Arshavin and Diaby dropped as Arsenal romp home
There was a new incisiveness about Arsenal last night as Arsene Wenger made some slight changes to the formation of the team.
Everyone was extremely happy to see the captain Cesc Fabregas return to the team and partner Jack Wilshere in midfield for the first time.
You would think that Wenger had been reading Just Arsenal News lately as the readers have been calling for Arshavin and Diaby to both be left on the bench.
Nasri moved to the left of the midfield to replace Arshavin, with Cesc, Jack, Song and Rosicky spread across the field, leaving no room for Abou Diaby.
This adventurous formation showed its worth with four of the five midfielders all scoring, with Chamakh getting one as usual.
Wenger was asked if he was pleased with his pairing of Wilshere and Fabregas.
“Yes, I am convinced it works well together.” Wenger said. “Cesc just came back tonight but Jack has a good maturity level, you never think he’s 18 years of age when he plays. They combine very well. The midfield worked very well tonight.”
The whole team worked well and if Wenger uses the same midfield formation in every other game this season, Arsenal could surely win everything!
And it was great that Shakhtar’s consolation goal was scored by greatly-received Eduardo……..

an easy win for arsenal, we didnt even have to try that hard! I dont know why diaby was dropped, but for whatever reason this formation defiantly worked! I thought diaby had a good game vs Birmingham, but oh well id rather cesc anyday..

afc chazza, i will drop diaby any day, cos he plays scrap this days. And was very selfish and indecisecive in our last match, where we struggled to win, he is not worth it

Funny how when a player perform poorly, we asking the club to sell. Arshavin may not in his best form now, whatever the reason on his form, he is still an important player. Noting that he still play a lot of matches and the form could due to burn-out. When he is good, most cheer, when he is bad, ask to sell him. Who can play consistent all the time without any dipped in form?

I have always advocated for Diaby and Arshavin to the see bench. These guys give us force hopes, they play as if they dont want to win, sometimes one can associate them with a dirty game of match fixing. They are good players but they let us down. But this inconsistency has even made their national teams to flop in matches you couldnt expect them to lose or draw. Hope they will learn a lesson or two. How I wish Jack wouldnt have a ban to face Man City.

Rosicky deserves more chances from now. Diaby and Arshavin has given many chances but failed to live up. Time for them to start from the bench.

We, gooners are happy with the result and happy for Eduardo too. Very emotional indeed.
The team we put work perfectly well.
Our midfield sparkle with the combination of Cesc, Jack & Song. Too bad Jack not able to play against ManCt.
But I think against ManCt, Diaby will play. We need height when playing EPL team, they are good in set pieces.
Hope both team put their strongest. We will dominate for sure.

I like the way we pressed high up the pitch last night and it gave us opportunities to intercept and counter in the opposition’s half, as well as force the backline to hoof it long. We were cohesive defensively last night and that was the most pleasing aspect of the match for me.

Arsanl formation last night was great. Wenger should include Fab, Rosicky, Song, Denison, and Wacolt in the Man city march. I m very optmistic that Arsenal will win the game.

altrough he didn’t have to save many shots I must give credit to Fabiansky. If he continue to save like that we don’t need a goalkeeper. He was perfect against Chelshit and Partizan. The team played great Fab-Wil combination is the youngest and the best in the world. But I am the most happy for Dudu, I really enjoyed when he scored and he showed to emma Paymemore how to celebrate against the club which teach you how to play football.

Great game from the GUNNERS. I think Arsene Wenger is a genius. He is unpredictable, from most of the other Arsenal Blogs that I read before the game yesterday none was able to rightly predicted starting eleven. And lo and behold, AW’s starting eleven were absolutely brilliant. This squad can make City weep, cry, infact lament I mean. More Entertainment yet to come.

the best moment for me was when Eduardo scored and the crowd went quiet for a second. then realised is our very own eduardo and the cheers came. I’ve never heard an away goal be celebrated by home fans. I loved Eduardo, I wish he didn’t leave and I wonder why bender wasn’t the one that was left out. Eduardo has 10x more quality. Eduardo is a gunner forever.

Oooooh my God, how come you can speak for Arshavin like that? As if you forgot Arshavin vs Liverpool… Maybe his form is not the best…but having him on the team(and Diaby), even on the bench, not injured, available at any time…then we have the capacity for winning the so long awaited silverware… Go Gunners!!!

i seriously dont see why a fabrgas song and nasri midfield would not work then put arshavin chamakh and walcott upfront
if you replace chamakh with van persie then that is one scary lineup

i wouldnt get too hopefull. i think arshavin was being rested for the man city game, he was also giving wilshere some game time as he is out for 3 weeks in EPL games now.

the only change we have to do in the team which play the last time is diaby should come in for wilsher and kosl should replace john djuor that is all we have to do
Cesc,Rosicky song and diaby should start. Arshavin should be on the beach for some time he is tired. we can change danilson with diaby in the second half

I think could be criticising Arshavin and Diaby too much. They have been playing a big role in the team spirit-helping add still to the iron. Arshavin may be too tired but he is a weapon esp in difficult matches and on a good day if he is not too tired. Diaby may be a bit selfish but could be instrumental on a very physical game. We expect all tricks from Tevez, technical to physical. I trust AW will get the best possible starting 11. I hope walcott does not start in first half but rather Fabregas since Wilshere is unfortunately on suspension. Nasri and Song are doing very well. Am more worried about more cover at the back for Eboue (making blunders) and Johan (his timings). What do you think
