Arsenal’s season – One step forward, THREE steps back!
1 Step Forwards, 3 Steps Back. The Story Of Arsenal’s Season- by Lorenzo Sallows
And so the Arsenal pendulum swings again. After an inspired comeback scrape to victory against Aston Villa, Arsenal again displayed the typical burnout performance that a previous win has on them. Now languishing in 7th position in the Premier League, Arsenal’s top 4 finish ambitions now seem to be wavering, and a further 2 defeats will surely see that dream all together extinguished. Furthermore, the season doesn’t get any easier from here on in. AC Milan home and away, Tottenham, Man City, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle all lie ahead along with the usual string of lesser opponents thrown in to grab the odd point here and there. These are tough times and it is apparent that fighting 3 campaigns at once seems overwhelimg for this current Arsenal squad. Arsene has stated that every game for Arsenal now on is a “Cup Final” but we all know how Arsenal perform in Cup Finals…
Overall the display last night was flat, unmotivated, lacking a creative spark and the laborious nature of Arsenal’s passing was evident from the off. Bolton are at best a pedestrian outfit and Arsenal, regarded as a world class team, should be looking to wrap up 3 points in these types of fixtures. Manchester United have been as successful as they have been in the last decade due to their ability to win crucial games, 1-0, even if they have been playing terrible football. This is a trait that Arsenal definitely lack whether it be due to poor defending on match day or the absence of a clinical, ruthless streak. The point from the draw will prove to be invaluable to Bolton but will represent two points lost by Arsenal as Chelsea continue to plough onwards.
The main flaw of last night, seemed to be the flair and attacking prowess omitted by our midfield. Song was unusually wasteful on occasion and the ball spent most of the time played between centre backs and Szczesny in a rather erratic fashion, while Arteta lacked the pace to drive the attack forward, deputy in some ways to Koscielny’s mazy runs. Ramsey played the role of Casper the friendly ghost while both Walcott and The Ox were guilty of poor finishing. It was also evident that last night was not Van Persie’s night, with his exquisite chip only embracing the woodwork. The balance of scoring goals AND keeping a clean sheet seems to be eluding Arsenal at the present and this needs to be addresses immediately.
Having had all of our wishes granted for Oxlade-Chamberlain to start successive matches, the bench now appears even more barren and lacklustre than before. Henry in his pomp was undoubtedly, in my mind, the greatest forward in the history of the Premier League but he not the match winner he used to be. His introduction along with Rosicky provided very little forward momentum and they are arguably the best players on the bench we have. I would have preferred to see Park introduced instead of King Henry as he possesses more pace and hunger playing as a CF with Van Persie.
On the other hand, Sagna, returning from a serious injury, looked immaculate and had an extraordinarily composed and professional return to first XI football. We can only hope that all our other injured players have the same impact on their return to Arsenal. I hope Gibbs can finally return for the Blackburn game on Saturday as it will be extremely beneficial for Wenger to have a selection of players to choose from, against a team that we KNOW can hurt us offensively.
From here Arsenal’s season can go two ways. Either we will continue our slide to obscurity, (in which case I suggest we avoid qualifying for the “Europa League”) or we can obtain a galvanising force from somewhere, win the F.A. Cup, have a decent run in the Champions League and finish in the Top 4. I am forever optimistic about Arsenal; it just seems this faith needs to be repaid to the fans occasionally.
In Arsene We Trust.

The usual hogwash written by an Arsenal fan who simply has
no clue or was watching a different game,so woeful Walcott
missed another sitter just as he did vs Swansea and rubbish
Ramsey also has no clue, 3-0 halftime score should have had
the 3 points already but Arsene insists on playing woeful
Walcott and rubbish Ramsey match after match whilst Rosicky
and ben-Ayoun ,two of Arsene,s most accomplished and experi
enced campaigners either come on way to late in Rosicky,s
case or not at all ,in ben-Ayoun,s so another two points dropped and still the charade continues ,of playing Theo and Aaron week in and out ,maybe a 7th or even 8 th place
finish wil wake the coaching staff out of their lethargy,
we shall see ?

Tough tough times ahead….i said our chances of making top4 went out the window when Wenger didnt sign anyone in Jan…we needed an Arshavin like by like a few years ago a player to give us an extra dimension but we got no such thing. Now even Liverpool are gone ahead of us even after all their lack luster 0-0 draws at home. Something tells me Arsenal and Arsene are going to part company in the summer…i dont know is this the right move or not but there is something not right at the club. Talk of Mourinho coming back to premiership….Hindink available also….who knows.

samuel whilst i don’t disagree ramsey and walcottr have had very poor seasons, how do you work out the rosicky has had a good season?
he works hard but has been responsible for very few good assists and fuck all goals as usual over the last 2 years. his shooting is terrible these days and he’s been deservedly criticised for turning his back on several corner kicks this season resulting in goals for unmarked opposition players.
i have as much grievance with wenger for playing those guys as you, but to imply rosicky has been any better isn’t really a positive but rosicky has still had a really pants season so far

fabregas best midfielder under 25 in europe open market value 50-70 mil, sold with 3 years left of his contract for 20mil (euros not pounds!) cash plus add ons which amount to crumbs over many years which we may or may not get depending on a whole miriad of terms and conditions.
van persie along with messi and ronaldo as the three best strikers currently in europe, open market value 30-40 mil (if a few years younger a hell of allot more!) will only move to barca and will force move at end of season for between 10-20 million eurous and with only a year of contract left we will have to swallow whatever barca offer.
our two best players and biggest assets will be sold for between a third to half of there true market value AND THEN WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO A BOARD SAY WE CANT COMPETE FINANCIALY! WELL WITH THAT KIND OF FINANCIAL STUPIDITY, COMPLACENCY, AND IGNORANCE IS IT ANY EFFING WONDER? WHAT DO ALL THE SUPPORTERS OF THE BOARD AND ARE CURRENT SITUATION HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT?
COME ON LETS HERE THE DEFENCE?

On a lighter note, Arsenal Reserves 2 Fulham reserves 0
Eisfeld played 46 min’s and assisted the first goal.
So if we look at his performances at Dortmunds u19′s and a debut for Arsenal reserves thats: 13 starts – 6 goals – 7 assists
A start may be beckoning soon, if the first team don’t improve. WHAT IS WRONG WITH WALCOTT, one on one, fucking round the keeper! he was way out of goal, and Walcott is fast yes!?

What’s going on in the minds of arsenal players?
Arteta – Oh, no I should have stayed in Everton!
Walcott – I need a raise, to raise my game
Vermalaen – I hate playing left back
The OX – Why is it always me to be substituted? Not fair!
Ramsey – Attacking midfield is so hard, how does Cesc do it?
Arshavin – Ramsey isn’t really better than me, is he?
RVP – I want to score as many goals as I can and then quit in the summer

Its the story of the last 6 seasons. A great victory followed by a crappy draw or loss against a bad team. Remember Chelsea last year. We beat them only to draw at Wigan, I think 2-2.
We are not consistent and if you want to be at the top you need to be consistent! Any team can beat any team in the EPL, however you need to perform and build a good run.
We are a midtable club now and if you don’t see that you are blind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bye, bye RVP and hello Thursday nights (If we are lucky)
Negative? No, I am just saying things as I see it. I will always support Arsenal even if the play in the Championship. However, I have dropped my expectations (sadly) and now there is no more pain because with our current crop of players do you really see us in the top 4?
We are even with Everton and Villa!

Im sorry but I must say that when I watch the games this season it strikes me that we do not have the players capable or good enough to play the arsenal way. We do not have the material to play the kind of passing-play we try to do. There is no speed, no-one moves to help the ballman…

What A LOAD OF RUBBISH I watched last night Walcott can run fast and thats about all, in front of goal with just the keeper to beat kids stuff.
Lets try and find some mug that will give us £20m and off load him.
And what about the Welsh wizard Ramsey great at running sideways and backwards in front of goal more pathetic rubbish. OXO at least gives it a go.
Great to see Sagna back, and if you wants to know how to put a cross in boys look and learn,

we nead more english players in the team who know how to fight when needed as of now this bunch we now have let their shoulders drop when the goings tough and get well paid for doing nothing but pocketing the money. what i would lik to see is a captain that gives his team a kick up the ars when they are not pulling their weight on the pitch.also the fans could help a bit more by cheering them on abit more also more so when they are losing.last word players pull your fingers out of your arses and give us a big win.

This is ridiculous how can everyone slate ramsey so much, walcott admittedly has been poor recently but not all season, has everyone forgotten his goal against chelsea and how he is easily probahly the fastest player in world football? walcott is an asset we need to hang on to so stop ruining him for having a bad spell… im sure all of you are better at football than walcott is though so you have every right to call him shit because of a few bad games, wait till he gets back in his stride and you’re all saying how amazing he is again, and as for ramsey he is on of our best players and will be an amazing player when he is older, it’ll do us good to not get top 4 this season and get a wake up call and come a lot harder next season, unloyal supporters, u do my head in!

This is the worst Arsenal side, we have had in a very long time. From the last 5 games and a possible 18points what did we get…….2points, yes 2points, it’s almost unbelievable. In between, we managed to just get scape a win against Leeds and the Villa. This is not top four form, more like bottom four. With Blackburn,Sunderland and Spuds coming up, we will have our time cut out getting 6 points or less and our descent will continue. Love the Gunners, Love the fans

In the end the problem at arsenal is one of business strategy.
For Kroenke its about reducing costs and managing expectations while his company makes a steady return.
For Usmanov it’s about spending now to attract better and more lucrative sponsorship deals and improving the marketing potential of the club worldwide.
As long as kroenke holds the majority of shares nothing much will change. Teams owned by kroenke in the USA have been run into mediocrity and that is exactly what will happen to arsenal. There is very little fans can do expect pay ever greater ticket prices to line the pockets of shareholders that see aresenal as low risk investment prospect where players are traded for profit. Why do you think aresenal buy young low ost players? Because even if they don’t make it, they can be sold on. Welcome to the business of football.

sad story to tired arsenal fans.comfort zones has always been postponed to the next season, only to be rendered to the world of oblivion. Wenger has the eyes of a hawk- to spot talents who eventually end up somewhere else.most systems use the previous output to determine new inputs. arsenal does the reverse. there input, does not necessarily reflect the output. they are stuck in those French originated philosophies comparable to Aristotle’s air borne castles.we as fans, don’t understand the limits of the arsenal system, maybe they want to achieve a Europa league victory or they fancy the Aston villa and Everton places in the middle table. if this is what they want-seemingly, yes!-then we are stoning wrong people whose vision of the club is below par. we might call for there heads, but all the answers lies with both the fans, Wenger, Ivan.G and Kroenke. with fans hungry for success, the board has shown no resolute for success not even an attempt to perform.but we can’t beat them- they call all the shots at club level, cry! or laugh!, neigh! squirl! but the answer remains, if you can’t beat them, then Join them. however everything that has the beginning, has an end! before the end comes, I leave you with four words.” no pain, no gain”
arsenal is good. its the times that are bad.

I will always be an Arsenal fan but this season is the first time im not really all that excited to watch them play. In the last few years, even though we didn’t win anything, we had quality in the team and we were at least in the mix for trophies. We went from having the best creative midfield in the league to having middle of the table midfield. Lets not forget last year if we would have won our last four or five games, we would have won the league. Now we are 7th, you have to try really hard to drop in quality that much. Well done Wenger!

Wenger puts to much faith into Youth. We cant or refuse to pay big wages to at least rival Man U Chelsea Liverpool so as soon as the young players mature they go to a club that pays crazy money. Or they believe there own hype and never come good and end up in a mid table club (Which we will be very soon)
Van Persie has spent most of his time in and out with injury. This is the first season he has been fit, playing like we know he can and he is stalling over contract talks and will probably end up leaving. Wenger needs to buy proven quality and experience but he wont. Simple. I fear for futures of the Ox, Jack, Song and and Wojcech.
Gooner for life

The board have reduced this great club to bits. As sad as it sounds, we’re currently the laughing stock of football. We have a ridiculous wage system, we let our best players go for ridiculously low prices, and the good runs we have in the beginning of the season crumble down to nothing. Shows how flawed the club’s infrastructure is. I’m sick of those greedy, money-grabbing ar seholes, but face it.. What can we do about it? They’re here to stay, and they don’t give two f***s about the fans or football in general. I’m sick of excuses, and I’m done with their way of playing with words trying to show us that football really matters. I said a few months ago on a post about Van Persie with-holding contract talks till the end of the summer where I said that this is slowly turning out into a slow death for me and Arsenal, and wow… I was right.
If something is not done at the LATEST this summer, Arsenal are going to go down further the abyss and even faster.

On a serious note, i think it is time Walcott and Ramsey get a rest. When potential players lack the confidence needed to change games, they become average or even awful. For or next game i suggest…
Szczęsny
Sagna – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Vermaelen
Benayoun – Song – Arteta
Oxlade Chamberlain – RVP – Rosicky
Subs that should come on (in case where in need of goals) :
Walcott(for Rosicky) Park(for Benayoun) then change to 4-4-2 with Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain as wingers. Or if Eisfield is available, give him 20 minutes game time.
This definetly works.
