Arsenal’s problems ARE caused by Wenger!

“For me there are five trophies: Premier League, Champions League, the third is to qualify for the Champions League, the fourth is the FA Cup and the fifth is the League Cup.” Those were Wenger’s words from the AGM. Listening to those words tell you that there is no Ambition at the club anymore, and that money is more important than trophies to Arsenal F.C right now and when that will change i don’t know; but what i do know is that there is no Arsenal fan who is pleased at the moment.
I read a lot of comments from some (naive) Arsenal fans and i think we should really take time to examine these things. A lot put the blame solely on The board while others think its Wenger, but i think they both have equal shares of the blame.
Arsenal F.C has a very ridiculous wage cap which has chased a lot of our top players out like Nasri, Adebayor (remember he was once good for us), Van persie, and now maybe Walcott. I know a lot of people will say its the board that put that wage cap on but lets face the truth, do you really think it will still be there if Wenger didn’t want it? How will a player like Balotelli be receiving more than Van Persie? thats an Insult. Wenger is probably one of the highest paid managers in the world yet his players can’t measure to what other top players in the EPL collect, how is that fair? He is paid more than Ferguson.
Wenger does not care if his players continue to leave and lets the fans blame them for leaving because of money, when a whole Ferguson went as far as topping up Rooney’s wages despite the fact he could let him go and still get some of the best strikers in the world.
A lot of people are so naive that they actually believe that the board are withholding money from Wenger to spend. You think with the hold he has on the board, if he wants to make a bid for Messi they will stop him? Wenger and Wenger alone chooses not to spend, it has nothing to do with board, because managers who want money and are not given and who are actually ambitious will threaten to resign if they are not given what they need. Wenger only spends on players who he can take to 4th place.
I believe he doesn’t buy top players because he’s probably threatened by their reputation, just as he was of Dennis Bergkamp’s when he refused him a coaching role at the club.
All the above should tell you that whatever is happening at the board level concerning money is because Wenger let it happen.
Now let me talk the team we have at the moment. A lot of gunners will blame our predicament on the fact that we dont spend big, but come on gunners, lets be realistic, aside from Man United’s strike force of Rooney and Van Persie, what do they have on us? De Gea vs Szczesny; Ferdinand, Rafael, Evra, Evans vs Gibbs, Sagna, TV5, Per; Anderson, Fletcher, Carrick, Valencia vs Carzola, Wilshere, Arteta, Rosicky (using a 4-4-2), when you compare the teams by player strength you will see that the difference is only their stikers, so why can’t we be half as good as they are?
Now this is where I tell you that it all boils down to Wenger! He has lost touch of reality and his ego and stubbornness is destroying the team he built. He keeps on playing players in their wrong positions knowing that it doesn’t work, but he is too stubborn to admit he made a mistake. A 4 yr old will tell you that playing Ramsey and Podolski as Wingers is a disaster as they are not technically gifted and lack pace. Gervinho as a striker is a Big joke, when he has shown that he is better on the left and Ignoring the strikers in the team (Walcott and Poldi) to play Gervinho up front tell you that he is more concerned about proving how right he is than the results his wrong decisions provide.
A lot of people will say after all not long ago we criticized Walcott and Arshavin and now we are calling for them back? Yes! we are because they have improved and have shown that if you play them where they are better, they put in great performances, yet he plays Ramsey instead of Ox or even Rosicky as an attacking midfielder, with no good results and he still sticks to it.
His subs have been awful taking off the best players on the pitch and leaving the worst ones on; not being able to motivated his players, not been able to tap into their main strengths and worst off all telling them that it is more important to qualify for Champions League by finishing 4th (not really competing in it) than to win trophies because it generates a lot of revenue.
Personally i believe the players have lost hope in Wenger but can not say a thing because he is Wenger and untouchable else why will they be quiet? and this includes some fans too. We have gone from playing one of the best football’s in Premier league history to playing one of the worst with no defined pattern of play.
The game against Bradford has said it all, if you still blame transfers, then maybe you will say Arsenal needs Messi and Ronaldo to beat Bradford, if not its Wenger’s fault and i think he should Respectfully resign and keep his dignity to save the club, Arsenal will survive if he leaves. A lot may see it as a risk but top teams take risks and i personal will support that risk than settling for 4th always. You are measured by your recent accomplishments in the football world and those are trophies, but he has none in almost 8 years. Its time for him to go.

Honestly this is the best thing that could happen to arsenal, we needed a massive dip in form to scare the board/wenger whoever is it that’s stopping us spending. Now there clearly scared and will splash the cash. Before where we dipped but then picked it up and finished in top 4 was satisfying the board so there was no need for them to spend. Love to see nani and fellani next month!

Wenger is third highest paid manager in the world behind Mourinho ( Real Madrid ) and Carlo Ancelotti ( Paris St Germain ).

After a glorious 2003-04 season, Wenger had the duty to ensure continuity of success. Instead, Wenger seemed to have only barely held on to a slippery leash on an Arsenal team threatening to fall off the edge of a steep precipice. In the three years following the unbeaten season, he flushed out the core depth and experience of the Arsenal’s successful squad. Keown, Parlour, Wiltord, Pires, Ashley Cole, Lauren, Vieira, Campbell, & most notably, Henry left to make way for Fabregas’ leadership of a much younger, inexperienced Arsenal squad that was expected to achieve great things. Meanwhile, Wenger refused to recruit any notable experienced players with matching, if not better, physique & grit, particularly for his ailing defense.
It is worth nothing that, in his 16 years in charge of the Gunners, Wenger made only TWO central defensive acquisitions that successfully combined to win him the league trophy. However, after the unbeaten season, the once formidable pair of Kolo Touré & Sol Campbell had done its job. Campbell quickly faded afterwards. Gilberto still had the legs, but Wenger chose to sell what was left of him to Greece. Touré had to weather the backline storms with the woefully inept Cygan, who traded starts with the slow & shaky Senderos. Cesc fitted in well with his locksmith capabilities, but defensively, his contribution was nowhere that of Vieira, who admittedly left a major gap after leaving for Serie A. Song did a decent job, but he was more error-prone & more inconsistent than his predecessors. Flamini showed some promise, but his hunger for cash disrupted the budding team chemistry. With injury-prone Diaby yet to live up to his Vieira-like potential, Wenger still showed no desire to restore his defense & defensive midfield to its former stature. Set-pieces, silly goals, & over-passing became major concerns year after year. Fans & critics alike bemoaned the lack of depth, experience, physicality & killer instinct in Wenger’s men. The Frenchman chose to ignore the criticism & continued to focus more on offensive, less physical, but technically gifted additions to his squad.
Since the Invincibles season, Wenger’s central defense mostly played Djorou, Gallas, Cygan, Senderos, Touré, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Silvestre, occasionally Song, & a slowed down Sol Campbell. In between injuries, inconsistencies, & downright ineffectiveness, none of these players at their best proved a worthwhile match against the skilled & physically robust players of the EPL. Drogba, for instance, came to & left England without ever feeling the real sting of old Arsenal’s defending. Despite Allardyce’s Bolton Wanderers, Pulis’s Stoke City & other lower opposition teams exposing the obvious lack of physical prowess in the post-Invincibles Arsenal teams, Wenger continued to ignore the elephant in the room. Instead of solving his problems, Wenger chose to only complain about refereeing & other teams’ physical tactics. Players have been available on the market for reasonable deals, but Wenger decided to invest in little known, unproven youngsters. Season after season, Arsenal failed to reach the heights of glory of years before, coming close but never making it. Meanwhile, Chelsea & Man City had jumped in and stormed right past the frail Gunners. They matched Man United’s clout on wages, invested in the market’s best talents, & succeeded in winning the league. Even Arsenal’s own noisy neighbor, Tottenham, seemed to have worked harder at achieving an edge over their London rivals. The best Wenger could do is fight for better economics in football – Fair Play.
He has given every excuse in the book, but, in truth, any top team’s problems should not last seven years (soon-to-be eight) to solve. In a results-driven age of football, Wenger should show more urgency and desperation. Sometimes, Arsene also needs to go for obvious solutions in proven players instead of trying to fork out an unheralded gem from some unknown corner of the world. Wenger is a great manager, who has proven he can bring the best out of players. However, he needs a bolder approach on the market, and a lower tolerance of mediocrity in his squad like his Manchester counterpart.

Good one.All the writer wrote down are the things I have been posting on this forum. Every bit of it. Its time for people to reason. Have always said it and Gazidis has always maintained that Wenger is in charge of all transfers(buying and selling).I have also asked those who claim its the board that influences the sale of our best players the question: If Wenger insists that his best players would never be sold and if they do, he would resign, would the board still go ahead to sell them?
But the Wenger worshipers choose not to reason.
What about fighting for your players as a manager? No, he only fights for the bad players, who by extent, dont have any say in anything since they feel indebted to him for giving them contract extensions(insert names here). But the really good players, who feel they contribute a lot to the team and who from time to time, can voice their discontent, he lets them go knowing that some fans will blame the board. VP complained about the direction the club was going and we heard that when he saw three players signed by Arsenal, he had a change of heart to stay but Wenger had made up his mind and was having no more of him. Sagna complained at the beginning of the season and wondered why we sell our best players and again, Wenger wont have any of that so he is off in the summer. WHY CANT THE WENGERITES REASON?
You people think that Wenger with his ego can be dictated to by the small man Gazidis?
Wenger is a professor and simply doesnt believe that players should earn as much or close to what he, an educated man does.
The players are not playing for him anymore and infact, they have lost confidence in him.It started a long time ago but the players being respectful, will not come out to say it openly. When the players start doubting the manager’s abilities, there is no remedy for the manager.

Spot on!!! AW has the money but does not spend rather tries to balance the book or make a huge profit from the player sale. The only time the board has intervened in player trade was Nasri rest Fab, Persie, Song, Henry….etc were all AW doing!!!

Wenger is at total failure, i bet some managers will archive more with than present, with our current squad.. Why must wenger play ramshit & shitvinho? Why did he keep playing some players out of their respective favourite positions? E.g arteta-poldi-theo. Why is he using the same formation which dosnt suit us, why not to try something different for at least 1 or 2games? Top 4 is minimum, As a self-sustained Club with a debt of new stadium, AW is not wrong on this unless we want to be some club like Chelski, but AW he shall be responsible for picking wrong players!
Hopefully AW will dithch players like Ramsey and Genvinho, Chamakh, put Poldi on bench, re-sign Theo, promote Gnabry, Eisfeld and spend on DM in Jan!

I applaud this article!!!! THere are far too many AKB boys who want to blame everything on the owner/board because of what Wenger has done in the past. Living in the past dooms you to an unpleasant future. Wenger’s authoritarian approach and seeming total control over everything isn’t healthy. His tactics are highly questionable. Rumors are that he and Bould aren’t getting along and that’s most likely due to Bould standing up to him, something I’m sure Pat Rice never did. I don’t think Wenger has lost the dressing room but I fear it’s coming dangerously close to that scenario. The players do not seem to be responding to him at the moment.

There really seems to be a massive shift in opinion since our recent run of poor performances and terrible showing at Bradford. I think fans are slowly waking up to the fact (myself included) that Wenger has run out of ideas. He seems to think that he can still transform players in the same way he transformed Henry, but when the player shows that kind of Ambition (Walcott) he snubs them and favours Gervinho. We do not have the right players to play 4 3 3 all the time, but Wenger would rather persist with this using players who are not natural wide forwards. (Previously Bendtner, now Ramsey, Arsharvin, Podolski, even Rosicky)…. Someone else suggested it, but why not play 4 4 2 with Walcott and Giroud up front and use Podolski up front as the third forward option , midfield of Wilshire, Cazorla, Arteta, Rosicky / Diaby if ever fit (or New strong mid fielder who is really needed …why we sold Song with 3 years on his contract is beyond me !!!) and a back four…. ….We would boss the midfield and would have a target man and very rapid forward to provide the goals and when Podolski is on the pitch a great poacher. (In the games when Walcott is not working, which does happen !). Wenger either needs to change, Leave, or go upstairs. We need a New manager with fresh ideas, one who is not afraid to change their approach when it’s not working… I hate to say it but Wenger out !!

Sorry but anyone still saying Arsene in great (I have been one up to this season) does not want to win anything.. it’s been too long, we won’t win anything this season and nothing is changing other than top players leaving….if Wenger was that good, the players would not leave, simple as that. I truly now feel that RVP, Nasri, Fabrigas etc…went because they could see the club was not moving forward rather than wanting more money…yes the Money is an appeal (isn’t it for all of us !!).. but if Arsenal were challenging and winning things, i bet they would all still be with us !

Fergie has survived so long at the top because he surrounds himself with good coaches and delegates training, coaching and to some extent tactics to them. He is a man motivator and when required spends big on players in their prime!!!
Wenger wants to do everything from top to bottom on his own…probably friggin mows the pitch as well in his spare time!

I’ve said this before and I stand by it!! I personally think it’s too late for AW, you tell me what world class players would want to come to AFC. We can’t provide them with high wages, we can’t garentee CL football next year especially with how the season is going, we have no chance of winning any domestic cups or challenge for the league and we can’t keep our best players. Only 1 way out and that’s a new world class manager to attract new players. FACT!!!

I am not convinced that Podolski can play as a centre forward…Many people arnt either(they just remember where he played at Koln)…i will say 2 things: Arsenal needs a technical striker(NOT WALCOTT) to accompany Giroud upfront..only then can we speak about playing 4-4-2..Who plays two poachers for Christ sake???..secondly Podolski has not demonstated the awareness and movement that tells that he can be a poacher(has to be poach cuz he isnt technical)…He missed an open goal last week…whata poacher…

If arsenal are to survive this anarchy, we need an internal and drastic measure to be taken, u buy players for cheap pay them heavy wages for playing nothing, the window is near, sell all the mediocres in the name of ramsey, gervinho, chamak, squillachi santos. Enuff of having faith. We work on the board bring back Dein, involve usmanov and his money, our pay structure is ok for the average players, the superstars should be paid what they are worth. Which is equal to motivation. Wenger is still agood coach but he needs stern hands to steer him back to todays football. An underperformer should be subbed whenever it musnt be after the hour hand, and finally Wenger change tactics and formation when plan A is nt working.

Don’t let us waste our time again.
AW is a builder who does not like to enjoy the effort of his labour. He spent AFC fund and other resources to develop players and let other clubs and manager enjoy the glory , the likes of (Fabrigas & Song to Barca),(RVP and Wallcot to ManU).
We fans know the problems but the culprit is untouchable. Gerzidi cannot talk to AW. No member of board has the power and right to question AW because he is making profit for them to share.
We don’t want Chelsea, PSG or Man city model but a reasonable transfer and wages for players according to their performance.
I believe it will take at least 2 seasons to have a real change in the team. We need clear-out of some players but will be difficult cos of their wages(Scquilacci,Arsevin, Gervinho,Charmak)then bring in better ones.

I just want my Arsenal Back. It a bloody joke that top 4 is considered to be a trophy. This is a losing mentality, something which ALL Arsenal fans, wenger supporters included, should have none of. Is that the same mentality the ‘Invincibles’ had? I think not.
It is not just the board, it is also the players who just couldn’t give a shit about the shirt they wear. Think about it, everyone slaughters the board and Wenger (and rightfully so) but no one criticizes the team as a whole, just individuals like Ramsey and Gervinho. The entire team played shit against Swansea, and Norwich etc. None of the players could be bothered. These are international footballers, and they couldn’t give a shit. I AM TIRED OF THIS! We lose to a team like Bradford? I mean its almost surreal isn’t it? It is not just the Board and Wenger who have betrayed us, it is the players too.
Goooners, enough is enough. Im sure all of you are tired seeing our team fall out of the title race, and get knocked out of every competition every season for the last 7 years because of our lack of quality and our inability to do basic things on a football pitch, like i dunno, F@cking DEFEND!!! Notwithstanding the fact that we sell our best players EVERY SEASON!! Anyone who knows anything about Arsenal know about our defensive frailties but season after season Wenger has done nothing to change this and has perpetuated an unacceptable cycle of mediocrity.

You do not have to be a fan of AW, running a club with huge debt is not easy unless you want AFC to be a rich’s toy. imagine if we didn’t qualify for CL in the last 5 years, it will be diaster for AFC with such a huge debt. it’s always easier said than done.
i think AW has done a great job even without a trophy. of course AW shall take some blame for this recent crisis, but not all. players also need to take reponsibilies as well.
no matter when AW will leave the club, he has laid down a very good foundation for the future of Arsenal. i didn’t count how many trophy’s he won for us, but a stadium and keep us in CL already not easy. we need to look into longer term.

To whom much is given, much is expected. That is the story of talent and resources. That is the reason for fan frustration in arsenal. Nobody can resent martin oneal for not winning trophies. Nobody can resent david moyes for not winning trophies. They are not as talented as wenger and have not had wenger’s type of resources. That is precisely why when a team of arsenal’s calibre, history and resources suddenly starts building a mid table team while demanding top team wages (wenger, gazidis etc) and expecting top team stature as well, one can only laugh at them. Wenger and co believe they are so smart that they can change the laws of nature. They think that they can keep top players while offering them absolutely no incentive when they can go and earn more in better teams. You cannot defy gravity! They think that they can redefine what it means to win because they are so smart and we are all sheep. So what do they do? They tell you and me that fourth place is a trophy. Yeah, sure. Just like toyota is a ferrari, right? I am glad that they can no longer perpetuate this scam that has seen them charge the most ticket prices in the land while paying themselves top salaries, refusing to pay our top players decent wages and most of all, underperforming on the pitch, the worst of which was our defeat to bradford. Dont let our beloved club go down. There can be life after wenger. Dont be scared. There has been life in barcelona after rikaard and ronadinho. Arsenal can do it too. We just need to stop being scared and retire wenger.

The problem lies with AW 70% 20% the players 10% Stadium
Psychology plays a part but that is only brought to the fore over a period of time..
This is how I see things..
6-8 years ago we played the best football the Premier League has EVER seen.. We had players such as Pires,Henry, bergkamp, Hleb, Fabregas, Campbell, lauren, Cole, Gilberto silva etc..we played on a tight billiard table like pitch and pressed the opposition.. 5 passes later it was in the back of the net CL final here we come..ELECTRIC..
Now we have Giroud, ramsey gervinho Arteta, Gibbs vermalen mertesacker Jenkinson, Wilshere Chamakh cazorla etc..Half decent players, yet its at a far slower pace.. Headless chicken Gervinho….One legged speedster Giroud..watch Arteta, he controls the ball first and looks to go backwards or sideways, its all done at a more cautious pace…until Rosicky comes on and adds a little more impetus as he still remembers the good old days..
Here is the dilemma and difference
Past Arsenal.. were ‘gung ho’ with electrifying pace and vision that terrified defences.. although we were exposed on the counter attack at times..
Current Squad… One pace, no urgency and fearful of making mistakes..and exposed to counter attack at times…
The fundamental reason we are doing worse than previous seasons is that the p[layers no longer believe in themselves or AW.. and more importantly AW has bought poorly year on year since 2007 this is now evident and I’d say 3/4 of the fans agree.
Secondly The players are obviously worse than the great (invincible side) and now the good young players we’ve bought, don’t feel as good as they thought they were..
It is also frightening we have adopted this losing mentality or contagion.. call it what you want but the sad fact is winning begets winning..
The Ox, had he been around 6 years ago we would be talking about him as the next Giggs or Barnes…But as you see from the Body language of all our players they just don’t seem ‘UP’ for the challenge!!! This is because their brains are constantly experiencing negative outcomes
There is an old saying I liken it to in my life is
“Hang about with drop outs” and you become one
“Hang about with millionaires” and you invariably become more wealthy.. you become what you mix with..
It is similair in football and this is why a winning mentality in our football club has now been eradicated and replaced with mediocrity..
Wilshere, the OX, Walcott, Gibbs, are champing at the bit.. you can see it… but you can also see it being drawn out of them.. their heads go down. they give the ball away.. it’s like a disease without a cure..how long can they keep experiencing this without losing all hope or being sold to rival club (AGAIN)?
January may see AW purchase a few mediocre players to rescue our season and hope to finish in the top 4..However this may be too late for some fans…
I will leave you all with a question…
Can Wenger cure the disease and bring back the belief in our lost souls…. or does he leave now and allow a new Guard-i ola to deliver the antidote and bring back the ‘winning’ mentality to our players?????
