Arshavin set for €10m return to Zenit St. Petersburg?

Posted on January 11, 2012 by admin

There have been numerous rumours saying that Andrei Arshavin is now considered surplus to requirements at Arsenal, and the Russian captain has also made it plain that he is worried about losing his place in the national team if he doesn’t play regularly for the Gunners.

The Zenit technical director Igor Korneev admitted last month that he is very keen to take Arshavin home. He said: “I can only repeat that Arshavin is a great player and we have always been interested to bring him back. However we have not made any offer yet”

Arshavin was linked with a move to the newly-rich FC Anzhi last month but he publicly stated he would only return to Zenit if he returned home and it seems that he is now going to get his wish.

The Russian newspaper SportExpress has today reported that Zenit have finally tabled a €10m offer to Arsenal for their prodigal son, and it is fully expected that Wenger will be pleased to accept the offer and let him return with his blessing.

With the arrival of Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, and Thierry Henry now on loan, Arshavin’s chances of first team action are going to be further limited if he remains in London, so it makes sense for Wenger to reduce his “crowded midfield” by at least one in January if this offer is true.

I bet there aren’t many Arsenal fans that would complain if Arshavin leaves???

It would be a welome development for Arshavin, he wants to represent Russia at Euro this year, so he needs to play regularly. Wish him good luck.

By the looks of him week in week out he has lost the desire to play for arsenal, so 10 mil is a good price for an unwanted, uninterested player…
Let hope that AW takes that money & devotes it to a quality defender or 2 & another next big thing…

    Arsenal for life

If reports are true then I would cash in.

30 years old, no drive (although he did try in the FA cup but was blatantly out of position) and hes homesick. I want to see him play well again even if its not in Arsenal colours.

We won’t forget his 4 goals against Liverpool, the winner against Barca, the assists or his blunt honesty… but we won’t miss his current lack of form. All the best AA23!

wentworth’ you are probably getting thumbs down for your english fans comment. without us english fans there wouldnt even be an arsenal. i am sure many fans will agree with your other comments, but wenger is wenger and unfortunately the board is the board. Unless we bring Usmanov in then i am afraid we are going to continue the way we always have done, sell our best players, polish turds and bring and on the youth. its the way the club has worked from the end of the 60S and sure we are not in man united or liverpools league in terms of trophy haul during that period but have certainly been the 3rd most successful club.

To all my fellow gunners, i kindly request you’ll to b respectful to our ex-players or the players who are on the verge of leaving(except the few who criticize & bitch after they leave eg. Na$ri). Pls dnt stoop to Man C lows.

AA23 may nt hv played well of late or for the past 2 seasons. But he did play well at the start(4 @ liv, etc) & also accepted his form of late has nt been good enough. If he wants to go peacefully, let him & respect it! Pls respect all those players who want to leave peacefully. Thank You. AFL.

i would love for him to leave even for as little as 5 million.

but with us not looking like we are going to sign anyone
it would leave us way way short of choice on the left wing
with only gervinho, and his away. that will only leave us with ryo as first choice, who has play round 20 mins of premier league football.
walcott are alex are better on the right side.

i think before we sell anyone
wenger must bring in some players
podolzki would be perfect for us.

Wentworth, you get a thumbs down because people disagree with some or all of what you’re typing. Personally I think your comments are disgusting. Arsenal have been my family team since the 1930′s and we have supported them through thick and thin and let me tell you, we’ve been through far worse times than what we’re currently experiencing. Real fans stick by their teams, they don’t throw their toys out the pram when things aren’t going their way, frankly most of the complainers don’t know how good we’ve got it. I’d rather we were winning things but we’re in transition at the moment with lots of young talent and the most successful manager the club has ever had – people just need to be patient. The people make the club, not the trophies.

    @wentworth
Be sensible man! Firstly saying good ridance to Arshavin is a little strong but saying “English fans are the ones killing Arsenal FC” is total claptrap and you obviously have littel knowledge of the Enlish and the Arsenal!
It is not the board holding Wenger back from signing anyone. Do you really think that if Wenger wanted to pay say 20 million for someone and the board said no, that he would just say, oh ok then? He is the main man there and basically runs the club and surely if refused funds to spend would just say cheerio and be off. I am not criticising Wenger for this as he is his own man and does things his way. We all want to see something change but boycotting games would do nothing but harm the players. As about 90% of the tickets are season tickets and so already paid for how would the club loose revenue. Another reason I am anoyed about your comments is that for every English supporter who boycotts a game there are a hundred others, not only English, queuing up to buy the ticket. Whenever I am there, there are literally hundreds of Japanese, American, African and European visitors to this country looking to pay homage to our great club and it’s good to see that we are such a much loved by the world club.
For goodness sake yes we are going through a very difficult period and if you cannot support through the lows as well as the highs I suggest you follow the other ‘glory seakers’ and go watch Man City or Chelsea ‘buy’ the league.

‘Can’t afford to loose him’, he does nothing, most games he plays he hides from possesion, he is woeful in front of goal these days and isn’t creative enough with his possesion to worth anything. good riddance, only chamakh to go and we’ll be on the road to rebuilding.

I dont know, I still think he has more to offer, if you watched the leeds game you would have seen that he obviously wasnt uninterested, he put in plenty of effort, threw his gloves of and got on with it. He is lacking confidence in front of goal but that will come with more game time. But if he wants to leave- Sell him.

We shouldn’t ridicule Arshavin, at least he doesn’t have an attitude like Nasri, Cole, and the rest who left us for money. And he is not even leaving for that purpose, he knows he isn’t playing well and it is in his best interest to move on. I bet he would shine again at his old club. Best of luck to Arshavin and for some great moments.

One of the many we need to offload off our wage bill , sell squaliachi , chamak , bentner , vela , denilson , diaby, roskiy sell all them and buy 3 or 4 young talented players who are able to duputise for the first team while maintaining and growing in value ! In arsne we trust !

Hopefully he goes back to Zenit since we(Zenit) have a injured midfield at the moment and he will be a great contribution to our russian cup run.

So is someone finally going to take him off our hands? He can’t live on his 4 goals against Liverpool anymore – that ship sailed years ago. Also playing out of position? Are we still trying to use that tired excuse? If you play over 120 games in the same position, you’re no longer ‘out of position’ – you;re just not that good.

Henry did in 7 minutes in an Arsenal shirt what Arshavin was trying to do for weeks since the Swansea game – get a shot on target and score.

Arshavin is a form player, not a class player and he’s been out of form for almost 2 years. He’s not world class, sorry to break it to you. If he was he wouldn’t have been this new thing at age 25 at the Euros – he’d have been recognized long before that, like most world class players have been.

Best of luck to AA23 when/if he returns to Zenit (unless of course he ends up playing against Arsenal). I’ve always liked Arshavin, just thought he lacked a little desire and composure at times. Alex O-C is dying for first team opportunities and I think it’s time for him to shine.

Am I the only one that is sad to see a world class player leave.. Can’t blame the guy for wanting to leave, when we signed him he was a second striker playing down the middle .. Wenger has not got the best out of this guy .. Playing him on the left wing is ridiculus.. Obviously it hasnt worked.. Fair to say his form has dipped recently.. It’s going to when he gets played 10 mins a game !! And the fans get on his back- guys have a look at this guys goal/assist ratio i think only rvp is better! Good luck arshavin .. Top player..

I have always been a huge fan of Arsharvin… Quick, keeps the ball close to his feet, but recently loses the ball after getting in to good positions. He has just hit a bad patch. It may be a good idea to sell him before he is too old and leaves on a free though.

No one should bad-mouth him, he is just out of form. He has done a lot for the club. If he does leave, we should remember him for what he did for the club (i.e 4 goals against liverpool!), and not for how out of form he is now!

Arshavin might leave at the end of the season but not now. He will be first choice now that Gervinho is at the African nations cup. I think Arshavins biggest ever mistake was scoring those 4 goals at anfield. After that people expected miracles from him. He still has alot to offer Arsenal. What about his nice assist for Van Persie’s goal against QPR? which was the only game we won over christmas. Also we lost to Fulham and there was no sign of Arshavin LOL. I think Arsenal fans should be looking at players like Theo and Gervinho who have very poor football intelligence. The OX is good but he could be another Theo which is a worry.

I think we need shot of TW14 too for decent money before other teams realise quite how poo he is!
The Ox is already looking better than Walcott. Ship Walcott and Arshavin for Hazard, and have him and Gervinho as your wingers with the Ox for another option/cover.

Sounds good huh? Bish Bash Bosh.
