Arshavin – I’ll be at Barcelona next season, and Clichy wants to join me!
Could it come true?
After all the crazy quotes attributed to the Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin, today we have the craziest of all.
Arsene Wenger said that he was “disappointed” about the Arshavin interview saying that Barcelona were the best team in the world, and he would love to play for them, even if it was for just one season.
But if Wenger was “disappointed” with those words, he is going to go ballistic when he reads the quotes from todays Sunday People!
“I am going to Barcelona in the summer.” Arshavin is quoted as saying. “I have always dreamed about going to Spain and playing for the best team in the world.
”They were unsure about me when I was playing in Russia but I have shown them that I’m the real deal and I know they are ready to talk to me.
“I want to play for the top team and be trying to win every competition, I don’t think you can rate one better than the other, it is all about winning. I want to play for them and that is never going to change.
“I know Gael Clichy would love to play out there as well, and he would work well in their team.
“It would be tough trying to compete with Xavi and Iniesta but that is the competition I want, I don’t want to walk into a team.”
I am personally having problems believing that Arshavin said this, but as it was in a national paper I just have to report it. Here are my reasons for doubting it:
First of all, it sounds like a quote made up to sell papers.
Secondly, Arshavin has admitted he has had an awful season (and was crap against Barcelona), so when exactly did they become convinced he is the “real deal”?
Thirdly, would Arshavin even know what “the real deal” meant?
And finally, the People gives absolutely no indication where they got these quotes from. They don’t say whether it was a from a reporter, or a foreign paper (bad translation perhaps?) or their sister’s mother’s uncle’s nephew!
What do YOU think? Could Arshavin really be that stupid?

time to sell players once again wenger, and then kepe rebuilding the sqaud for the enxt 20 years. Why u think players at man utd like sitting on the bench for years as bench warmers?, yes maybe they get fat wages, but also they keep winning things, wengers policy just leads to players wanting to leave, and then just keep rebuilding. Wenger needs to go, along with the crazy board memebrs, just wanting to fill their pockets, hoping the share price just keeps going up and up, so they can line their pockets, this is why there was no share issue rights when ussmnaov called for one for transfer money, because the board mebers blocked it to keep the share price at extorninate prices. I think evryone has lost the plot at aRSENAL, wenger, asrhavin,board mebers,clichy, they can all fuck of as far as im concerned. i have had enopugh of them all, Diaby can fuck of, along with dnilson,sagna,almunia,fabianski,rosicky,eduardo,all of them. Im just sick of it all now, ive tryed to be patient for these past 5 years, but now its really doing my head in.

If players want to leave, I dont blame them seriously. Look, the current team is all about potential year in, year out. Dont give the crap about injuries – because it’s been a repeated excuse and it gets boring listening to it. A top team must be prepared for the unforseen as well, but wenger jsut stubbornly refused to add during transfer windows – in fact, he turned back on his own words. Are fans nowadays unthinking dumbs expected to believe everything and wait forever?? If Cesc had not been given the extras $$$$$, it’s quite possible for him to levae as well. So, it’s no fault if players want to leave and play for teams that keep winning (Chelsea, Man Utd, Barcelona, etc..) instead of playing in a team that’s falling short alongside some crap teammates – almunia whom wenger praised consistently, denilson, diaby, fabianski, etc… all “still maturing” forever, with a stubborn and self-conceited manager bent on his youth project. You wonder why an “English” giant of a club like Arsenal just would throw away the FA Cup competitions; truth is it’s all about AW’s self-ambition and pride. At this rate, it’s not difficult to understand why many top players would not prefer to come to Arsenal …except for the raw youths hoping to be given chance to play and be trained in a nursery. Arsene Knows but not everything. Chelsea is celebrating, Man Utd with old horses still up there fighting, Haagaland said the truth; even Fulham way below the table is in a Euro final…but Arsenal is still rebuilding…again, after 5-6 years. If this story was true, then you would think that the Russian press would have picked up on it by now as they constantly follow every move by Arshavin. This is not the case. Instead the Russian press is reporting quotes from Arshavin that say that he hasn’t been at his best this year and that he believes that injuries have been a serious problem for Arsenal for the last few seasons (valid points.) He seems to be saying and doing the right things except for this one paper with shaky sources on whether he actually made these comments.

It could be speculation but Arshavin has maintain his statement of his love with Barcelona. He did not play with full potential for Arsenal this season although at his preferred position. His body is at Arsenal but his mind is at Barcelona. That reminds me of Hleb who so keen to move so quickly to Nou Camp. Damn.

Sam, arshavin is 10x the player ade is, you clearly haven’t seen what he’s capable of. Aged 28 this was the first year he’s ever played without a Jan break and he played large portions of it out of position and injured so try to keep some perspective and don’t use your ill-informed bias to force your own agenda.
Just watch him in the red and white next year, he’ll knock your socks off.

Smoke and Fire???
Forget all that first year without a January break and playing out of position BS, he has been moping around all season. I called it during the first home game of the season against Pompey. He played most of the game with his hands on his hips, strolling around the pitch. We dismissed it then but he has been the same most of the season.
He was out of position against Liverpool and, apparently, not properly fit but he managed 4 goals, the last with a lung busting late sprint the length of the pitch. He showed plenty of desire then but not this season.
I don’t want him to leave but if he doesn’t want to be here, then bye – thanks for the memories.
BTW – Joe Cole could do as good a job as Arshavin has this season.

This is the typical mis-translated opportunistic BS that comes out of these russian papers. He probably said something along the lines of “I am going to visit Barcelona on vacation this summer” and they turned it into “I’m transferring to Barcelona this summer”. He has mentioned how he is going to stay in London for a bit, and even how his wife Yulia loves it in London and wants to get British citizenship. I doubt he would go to Barcelona so quickly. Then again, he is 28 and if he wants to go play with Barca, he had better act fast (esp. before he has another bad season at Emirates).
