Arsene Wenger to get new five-year Arsenal contract
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been with the club for thirteen years, and is by far the most successful manager in their history.
The Frenchman already has a contract that goes through to 2011, but it has been reported this morning that the board have already decided to offer him an improved deal which will take him through to 2015.
The News of the World said this morning: “Arsene Wenger will be offered a surprise new deal, designed to keep him at the Emirates for the rest of his career. The Arsenal manager’s current contract does not expire until the summer of 2011 and Wenger usually waits until he is in the last year of his agreement before renegotiating.”
“But the Gunners board are putting together a proposal that would see their manager – who turns 60 in October – commit himself until at least halfway through the next decade. And essentially it would tie him to the club for life. The board believe Wenger is so excited by his team of promising youngsters, he will sign.”
The board must be extremely happy with Wenger. Not only has he won more trophies than any other manager, he also makes them a tidy profit through his transfer dealings every summer!
Just as an aside, the price of Arsenal shares has risen from £1500 apiece in 2004 to £9000 a share at the moment. That is a 600% rise in just five years, so if anyone decided to sell their holding they would make a very nice tidy profit!
And its all thanks to Arsene!
