Arsene Wenger certain to sign players in January
Kieran Gibbs has not featured for Arsenal since October following a hernia operation.
“Kieran Gibbs has had surgery on his left groin and he will be out for a month,” Arsene Wenger confirmed the grim news.
In recent matches, Arsene Wenger has been forced to play a makeshift back four (all central defenders) due to the four specialist fullbacks Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs injured.
Arsene Wenger had previously said that he would wait on the results of Gibbs’ surgery before deciding whether or not to sign in the winter transfer window and with this unfortunate news it looks likely that he will have to make a defensive signing. While it is understandable that the players in the market suited for Arsenal in the long run are far and few between, a loan signing or a short-term deal looks very much in order.
Especially in the match against Aston Villa on Wednesday, the two makeshift fullbacks had torrid times on the pitch. Thomas Vermaelen and the surprise right-back Francis Coquelin looked very awkward in their new positions and the former man was responsible for the goal conceded. Perhaps that was an off day for Vermaelen in particular but there is no denying that Arsenal would have a tighter defence with Vermaelen playing in his favoured central role.
The problem at right-back is also one that must be resolved. With Djourou out for at least two more weeks, Sagna out till the end of the month and Carl Jenkinson out without a return date, Arsene Wenger also looks set to sign players in that position as well. In short, expect a few no-frills signings at the back that should get the job done while the regulars return from their injuries.

I actually think what Arsenal need is a versatile defender. I actually agree with the rumour mill that Jan Vertonghan would be a good signing. Being that he could play at CB LB and DM would be the type of signing Arsenal need. As a versatile CB or DM are something we could use to rotate Song and Cover.

Let’s stop naming players for January and just wait for the boss to make the call. Whoever we get, Wenger will assemble a strong team regardless.
Don’t expect Wenger to rush into buying. I would say in a month’s time, Arsenal fans can look forward to a great season in the CL, EPL and FA Cups.

vertonghen is d best option ryt now.considering versatility .as it wud be necessary to later find a replacement for squillaci.
on the attacking front kaka loan would not be bad either to ensure a top 4 finish . ideally it shud be vertonghen a striker ( podolski / damiao) and a winger or cam ( reus / torje / goetze)

We need to sign more players, not in defence alone. Is any body bothered about RVP,should fatigue or injury occur what will be the fate of this fragile team bearing in mind that he alone has scored almost all the goals that has taken us this far.Or do we have to wait until something urgly happens before we start running helter skelter?

We have wasted a lot of money. Wenger needs to buy players who are going to be one of the first names on the team sheet. Park chu young has barely played and we have spent 3 million on him. Benayoun, chamberlain are being wasted. Economically it makes more sense to bring in high class players who will be regarded as definite first team regulars. Morale and confidence would be boosted as well. In my opinion we are quite lucky to be in the position we are in now. think about it….Where would we be if RVP hasnt been and isnt on form? We are certainly not a one man team but RVP has been absolutely crucial this season and his form wont last the whole season. I say find a RB, and a World class striker if Chu young isn’t ready for premiership standards.
January is crucial..we are 12 points behind and we have the ability to change that if we make the right transfers/decisions.
Gunner for life.

Thierry Henry could still deliver upfront if its a short term deal but if no signings are made im scared with loss of gervihno and ‘chamkach’ i dont see van persie continuing his one game show fatigue if not injury could see him(arsenal) off the title challenge. i think diaby should be offloaded as quickly as possible, i mean, he’s a good player and on his day be very influential but he’s just far too injury prone. Also, this would allow arsene to then buy Kara Mbodj from Tromso. he was scouted last season but it all went quiet for some reason. he’s greatly improved now though and would be a perfect replacement/improvement on diaby. He’s huge ,6 foot 4, combative center mid and very strong. theres also the added bonus that he can play at center back which is always good. on top of that unlike M’vila and the likes he shouldn’t be too pricey 8-10 million should do it

Does everyone really think signing Henry is the solution? There’s no way he will be the player he was a few years ago. There is a massive case for signing a big money striker now purely because it takes a few months to settle in the premier league. Mertersaker will be quality next season because it takes time to settle. This season iPad to be considered as a build up to what we can possibly do next year. But Wayne bridge? Did anyone see him against us for west ham? Please god no

Baines is better than Santos and Gibbs, both defensively and going forward. Gourcuff would be a good addition, as will Wilshere when he comes back. I think, like Hazard, Gotze can be forgotten. Will never happen unless the player himself wants to come to Arsenal. Arsene won’t enter a bidding war.
I doubt that with our system of one striker and RVP being the undisputed number one forward at the club we can attract a truly world class striker as none would be willing to play second fiddle to RVP. Arsene would need to change the system and play two strikers if a world class forward is wanted. Why would Benzema, Podlski or anyone of that standard want to leave a starting place at their club to fill in for RVP when he’s tired or injured? Even Cisse wouldn’t leave to sit on the bench.
Arshavin should be played in his role before he is sold. He is not, never has been in fifteen years and never will be a winger. He is a centre forward/sit behind the strikers feeding them and should have an extended run playing in that role before everyone judges him so harshly.
I’m glad we didn’t get Cahill, has proven himself to be an average defender this season. We don’t need any more average players, we need players who would improve the squad, not just add to it’s quantity.
These days in the Premier League with sides like City, Chelsea, United buying world class, mature age footballers, a club will never win a title without doing the same. Furthermore, Arsenal must stop selling to title rivals like City, even at a finical loss. It’s ridiculous to think a club would sell a world class player like Nasri to a direct title rival. Would Barca sell Inesita to Real? Or would Real sell Ozil to Barca? It’s embarrassing.

I tend to fully agree with Johnno that Arshavin has been unreasonably judged too harshly. He is a true centre forward – not a winger that wenger tried to convert him to. What is terrible is when an in-form player who is on a little decline(after being converted to other position)gets to play from the bench with ONLY a few minutes of the game left! Its obvious that he wii be under ernomous pressure to perform. There was a match (cant remember which one) that Arshavin had only 6 minutes to play and try to impress the boss! That man would deteroriate further under such circumstances!! It would be a mistake to let him go. Think of the many games he played in his comfortable striker position where he scored very often (includng 4 Goals past Reina) and we know we would regret if he scores freely with another new team. He must be allowed to play alongside RVP He is strong with fanstatic dribbling skill(only when he plays in the right position). It hurts whenever he’s judged so unfairly!

By the way, Demba Ba certainly would be an excellent addition. Strong, skilful, good finishing. 13 goals so far. Stoke must be kicking themselves they turned him down because of an apparent knee problem… He sure has Crouch’s measure, mind you I probably do as well. That clown is useless.

The turn around since the start of the season has been magnificent, there is no denying that!…….BUT! there is still plenty of work to do before were being taken serious again by the tops sides in Europe.
I can’t help but feel we are getting left behind and another trophyless season could see our best players itching for a move- my opinion: Szczesny, Vermaelan, Song, Wilshere and VP. The Moneybag vultures will be circling the Emirates come April, if we are scrapping for fourth and have won nothing. FACT! Would VP (nearing 30 really sign a new contract, with all the ability in the world and one FA cup medal in his cabinet, if he did he should see a psychiatrist)
Every time we are linked to decent young player we are bullied in the market by other clubs, every time we have a player do well everyone wants to sign him ( this has to stop! When your going seasons undefeated , doing doubles and reaching European finals clubs can’t compete with that for all the money in the world!
The board and Wenger has let this happen! We are not a poor club we have 2 of the richest owners in the world, have the second highest gate receipt in the premiership and somehow despite all the new faces that came in last summer we somehow made a profit!
Actions needed: Get rid of some of this awful dead wood, congesting our squad and eating away at the wage bill. Players out: Squillaci 2M, Chamakh 7M, Bendtner 10M, Denilson 5M, Arshavin 8M, Rosicky 5M- That is roughly 37million and that’s not asking a lot for these players!
New blood, marquee signings, a statement to the football world and appease die hard fans like me with some confidence the master plan is going somewhere:
Eden Hazard if he costs £35m pay it for F*** sake! I’m sure Lille would even take Arshavin and Rosicky in exchange- our business acumen these days is dire! Podolski 10m, also part exchange some of our crap if needs be, Leighton Baines 8m and finally this much needed steel we love to talk about in the middle of the park ( when song is out there is definatly a void for someone of his ilk) when I read about Yaya Toure it makes me want to cry! so someone like M’villa? .
I think this all realistic and achievable and would give us a real chance to win something.
Who has a real Football brain and agrees with me?
Summary-
Out: Squillacci, Rosicky, Arshavin, Denilson, Bendtner, Chamakh.
In: Baines, M’villa, Hazard, Podolski
Come on you gooners!

Why do people insist on signing M’vila? we have 3 DM for crying out loud. If I were Wenger I would look at either signing Vertonghen or Samba, seeing Blackburn are on the way out, no CL either for them, I’m sure he would jump at a chance to join Arsenal. Then I would buy a world class striker alongside RvP. Podolski sounds good and would fit into our style of play. Then IF the board feel generous, I would buy Mario Gotze. (which isn’t likely to happen ofcourse) but alongside Wilshere and Song, we are looking at possibly the best midfield in the world, next to Barca – and would also ensure us titles and our star players extending their contracts.

vertoghen is ideal for us. i quite like santos, he brings something else other fullbacks dont offer but if him or gibbs dont make the cut consistently then jordi alba would be a typical arsenal player, i can see him slotting right in.
arshavin critism is totaly out of order, u shud be critising gervinho hu’s been pathetic as a EPL forward player (no sense of direction or objective, no awareness and despite what people say- he’s a terrible dribbler) arshavin’s mistakes come out of trying to do something positive for play but now he doesnt get enough play time then obviously his touches and passes arent spot on + all the fans critising him the way they have has an affect on his mentality so much so that he’s come out and agreed with fans (instead of feeling proud when he did that u should be ashamed to make a player of his class feel that way about himself) what if arshavin came out and disagreed with all fans, u’d all be calling for his head, the fans put him in a loose-loose situation and ultimately u pay the price when he doesnt perform so well. u know what arshavin is capable of, but with gervinho u can clearly see that he’s not capable of anything.

Deleny……mate….. I know my football and that ridiculous comment COME ON! I didn’t say go and sign Ronaldo for 70m and Messi for 80m did I now!
I am speaking perfectly good, realistic and ambitious football sense.
The fact is we have 5/6 decent players, a couple of OK players who do a job and the rest are not fit to wear the shirt outside of the match day 16. Look who is top of the Prem, they have at least 16 world class players and plenty of decent squad players.
As much as we can moan about the money in football you have to spend it too win the big prizes these days. If your happy with 6 years and no trophies then you must ill. Even Barca who have a good youth development model still spend 35million on Fabs or 20 odd million on players like Sanchez or Villa when they have needed to strengthen their squad.
I love Wenger’s purist and organic approach to the club, but the way I see it he has done so much of the hard work just by spending a bit of cash we would have the balance and team.
I think my valuations are spot on and the players stated are good achievable targets!
answer me one question, with the currant squad what do you honestly think we can achieve this season? I think 4th is the best we can hope and possibly the FA cup and I still wouldn’t be happy with that!

Deleny:
Ronaldo had a five year stint at Inter in between Barca and Real. Not sure where your logic is there? With Figo, there are always an exception to every rule, however that happened twelve years ago. I sincerely doubt it would happen in this day and age. All I’m saying is it’s embarrassing to be selling world class players to direct title rivals. What message does it send to the club’s players, fans and the other clubs in the league? Clearly not a positive one at all. I would have preferred to sell him to Inter for 5m than City for 25m. Do you think City would us Silva? United Rooney or Chelsea selling us Sturridge? Even Liverpool selling us Suarez? Would never happen.
