Arsene Wenger retains faith in Kieran Gibbs full recovery (and his England chances)
When Arsenal sold Gael Clichy to Manchester City in the summer, many Arsenal fans were very worried that the injury-prone left-back Kieran Gibbs was a dangerous substitute due to his unending visits to the treatment table.
These fears proved to be well-founded as the 22 year-old made just 8 starts for the Gunners this season before being laid low with a groin injury which has now required more surgery. And although Wenger brought in Andre Santos as cover the Brazilian has also been injured after making just seven appearances himself and is now forecast as being out for three months with ligament damage to his ankle.
There had been much talk of Arsenal buying another left-back, but Wenger has made it clear that he only wants a short-term loan deal as he still retains faith in his crocked duo. He even still believes that Gibbs can regain his place in the England squad when (If??) he returns to the squad in the New Year.
“He is incredibly unlucky but he still can play in the Euros, because they are in June and we are in December,” Wenger said.
“Normally this injury would keep him out for four weeks, so there is still a good opportunity. But we cannot waste any time.
“It is very difficult for him. I feel sometimes for players between 19 and 20, if they get injured, then their body adjusts a little to the requested physical level then they can have a long period without injury – I have seen it many times.
“Some get through it, but most of them suffer injuries between the ages of 19 and 20.”
“It builds them up as well, mentally,” the Arsenal manager continued. “When you start, you think life is easy, then this kind of injury is very difficult to cope with. The guy who doesn’t play feels useless, especially when he he is injured.
“He cannot even fight for his place so it is a difficult period. But it makes him tough.”
“Long term, I am sticking to Santos and Gibbs,” he concluded. “I love both of them because they have a quality I like, which is to attack.”
It’s okay admiring Gibbs for his attacking qualities, but he can hardly attack anything from the medical facilities at the Emirates, can he?

wenger is right, gibs has the qualities required of a left back for an attack minded team which is what we are.he is only unfortunate with injuries, but with coach and fans support, he will soon come out of it. remember rvp of then when people were agitating for him to be sold bcos he was injury prone, what of today? he is our best player and arguably the best player in the league. so let support gibs, the quality is there.

get rid off squid n get vertonghen. santos as first lb. gibbs when gt back fit need time to developed further n plays him on a cup such as carling or fa cup as a third backup.i wud love to see tv5 and jv verminator combination.stil dnt see it comin tho. wenger prefered short term replacement.beck or any surprising talent wil be the one as a short replacement.either kos or tv5 gt injured then he wil realise.djourou n squid is useles.

Don’t get me wrong Gibbs has the potential to be a world class left back/full back. I honestly think if injury free he would take cashley coles place in the england team! But with all these injuries, I think every single fan is getting fustrated with gibss being injured all the time! Santos first choice all day for me!!

What about bringing arbeloa on loan? He can play at both flanks and he is not having any minutes at RM.
Gibbs has what it takes to be a great LB, he is just so unlucky. I mean his major injuries has been only a broken metatarsal and a hernia, bones heal really well and a treated hernia is usually fixed completely. Just give him some time.
