seamlessly into the existing team.

We’ve just got to be even more technically proficient and do things a lot more competently and faster than we have done in the last few seasons if we want to deal with some the attrition football which is played in the premiership today…if not, we’ll get over run by not just the big teams but the lesser teams in the division and for another season be the ‘Nearly Men’ !

    RW – Walcott, Gervinho, Chamberlain

I think Nasri is sold, but not Cesc. The first team looks like this:

RW: Gervinho, CF: Van Persie, LW: Mata

If Cesc and Nasri are included in the squad against Udinese doesn’t that mean that wherever they are transferred to they won’t be able to play Champions League football this year ? I like the versatility in the new-look front line. I like that we can field three forwards who can rotate throughout the game leading to uncertainty for the defenders. It is looking like a very fluid formation.

I am dissapointed some people have eyes and cannot see. Arsenal transfer budget of 40million is ridiculous in this current transfer market. An average player cost about 20m not to think of a world class player then you are ready to do a deal at around 30 – 40m in this current market. Hopefully Gervinho turns out good for the club at just 11m. Do you tell me Alex OC is worth more than Gervinho or better? Is it downing that is better than Gervinho at 20m. Can wenger compete with the big money spenders with 40m transfer budget. Even Barcelona had to sell some of their priced asset with the hope of buying them back in order to compete for signings. So why direct your frustration at the manager instead of the board. If we are rich enough then the board should instruct him to buy any player at any price and see if wenger wouldn’t buy. Can we compete with the others with our wage policy and yet you blame wenger. I hate the board for not doing the right thing not wenger. I base my judgement on facts not sentiments so you haters pause for a sec before you jump…
