Arsene Wenger Worried More Players Could Leave Arsenal

Posted on September 24, 2011 by admin

After the tumultuous summer at the Emirates which saw the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy leave, Arsene Wenger fears the worst as more players could leave Arsenal next summer.

Contract talks have already begun with Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Alex Song, and talks are also due to commence with Thomas Vermaelen very soon. Wenger fears that because Arsenal cannot match, or should that be refuse to pay, the wages that some clubs offer their players Arsenal will be forced to sell their players rather than them leaving for free when their current contracts expire.

He said, “We will try to sign them, but we have tried before. The gap on that front has become bigger for us. I cannot say that if we go to our maximum wage we are sure to sign the players. We will try to convince them. Our desire is there and we are ready to sit down with them. After that we will see where we go.”

We cannot let the same happen next summer as happened this with Nasri. It was farcical, but we did get a good price for him. But this is where the board come in isn’t it. There are the ones that dish out the contracts and pay the wages, but if players see the pound signs elsewhere they will leave no matter how much they love the club.

None of us can be sure what will happen in the future with any player regardless of how long their contracts have left to run. It would be great if the likes of Van Persie and Vermaelen signed new deals, but if we do not have a great season would you begrudge them if they wanted to move on? Football is a game of ifs and buts. If only Vermaelen and Van Persie were fit last season we would have probably won a trophy or two and this would not even be a problem now.

our board may distroy our club, we might be a mid table club if things stays like this till 2 to 3yrs time, i pray usmanov takes over soon, cuz he wil want to compete with his friend abramovich or wat do u think?

If the board wants our great ARSENAL to become a feeder club, God will punish them.
On the real, if this sh*t happens, we’ll be a mid table club like Newcastle and the fat SOB’s wont get as much greens as they are so used to.
Having said that, I don’t think those SOB’s will like to see a shortage of paper in their bank accounts. So they’ll probably sit up and do the math (unless they’re dumb as cow sh*t)!

As much as I like Vermaelen…..although a fine-fine defender but whats the use ? he has hardly featured for us !!! We need somebody strong and fit at the back !!! Cash in on him ! Get a better defender ! Have to get CAHILL IN WINTER !
Wenger needs to change the formation to 4-4-2…..which he won’t do in the Premier League for which only professor nows the reason…..i can’t understand the logic ! A team should change its formation according to the game….but Arsenal is predictable now !!! STOP PLAYING LIKE CATALANS…..THIS IS ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE AND NOT LA LIGA…..BE DIRECT…OR FACE EMBARASSMENT AGAIN !!!
Arsenal have to hold on to Persie and Walcott and lure them to sign a new contract !!! Cash in on Arshavin…..replace him with someone better !!!
WE NEED TO SHOW INTENT IN JANUARY TRANSFER MARKET BY SIGNING A BIG NAME TO HOLD ON TO PERSIE AND WALCOTT !

Opinions divided. What do you think? Thumb up 10 Thumb down 7

  7. nicky says:

I wouldn’t like to see this happen but if our top wage scale is insufficient to retain our top players, then, like the owners of Chelski and Man Citeh, our two billionaire shareholders will have to step in and save the day. As my Gran who cleans at the Emirates often says “Beggars can’t be choosers”.

@gunner…….about vermaelen…remember last season what happened ?….yeah he played for us this season..only in couple of games….again an injury….out for 2 months ! As far as injuries are concerned I believe the main for this can be the fact that our playing style has now changed a lot….we try to play as if we are playing in LA LIGA…..BULLSHIT ! Be direct…..or will lose again and again…..buying unproven players now….Carl Jenkinson AS A REPLACEMENT IN DEFENCE…BLOODY HELL…..GOTTA BE JOKING !!!

Walcott can go, so can Arshavin, we have Ox and Ryo anyway. Vermaelen must stay, and RVP must at least sign a one year extension so we can at least sell him when he’s 30 and shattered by his glass leg.

In Arsenè we trust. L.o.l. FOOLS. This what the board and the manager wants to turn our darling f.c too. A laughing stuck. GOD FORBID. I still blame in on the fans in England. Cant they go on rampage and protest.

  13. Red DB 10 says:

So yesterday AW says he does not need any new coaching staff to inspire and get some confidence back in the players.
Today he says we might have to sell four top players because they will not sign an extension to their contract?!
In other words they have no belief in where the club is going and just want to get out!
Wenger needs to see a doctor because he is now beyond senile.
What the hell is he, Gazidis, and the idiots in the board doing to our club?

  14. marc says:

showmaster AW continues his theater, his statements are not worth the paper they are written on, fact is that we will finish mid-table this season due to transfer policy and poor tactical abilities of a stubborn manager, as result there is no team spirit in the squad and the few quality players will look for an issue
    our club needs a revolution

Even with a top four spot our stars might still leave because they came to win a top four spot isn’t a win at least not for our standards plus its not like the club is showing any ambition in the transfer market. All am saying is we shouldn’t be surprised if our top players leave. When you hear people say we might end up becoming a mid table club don’t think that they are hating because it happens all the time.Mismanagement being one of the main reasons I for one don’t feel its right that fans pay such high fees which are not reinvested back into the club and am making my stand I won’t stand for it. I can understand we didn’t have enough money when we moved to the Grove but that isn’t the case now.Our top players will leave if we don’t give them a reason to stay in terms of wages and top quality buys.In the summer Van persie said that he wouldn’t leave us because he wanted to win a trophy that would feel like his own…..I can’t help but wonder if he only said that to set an example to or try to convince Cesc and Nasri to stay, just a thought.Think about it that way people

Red DB 10, he never said that they don’t want to extend a contract… He said that it may be very hard to actually meet their wage demands, or keep them at the club after a shit season. Both of those factors are in the future though, so we will only have to wait. It’s not like they ALREADY want to leave, but if we do worse than last year you cannot expect much.

  19. wellingooner says:

Replace Gazidis and Kroenke with Dein and Usmanov.
POSSIBLY keep Gazidis in to control the marketing of the club and investments that’ll affect it’s future, but Dein needs to be the one in charge of Transfers, making sure we aren’t just attempting to set ourselves up for the future, without paying attention to the problems at present. We may have a brilliant youth team and we may be out of debt soon, but if we fuck up this year and the next, we’ll be far down the table and those young talents will not want to stay will they? And us being out of debt won’t mean shit when that happens.

Sell Andrey and Theo can go to. Replacement for them is Gotze and Hazard. And keep Vela on the team next year. We also have Oxlade and Ryo. Robin should stay. Then sell Squallaci and Djourou. Cahill and Sakho replacement. Vermalen stay! Rosicky replaced by Marvin Martin

TBH Arsenal can actually afford the wages for the calibre of player mentioned in this article. But if some silly club is going to turn their head by offering more than they are obviously worth then just let them go.

Its simple, 2 of these need to be changed, Either the BOARD, Some staffs especially the coaching or medical area(Its strange over the past few seasons, Arsenal have so many injuries and especially to key players! Or The Manager needs to go. But I am hoping the Board will be changed, be abit more ambitious, for goodness sake.

If Arsenal is to compete for title this season, lots of luck is needed, key players performing, new players delivering, Be consistent and less injuries and also 1 or 2 key signings in January if not no chance! And perhaps show Arsenal fans win 5 matches in a row then perhaps we have more belief.

  29. DrumGooner says:

I honestly think the board should shoulder more of the blame than AW. I know Wenger isnt completley blame less, he needs to put greater time into defensive training and organization, but he has stressed for years now that we cannot match the financial muscle of Chelski ManUre and Man Shitty. So he does the only thing he can do which is try to pick up players that are either inexperienced or cheap. Even if we have the money for some big big players, ie. Tevez or Kaka etc we still would have to smash our wage structure which surley is more to do with the board than the manager? If we could have offered Nasri what he was offered by Man C im sure he wouldn’t have moved. It’s sad to say but unless we (or should I say the board) at least increase what we are prepared to pay our guys then I can’t see us attracting the players we need. If you remember at City before they had won anything but had the cash to pay they attracted some top talent. It is more about wages than silverware im afraid. I know we cant match the others pound for pound but we need to offer more for players services.

I still cannot understand why we sold fabregas? He had years left on his contract and we just buckled. Then we didn’t go out and spend the money on a world class replacement? This is crazy! To make things worse spurs held firm and didn’t sell modric. There board knew it would cost them dearly. Now i think they will get 4th and the money that comes with it

£30 million for Van Persie would be fantastic if I thought it would go back into the transfer kitty. I love RVP but he’s getting older and the next injury could see him out for months, how many more long term injuries can he weather and be of use to a team like us? Not sure why Man City would be interested looking at their attacking line up but if there’s any truth to the rumours I think we should sell and replace him with proven quality. Hazard, Cahill and a top draw striker in January? That would be a dream.

    Dear Wenger,

You dont need to be worried. A wise man’s saying goes ” You reap what you sow”. Therefore what ever is happening simply shows that you Youth Policy is backfiring.

Trust me the trend is continuing till you and your beloved Board finally bury Arsenal. Your worries are simply crocodile tears.
