Arsenal’s Miquel expects January move if injuries ease

Posted on January 12, 2012 by admin

Arsenal’s fifth-choice centre-back (or sixth if you include Squillaci ahead of him) has recently been regularly drafted back into Arsene Wenger’s first team due to the massive injury problems to the Arsenal defence, although he has had to play out of position on the left.

The 19 year-old admitted that he thought he would be moving out on loan this month before the glut of injuries forced his promotion. He said: “Before the injuries, I had in my head to go on loan to the Championship,”

“But now with this, I’ve not spoken to anyone. If they sign someone or Kieran Gibbs comes back, we’ll see if I stay here or go on loan.”

He also told the press that it had been difficult to play out on the left again after so many years playing in the centre, but he is happy just to be getting some game time for Arsenal wherever he plays.

“In the last two or three years I have been playing at centre back so it’s quite hard for me to get back to left back,” Miquel said. “But to be fair I used to play there and you more or less try to remember what you can from when you were younger.

“Once you get there training and playing a couple of games, it is just another position. I think it’s a position I’m going to learn much more in so I just have to try and keep focused anytime I play.

“I think I have had a lot of opportunities this season, unfortunately because there were a lot of injuries, but overall I am happy to be getting minutes for the first team in the Premier League and the Champions League.”

It would be a shame if he is judged on his performances at left-back, although he seems to have coped well so far, when he could be improving himself in his natural position if he was farmed out for the rest of the season. But can Arsenal afford not to have the extra cover in case the injury situation gets worse?

Would be nice if he got a loan chance at a premier league side.
From what I’ve seen of him, he looks to be quite a good up and coming player. Looks more stable and controlled than Jenkinson and they’re more or less the same age.

He is doing a good job in the LB position… If Arsenal are going to buy/loan a new LB i think we should loan him…. it will give him more experience and develop him even more

Just get shot of squillaci almunia chamakh park arshavin and rosicky this winter window bring back bartley vela and lansbury buy baines onouhua huntelaar hoilett. give us quality where its needed.

we must begin february with 3 players for each position we are in 3 competitions so will have plenty of matches for everyone if we can stay in it.i dont mean 18 year okds covering out of position we need strong fit players that are used of playing their position for example 6 centre backs stuff loans we need mertesacker djourou bartley for the right and vermaelen koscielny miquel for the left. baines gibbs and santos left back. sagna jenkinson and onouhua right back. szcesney fabianski martinez and shea i am ok with that. midfield we need 9 ramsey song arteta wilshire coquelin benayoun lansbury ozyakup diaby i am ok with that but if diaby is still injured then just get rid and bring in someone. we nred 10 strikers as thierry should be leaving so henry rvp walcott gervinho chamberlain huntelaar hoilett vela miyaichi watt and afobe well theres 11 that will do me

  9. I’d have him in front of Squillaci personally, I hope for his own personal development that he gets to go on loan and have constant game time, Wilshere is proof of what can happen as a result

Cannot believe some of you are calling for Park to go already after just two appearances. Just because he’s not made it into the first team yet doesn’t mean he’s crap, have some patience please. Also do not understand the clamour for Baines as I’ve seen him in his last 4 or 5 games and he has been roasted every game. Yannaria at right back and Miquel at left will do for now as we will need two quick defenders against Swansea,s flyers. Koch will play andc then it’s between Squilachi and Doujrou to partner him as Mert is ill and won’t play. Sqil did play well against Leeds but is always an accident waiting to happen. Song perhaps but he’s better in mid field.
The worrying game is next week cos if we beat Man U that could put the spuds at top of the league.

Agree with most of the players you want out except Rosciky has been a force this year and playing some good stuff.
