Arshavin – I’ve changed, I’ve lost my sparkle….
The little Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin has jusy won the “Best Russian Player” award for August, but doesn’t feel he deserves it, in fact he doesn’t think he has played to his full ability since he arrived in England.
“I am very much surprised,” he said. “If I became No 1 last month that means there were no other significant events. Of course I scored two goals in the three starting matches but that is not enough to win a month’s award.”
“The year and a half in England has significantly changed me,” he continued. “I became calmer, more professional and spend more time with my family.
“As for football I can say that my style has also altered – it is more effective but less sparkling. I don’t remember when was the last time I score a really beautiful goal.
“It’s frustrating. I tried to analyse this, but can find no answers. It is likely that my injuries last year had an affect, because on three occasions I was out for a month, but it is feeble to talk about injuries….”
Andrei Kanchelskis, the former Man Utd and Russia star, also doesn’t think Arshavin deserves the award and is even more critical, in fact he is downright rude about his compatriot! He said: “To start with, Arshavin seldom plays for 90 minutes and is usually substituted in the second half,”
“When he plays each match from start to finish, then we will see.
“In the first match against Liverpool, you didn’t see him in the box. A week later Blackpool conceded six goals, Arshavin took a penalty and scored. But you need to understand the level of the opponent.
“And then Blackburn, who he scored the winning goal against, are far from a top club.
“In my opinion, Arshavin is overrated. He has been praised too much. He hasn’t shown brilliance for a very long time. The main thing is consistency, which Arshavin doesn’t have.”
At least he realises himself that there is something wrong with his game, and can work to find his former brilliance. But has he really been that bad?

we will support you arshavin threw thick and thin youve got it in you to produce brilliance you just need confidence and a consistant run in the side when i watch you play i can tell that you want to take on the defender but your confidence is making that hard for you lets just hope that by the time your 30 you return to form because we all know about arsene wenger and players in thier 30′s

I agree Arshavin hasn’t sparkled since he came to Arsenal, I mean his four goals and performance at Anfield the season before last were boring, bordering on the mundane. Nothing Edward Cullen about any of those goals. His very first goal against Blackburn was highly forgettable too as was his winning goal from nothing against Liverpool last season.
All those close ball dribbles in the box which he has done to provide assists and goals didn’t even have a hint of fabulous off them.
That assist he provided for Walcott for the first goal against Blackpool was definitely overrated, I mean yes he weighed the pass perfectly for Theo but where was the pirouette, he didn’t even try an arabesque penchée.
We don’t want goals, wins, precision passing or player beating close quarter dribbling we want sparkle, we want a big glittery performance, we want our players to wear pink tutus and braid each others hair. That’s what’s important, we want our players to be fabulous!!!

i agree a bit sometimes he shows sparkles of brilliance but noit consistantly, i also think he is not over rated he would get in to all the teams in the premier league and spanish leauge exept real madrid as they allready have two great wingers he would get into barca as they play 4 3 3 and it would be him messi and villa as the front 3

I really like Arshavin. And if he thinks he is going to get better then im excited. If he stays fit all year combained he will score and assist 20-30 goals. Just for Bongo… Thanks for reminding me about that I watched that game with the in laws who are all Liverpool fans. Great moment for me!!! THANK YOU ANDREI!!!!!

i do feel that he has lost his pace and spirit for long time. i hope he will be back like tha arshavin i used to see. overrated and ‘too much praised’ are two things i have to agree.

I think it could have a lot to do with not only the new culture and a more robust style of football but I don’t think we should underestimate the effect of Russie missing out on the world cup had on him.
That hit him realy hard and since then he hasn’t played aswell. He was brilliant when he was first at Arsenal but after that event which was after the goal vs Man united he hasn’t been the same. He looks better now but he needs more time.

This is what happens when you come to a club that used to have ambition to win things.

Andrei can be a dull a soup for all I care as long as he scores 2 goals every three games. I’d be happy if he gets 26 this year and is voted the EPL most boring player!!!!
(Of course everyone now knows by now the translation was a crock)
