Bougherra linked with Arsenal again
The Rangers defender Mahjid Bougherra was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates last summer when the Gunners were desperate for an experienced centre-back.
Arsene Wenger made a special point of praising the Algerian international at the World Cup last year, but Bougherra’s contract didn’t allow him to leave Ibrox.
Now he is ready to leave Scotland and is really keen to return to the Premiership again, and according to Setanta, Arsenal are once again the most likely club to give him the opportunity. He certainly has the strength and experience that Wenger keeps talking about!
Bougherra told the media that his intention is to move on, but he had no wish to leave on bad terms with Rangers or their new manager Ally McCoist after his successful time at the Scottish giants.
He said: ”My focus is still on the Premier League. I played there for six months with Charlton and I want to go back as six months isn’t a long time.
”I’ve spoken to Coisty and told him that if there is a new challenge which excites me then I’d like to take it. He understands my position.
”I have told him the truth because I respect him. He knows me, he knows what I need and he knows I have a good relationship with the club but if I go, I’d have to go cleanly.
“I don’t want to lose what I have built up.”
Do Arsenal fans think Bougherra would make a solid partner for Thomas Vermaelen?

I am a Rangers fan and watch Bougherra every week and as much as I don’t want him to leave I think he would be a great signing for Arsenal. I mean, yeah he can go on his runs at strange times and does occassionally attempt stupid things on the ball but his quality far outweighs his faults. People making stupid comments that he’s shit and he’s only big, should watch a player week in week out before making comments like that.

He would be a better buy then Samba because he is more experienced – as at least he has played in the champions league and for a team that has won things. He is more of a ready made solution then Samba.
As Samba will need time to get his fitness up and need to improve if he is going to play in the champions league.
But, personally – both are weak and I wish we were linked to much better but, it seems Wenger is just looking for somone to make up the numbers, as Kos and Verm will be in the starting lineup next season.

I believe there is nothing wrong with our defenders. Our WAY of defending is the problem. It is only in Arsenal that even defenders play entertaining soccer! Change that phylosophy & see what happens. The other matter is strength of character. That is why I prefer Sakho to names like Cahill, etc. How I wish we can get Daniele de Rodsi as well. We must remember the 8/25 rule though.

i think kosh is a great player for champions league, he was are best defender in both ties against barca. but we need a solid cb with prem experience and nothing less will do! samba is that man end off!
and what twat on hear keeps saying he needs to get his fitness up what are you on son ? hes one of the fittest athletes in the premier league and hardly ever misses a game, why the bloody hell do you keep making reference to his fitness as if it would be an issue?
