Arshavin – I’m glued to the bench and may leave Arsenal

Posted on November 09, 2011 by admin

Andrei Arshavin has never been scared to speak his mind, and from his comments over the years you could imagine that he has not been very happy after his first six months at Arsenal.

Now very rarely plays the full 90 minutes of any game for Arsenal, and he has admitted that he’s not very happy with his position as supersub and would have to consider leaving if the situation continued, although it is not in his mind right now.

Arshavin said: “Right now I don’t think about changing clubs. If I will be benched for a very long time, then such an issue might be relevant,”

“I still want to play for 90 minutes, but now I am glued to the bench. I wouldn’t like to play for a Russian club other than Zenit [St Petersburg], and there were no contacts with Anzhi Makhachkala.”

When asked if he had spoken to his manager about his status as a supersub he said there was no chance of getting through to him about footballing matters. “Wenger is a very strict manager.” he said.

“He always gladly helps when there are difficulties off the pitch, but nobody at Arsenal even thinks to talk him into changes when it comes to football issues.

“The answer is obvious to everyone.”

I’m not sure what Arshavin means by that last line. There is one thing for sure if the answer is obvious, then perhaps he should tell us all what the question is? Any ideas?

  1. Travis Bickle says:

If he is saying he wants to play 90 minutes all game, every game, then sell him. There are more players who are younger and hungrier to play for Arsenal.

Arshavin has always impressed me, but his form has steadily declined, and I believe if Arsenal can attract the interests of the millions of pounds floating around in Russia right now, I say take it. I wouldn’t be surprised if 15 mil was offered.

I doubt January would be the right time to set this all in motion, but if the right player is available to fill the gap in January, then set the wheels in motion. Wenger rarely keeps hold of attacking players over the age of 30, so in my opinion Arshavin has only hastened the possibility of his departure at Arsenal.

LW….can anyone think of a player who plays in that position who you would like to see wearing an Arsenal shirt?

    H to the AZARD?

A real shame. Arshavin is a great player who, in recent months, just hasnt been able to reach the form that he began with when he first arrived. Will be a great loss but will make way for wingers such as AOC to cement themselves. G4L

    BULL-TO-THE-S***!

There is no way Arshavin said this after stating a month ago that he feels sorry for the fans because he has been sucking. Another stupid article depicting our team is having problems in the change room.

To add to what i said both walcott and gervhino are in great form so i think if he wants playing time he just needs to get it elswhere not at arsenal if maybe yes but i don’t think at the moment.

As much as I hate to say it, I think its time to get rid of the meerkat.

The only thing he does well these days are his adverts.

Get around 10mil for him and put it towards a younger player. Or save up and get someone like M’Vila, Goetze or Hazard.

Opinions divided. What do you think? Thumb up 8 Thumb down 7

Did anyone remember the goal he has score to barca and last season goals and assists he’s a briliant player. Just now his form isn’t so good..hope he’ll score and assist for important game

  11. Baba says:

I think its time for Arshavin to go. He admitted only recently that his performance at Arsenal has been average at best. With that performance, what Manager would play him for 90 mins when there are other options? Please sell him to the highest bidder and let’s wish him well for the future. Plus he’s already over 30 years old. I think he misses Russia.

Maybe if he starts playing some bloody football and run around abit more then he will get given more playtime. Until then put some bleeding effort in and keep your pie ‘ole shut.

this guy is not a team player – dosen’t know the meaning of ‘tracking back’…
has allowed too many opponents too many free runs…
thinks its hilarious when he mess’s up…

if i wasn’t such a cynic i would say he’s manouevering a move back to russki’ on the cheap (a bit like Tevez – but not quite so blatantly)…

he arrived in the January window – maybe he will depart through the January door…fingers crossed

  17. sam says:

not his fault, arsene should stop hanging on to underperformers.
he performed well in the euros that was longtime ago, he scored 4 goals against liverpool and that was also longtime ago.
why wait till january when miyaichi or chamberlain can take his place? i am not sure we need his experience because he’s not a starter we don’t need his motivation because he doesnt have any. so we are hanging to him for no reason whatsover

Asharvin should return to Zenit if they offer a reasonable price. There is no need to replace him we have more than our fair share of midfielders. Forget Hazard, Wenger will never pay the money it`s only a paper chase.

  24. gunner says:

He describes his manager as a stubborn individual, and believes the Frenchman will only leave when he wants to as he has the full support of the Arsenal board.

“Wenger is a very strict manager. He always gladly helps when there are difficulties off the pitch, but nobody at Arsenal even thinks to talk him into changes when it comes to football issues. The answer is obvious to everyone,”

maybe the reporter asked him if wengers still remaining at the club because of the support of the board ??? he may have meant that as long as the $$$ is made, they will keep supporting wenger, and only wenger makes decision on all footballing matters,no one can question him………thats what i think.

a good thing he wants out.. don’t get me wrong, he’s a great player, but somehow doesn’t perform like he should. we have too many midfielders n i would not expect anyone in before some are offloaded.. not to mention we still have many talented youngsters coming.. i would say sell him if we can get some money back.. go gunners

  29. LoveArsenalLoveWenger says:

he just can’t last for a full 90… IMO he is one of the best subs in the premier league, but when he starts he is a different player in a bad way… if he wants to stay i wouldn’t sell him, he can contribute, but if he expects to start every game and wants to leave otherwise, we should let him leave… i doubt we can outbid real madrid for hazard, so andre awey could be a good choice, and maybe bring him together with his brother jordan who is really talented as well…

Andrei your a good player , but the English league is not for you my friend you just havent adapted to how fast and physical the english premier league is , ive never seen a player lose the ball so much in all my 33 years of following Arsenal , yes you have the odd decent game , but half the time im shouting at you saying things like fucking hell what you doing , or maybe fucking hell you have over run the ball again , or maybe fucking hell youve been muscled off the ball again , yes you scored 4 at anfield , and yes you probably scored one of my fav Arsenal goals of all time , the winner against Barca , but fella you seriously need to jog on as you frustrate me more than walcott !
