Bacary Sagna to play on with screws in his leg, and is missing a trophy!
The Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has been out since the early-season loss to Tottenham and he has now revealed that he is close to rejoining the squad, but will only be able to come back if he leaves the screws in his leg that were put in to help his bones knit together.
“I was told I would spend three or four months out and I am on schedule.” Sagna said.
“I have resumed jogging and I should kick the ball again in the coming days.
“I have screws in my leg but I don’t think I will have them removed. That would mean another two months on the sidelines.”
Arsenal can hardly afford to lose Sagna for any longer to have the screws removed, and at the end of the season he will be moving on to the Euro2012 tournament with France so it may be some time before before he can have the operation.
The left-back also revealed his frustration at the drought of trophies in his career. He said: “When you are so close to something, like the League Cup with Arsenal, it brings you down with a bump,”
“From that moment we started to fall off. We were so disappointed, fans were disappointed. We lost trust.”
“I would like to win something, either with France or with Arsenal. I miss trophies a lot, it is frustrating.”
It is just as frustrating for the Arsenal fans as it is for the players, and the longer that the Gunners remain trophyless, the harder it will be to attract quality players to the club. And if Arsenal fail to reach a Champions League place you can be sure that both Walcott and Van Persie will leave, and the downward spiral will only accelerate.
Get well soon Bacary and lets get that trophy in the cabinet as soon as possible……

I have a lot of respect for Arsene Wenger, he is a very intelligent man, but one aspect gets to me….he`s a `ditherer`. Having studied economics myself (not very well)for a short period in my life I can`t imagine someone with a Masters degree in the subject being anything but ultra cautious. Like most people who have accumulated money he finds it hard to spend, it gives him a sense of security and well being. So, anyone who thinks that Wenger will become the Big Spender had better think again.

@ Aussie Jack
Remember that Wenger is a coach not an investor or financier! The money side comes from the board. Wenger does make his recommendations, and yes most of the times it’s based on a player’s quality not quantity in how much he’s worth. You can’t blame Wenger as he has produced many great talents and rescued many players with dipping form. Needless for me to name players as I’m sure you already know. I understand your frustration with not signing world class players as I feel the same, but who was to know how good the Invincibles would become after Wenger rescued some players’ careers by bringing them to the Gunners. Pires, Vieira, Henry are perfect examples. Now who’s to say we can’t do the same? In time, things will pan out to work for Wenger. it’s hius exceptional coaching talents that binds a team together. In Wenger I trust!

Sagna is screwed! Dam, if he plays there must just be no chance of making it worse, otherwise its not worth it, what an unfortunate way he got injured, and we all want trophies! Wat more can I say…

Gotta agree with nd. Us fans must rise up against the board and owner to kick them all out. Let’s face it wenger has is the best manager in arsenals history. However when you have a s*** board who don’t supply money what do you expect

we need sagna as soon as possible, djourou is just a big problem in the team,or better still wenger should sign a very good right back or central defender like vertogen,so that kolsieny can help that position until sagna is back

enough with the excuses, is it the board thats telling him wenger to make bad selection every week? hands up if you believe chamakh is better than park or walcott is better than chamberlain. forget ryo miyaichi, he’s the new vela he will never get a game at arsenal.
lastly hands up if you think arshavin is top quality or almunia is top keeper.
wake up! arsene wenger doesn’t wanna win anything, he only wants 4th place.
look at our bench against fulham!almunia, squillaci, rosicky, benayoun, arshavin, chamakh…. wow! i was praying that we go at least 2 up before halftime. or there will be trouble.

If he played with one leg, he would still be better than some of the players we have in the squad at the moment!

Theo needs to put his head down and work harder than he ever has at learning to play that final ball. He needs to find some serious consistency. Against Fulham was as bad as I’ve ever seen him.

I agree@Sam. That bench at Fulham was down right scary! Arsene is great manager, he has been to the top, he forget more football then we the fans know all together. However, what goes up must come down. We have a big squad but it needs refreshing badly. We have youngesters great ones but we can’t give them a chance because they either not ready or our need for trophy is keeping them out. We have out of form player some are important to our success as a team (Arshavin, Chamakh, park) some essential (Rosicky, Diaby) and some just need to go (Almunia, Vela, Bendther, squillachi). Injuries limited us severely it is so bad it can not be an excuse anymore because we have to plan for them (by preparing young lads and buying a cover). We would have had a better season than we are having now. If Jack didn’t get injured preseason, Diaby could have contributed for few more games, and Sagna did break his leg freakishly! Ramsey would have been forced to share minutes with Arteta. Jack Diaby and Rosicky will have maned the CAM and song would have gotten rest because the quality available for DM (Jack/Diaby/Frimpong and Coquelin). The defense would have been great with the proper addition s of Santos, Per and the coming back of TV5. Attacking addition of Gervinho would have been good enough. We the gunners are both unlucky, unprepared and most importantly unrealistic in terms of our expectations. Having said all that I’m a proud gunner and know that our day will come.

Why did we sign park and AOC? Why did we call back Ryo? Why does walcott feel he’ll be missed when gone? Why isn’t Arshavin in Russia?

1 – I don’t think RVP and Theo will leave because of being out the Champs for 1 year, when Arsenal have kept them in it for most of their career.
2 – Bring Eboue back.

Regardless of how bad things are without a right back I am worried about Sagna playing with the screws in his legs.
How bad is Jenkinsons back injury is he also months away from a return to the squad?

for the benefit of his health, lets hope he puts himself first before Arsenal. He’s been a loyal ambassador for the club, don’t rush back yet, take your time no matter how much we need you.
As for trophies we 100% need one this year, I’m pretty sure its going to be the deciding season for a lot of our squad, I dare think what will happen if we don’t.

Arsenal can win trophies. The problem of Arsenal is Arsene Wenger. Last season, we would have won the premier league if he had streghthened the defense in January. This year we can also win something at least the FA cup if he stregthens the attack and defense. He will do neither of these and will dance around until the transfer window is closed. See him, he is looking for players on loan. It’s unfortunate for Arsenal fans and some of the players to have such a manager.

I suffered a complete fracture of my tibia in July 2011 when I nipped the ball away from an opponent who was about to shoot. Rather than pulling out, he seemed intent of taking me down. Hearing you own leg snap is a horrible sound and feeling. I know what Sagna and Ramsey felt.
Worse than that is the rehabilitation period. My operation cost Twenty Thousand Pounds and I had titanium inserted inside my whole Tibia similar to Sagna and screwed.
It’s called Tibial Titanium Intramedullary Nailing.
Link to show the procedure. Take a look. It’s an amazing procedure to see what can be done nowadays. You have a break down your calf and they make one incision in the knee to insert the rod.

My point is that even if you have the best post operation care, (obviously I have to work) Sagna gets the 6* treatment, your leg feels weird. I haven’t yet started running. It took a long time to walk and I still feel pain and aches. Especially when the weather is cold.
I wonder if it will ever feel the same. I propose to have the reversal operation in 2 years time to remove the titanium rod so the bone marrow can fill my bone where the rod is and the screws can be taken out. Only then will my leg feel normal i hope.
So Sagna should only come back when he feels totally ready as running is one thing but the stresses of turning twisting, kicking and tackling are completely different so dont be surprised or upset if he isn’t the Sagna of old.
