Bolton’s potential threat to Arsenal tonight can’t be ignored

Posted on October 25, 2011 by admin

Sitting uncomfortably in 18th position in the Premiership table after winning just two of their last nine league games, Bolton have been regarded by some as a fairly simple challenge for Arsenal in tonight’s Carling Cup fourth round.

However, the rumoured line-up for the Trotters looks anything but easy to beat. Despite apparently planning up to eight changes, Owen Coyle is still set to play the likes of David Wheater, Mark Davies and Ricardo Gardner, the latter in particular excelling in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the previous round of the same competition. Ex-Gunner Fabrice Muamba will undoubtedly prove to be a tough opponent for Frimpong in the middle of the park and Ivan Klasnic – although not prolific – is capable of the occasional touch of class.

Out on the wing, Chris Eagles has provided two goals and two assists in just nine appearances for Wanderers. Andre Santos will have to make sure he tracks back, or that flank could be under considerable threat. On the opposite wing, Martin Petrov has cemented his place as a similarly menacing presence, although his recent displays suggest laziness is also a big part of his game.

It is beyond any doubt that Arsenal are the favourites for this contest, both in terms of squad strength and form – six wins in the last seven games for the Gunners – but if Shrewsbury can score at the Emirates, so can Bolton. It would be hugely pessimistic and surely incorrect to label tonight’s opponents as equals to Wenger’s men, but Coyle’s clan will undoubtedly be more of a danger to Arsenal than some might think.

The last round of the Carling Cup saw them win away against a fairly strong Aston Villa side without conceding – will Arsenal’s young squad prove to be a significantly bigger test to Bolton than Villa’s near full strength side.

park has left me wondering why wenger hasn’t used him in the league games… he’s a bit like RVP n tested Bolton’s GK on many occasions.. n scored a nice goal.. hope to see him more in the near future..

I think wenger keep Park to replace Chamakh who will go for african cup next year. So atleast we have 1 striker who is fully fit for the next half of the season.

park is so darn good, and arshavin has slowly found his form. If the team continues to play like this, silverware is a guaranty. Just can’t wait for manchester city game, let’s take down their confidence with a win. Our reserve players has proven their worth, and they’re surely one of the best in the league.

On a second look, Park’s goal reminds me of Henry’s. The sweet curling ball is so irresistible, unstoppable … It’s an art by itself, not just a goal. Arsene has found another jewel.
