Arsene Wenger believes Abou Diaby’s injury problems will end (one day!)

Posted on December 12, 2011 by admin

The French midfielder Abou Diaby has been with Arsenal for five years now, and he came with high hopes of being the “next Patrick Vieira” but things have never gone right for him since breaking his ankle just four months after his arrival.

Since then he has never managed more than 20 games in any season, and has been injured an incredible 28 times since the initial problem. He looked like he was returning to fitness last month and made a couple of short substitute appearances against Borussia Dortmund and Fulham, but he has now had yet another setback.

Arsene Wenger said on Friday: “Abou Diaby is injured again,”

“The players are always impatient to come back. When they come back and they get injured, you think you have done it too early.

“We felt with the fitness coaches that he was ready to play, but he got injured again – it’s a minor injury but at the moment I must say he is very low because he has put a lot of effort in to come back.

“He has not played one full game since the start of the season. He is going through a very difficult moment just now because he has put so much dedication into his rehab and to be injured straight away again is very difficult to take for him. He has been out many times like that.”

“What you always say to a
player in moments like this is for them to try and stay strong and continue because it is only a small injury.

“I had the fear he would never get back to his best before his last surgery because he didn’t look comfortable with his ankle. Now I am convinced he will come back to his full potential.”

Diaby is still under contract at Arsenal until 2015, but how much longer can Wenger carry on having faith after such a long series of setbacks is beyond me. Does anyone think there is still hope for Diaby?

It’s sad to see Diaby’s situation now as for me he has a good technique with his foot on the ball, provided he can release the ball earlier and not holding it too long. But if you analyze the situation at Arsenal right now has too many capable midfielders who is more than able to replace Diaby (Ramsey, Coquelin, Song, Arteta, Wilshere )…

All of those mentioned above has good technical skills and also able to hold the midfield well.

It’s hard to say goodbye but Diaby must go as he is the liability at Arsenal now…

I dont agree with tOshiO, how much has Van Persie been injured and yet look at him now. Van P has never had a full season either. For me Diaby better than Ramsey. The touch and skill Diaby has is amazing and can produce somthing special in a match where as ramsey will give u an average preformance week in and out.

    @ Gilberto:

ramsey is vital for our midfield right now and he’s 5 years younger than diaby. if he progresses in the next 5 years like he does right now he’ll be WAY ahead of diaby.

i say keep diaby till the summer. if the situation continues, he has to make way or take a massive pay cut.

he has strength, control and dribbling ability. all he needs to work on is passing and shooting to be complete but he is always injured. if he doesnt make an impact this season then arsene might have to let him go.

hope so… as he is a decent player… just needs a good run of games… also if he decided to increase his intensityand urgency during games, he could be our Yaya Toure… fingers x’d for him anyways

He is a good player, but his performance need to be consistent and sort out his injury problem. but overall he shall stay with us. still believe he can make impact on the game.

  7. Dave Highbury says:

If Diaby gets a run of games, he will be awesome. The new style Arsenal with an attack/defense mid-field trio will suit him down to the ground. This time when he makes his turn and run, he will have back-up on the wings and cover from the other two mid-fielders. Don’t believe me, go check out his performances for France where he has had this freedom already. With the return of Wilshire and Sagna, the new year should be interesting. We have already shut up plenty of critics this season, but I would like to see more. Love this new look Arsenal.

Diaby is better then Ramsey & has more to his game than Ramsey. Ramsey needs 1-2 years to develop to be effective where as if fit Diaby can add value to the team right now.He as ability to provide those 10-12 goals /year from mid field.

Diaby is quality. He is definitely better than Ramsay. Better dribbler and finisher. I don’t see anything ‘special’ with Ramsay but I always see something special with Diaby.

He will surely bring somthing for the club, the little time he played last time showed his quality, he know how to use space and his body to protect the ball,

super calm dribbling, and one asset we forget, he has a powerful long range shot, he can be dangerous !

we still need him to my opinion.

Best man to substitute for Song when he’s fit.

Tall, Strong, Great ball control, Composure, Adroit, Robust

We should keep him and focus on selling Squillaci,Almunia, Bendtner, Denilson.

yes guys, diaby is better than ramsey for now.h keeps doing error.look at his performance week in n out.two r three times offside.many errors.stil yes he cn developed further.why not a loan to bolton if we gets goetze.maybe??frustating to watch him and rosicky shud b playing ahead of him.jst wtch arteta rosicky combination.one touch passing.meanwhile arteta ramsey ddnt realyy cmbine well.no offence.rambo is good,bt stil he hs a lot to improve.

Diaby has oustanding technical ability & i find it strange when some pple say we shud sel him. Believe me aw wil never sel him & i agree that he is beter than ramsy.

I would like to see him put in some work and change his attitude. His defensive work is poor and he scores as often as CHamakh these days. Flashes of brilliance dont make him better than Ramsey.

Truth is there is a lot of Midfield talent in the team and we will only realise his value over the others if he actually plays.

Ramsey has played and played well (except the Tottenham game). He has been consistent and won games, stopped goals, … Let’s see if Diaby can do more when he is fit or will be another Eduardo.

Diaby and Ramsey bring different things to the team…fantastic options for the manager to choose from when they are match fit…KEEP THEM!
