Bob Wilson – Szczesny has the quality and the personality!
The young Pole Wojciech Szczesny has been given his chance at Arsenal and had already proved his worth before injuring his finger. The Gunners’ legend Bob Wilson is sure that he has the quality to be one of the all-time greats at the Emirates.
Wilson said: “I love his brashness and personality, just like I love Joe Hart’s.
“Wojciech has huge ability and what you need at the top level. He has height – he’s 6ft 5in tall – and a dad guiding him.
“He’s going to make mistakes. He was culpable for the Carling Cup Final, but Koscielny should have cleared it. And he could have been sent off after five minutes.
“But he has the character to come back and recover from that. He’s got the belief and the most important thing is that the other players can see his quality.
Manuel Almunia is currently between the sticks, and Wilson is sure of his ability, but he doesn’t have that extra confidence-building assurance that Szczesny has.
Wilson continued: “Manuel is a very sensitive guy and he knows he’s made mistakes, but he’s also a very solid goalie.”
“However, if you play for Arsenal, Manchester United or Chelsea, you have to step up to the mark. There is a history, an expectation, and you’ll get it thrown in your face – Jack Kelsey, Bob Wilson, Pat Jennings, John Lukic, David Seaman and Jens Lehmann.
“They are big shoes to step into, but it doesn’t worry Wojciech – he has the personality.”
Szczesny is still only young, but he looks like he is going to make it to the very top. Maybe he can win Arsenal a trophy next season…….
