Carlos Vela not interested in Arsenal return

Posted on February 08, 2012 by admin

The young Mexican striker Carlos Vela was considered one of Arsenal’s hottest young prospects just a few years ago, but Arsene Wenger never seemed to trust him enough to be a regular first-team player despite some excellent performances when given a chance.

He certainly managed to annoy Wenger at times (remember the time he forgot his passport when he was set to fly for a Champions League match?) and last January Vela and his agent managed to scupper a loan deal with Bolton when Wenger specifically wanted him to join a Premiership team.

But instead he went to Real Sociedad in Spain on loan, and although the Spanish club don’t have the cash to make a good offer for Vela, the Mexican wants to remain in Spain for the forseeable future.

Vela said: “I don’t want to return to Arsenal. I have asked my agent to negotiate with Arsenal to stay here.”

Many Arsenal fans petitioned for Vela to be played ahead of Nicolas Bendtner in past times, but it now seems they will have to accept that he won’t be playing in Arsenal’s colours ever again…..

What a joke. Come next season we won’t have any strikers lol.

    RVP Gone.
    Bender Gone.
    Vela Gone.
    Chamakh useless and probably gone.
    Park wants to go.

Which leaves Theo upfront? With Gervinho and Ox for wingers. Which does actually sound good. Especially as Theo will get the position he wants. Meaning he will play his best.

But still no one to back him up and Poor transfer dealings from Wenger. Just doing it for profits.

  4. Travis Bickle says:

If I’m honest I think it’s time for Vela to move on. Especially if he is declaring that he is not interested in playing for Arsenal.

I had high hopes for him, but I believe there are more talented, and driven 23 year old strikers out there. At the time he was 18 yrs old, I thought he would be something special, but that was 5 years ago and he has just not lived up to his potential. Whether it be because he doesn’t want to play for Arsenal, or was never given a chance by Wenger.

He is obviously not part of the first teams plans, and is now 23, an age which should spell first team football. Allow him to leave and replace with a young prospect. Sturridge would be amazing, for example.

    That means selling,

    Vela, Bendtner, and Denilson.

I know other fans will list about 20 more people, but these 3 have stated a clear desire to not want to play for Arsenal anymore. I imagine, combined these three earn close to 100k a week.

Vela, simply a promising star but u can’t get idea chamack is there and vela loaned, bendtiner out, chamack there, we have resourses in foolish hands who cant manage them.

Im sorry guys.. you cant slam a player like arshavin for how he has been playing, then praise vela who had actually been pretty mediocre when hes played for us, hes not big enough or imposing enough to play in england. hence why he wants to play in spain, im sorry, stop acting as if hes a god. you people are just looking for an excuse to slam wenger, let the useless player go

  9. Travis Bickle says:

On the subject of Arshavin he cost us 15mil and has been at Arsenal for 3 years now, 1.5 years he was amazing. And he was roundly booed a couple of weeks ago.

Carroll cost liverpool 35million has been there for almost a season, he is never booed by the liverpool fans.

Torres cost 50million and been there for almost a season, he has never been booed by the Chelsea fans.

Both of these teams are in exactly the same position in the table as us. So how is it Arshavin takes the blame for our form? and not Carroll at Liverpool and Torres at Chelsea?

    Shocking isn’t it?

  10. Gooner C T says:

AW has some serious plotting to do. Get rid of Vela, Chamakh, Squillaci, Bendtner and Arshavin and then have all in place for the likes of Hazard (a must,) Podolski, Vertonghen,Gotze, Samba, M Villa etc.His last 5 months will be hectic as we can’t be caught napping again, during transfer window in July. The other serious sides will snap up the great players that we need.

  14. Nick says:

There’s been a lot of promising Mexican players who have a flash of brilliance and never really materialize into better players. Vela & Dos Santos (where is he now… Spurs?) come to mind. He’s not a bad player but he’s never gonna be a #1 striker anywhere. He needs to be playing in a 4-4-2 where he’s paired up with a stronger & bigger striker (poacher style) who can compliment his speed.

I don’t care who they are, the second a player says something like “I don’t want to go back to Arsenal” or what Bendtner or Dennilson said, they should never be allowed back on general principle. No one player is bigger than the club. Almunia, Djourou, Bendtner, Vela, Dennilson, Squid, Diaby have all passed their “sell by” date.

who can blame carlos vela for not wanting to come back to arsenal . after the way wenger treated him, especially wenger putting the likes of the crap trio. bendtner, chamahk, and asrshavin ahead of him, carlos. was by far a better striker than the 3 dumbigos. good luck carlos, may u have all the luck where ever u go, but i for one would love to see u back at the emirates.

    @goonersal

“Arshavin do not get booed, the crowed booed the decision of taking one of the best players off, chamberlaine!”

If you honestly believe all of the people who booed that game (lets say 10000 out of 60000 people booed, for sake of argument) all booed for exactly the same reason, you are sorely mistaken.

There have been obvious grumblings on this forum about Arshavin’s poor form, and I don’t believe for one second that everyone who was booing, was booing the substitution. As we now know, Chamberlain was taken off as a precaution for injury. So now you say you booed that decision. So if he was left on and pulled his hamstring, you would probably be saying something along the lines of “all our young players get injured, they are all injury prone! Just look at Wilshere, Gibbs, Jenkinson. Why didn’t he take him off?”

He took him off because he is 18, that was his debut, and he signalled to come off. So you booed Wenger for protecting a player you now think is top class, and at the same time destroyed Arshavin’s confidence. Who has not stepped on the pitch since….

If you were there which I doubt you were, and seem to be speaking for a vast number of people you have never spoken to that argument still is not something to proud of.

There is no argument, which makes booing a substitution or booing an individual player a good thing.

I read the interview in spanish and he never said that, here what he told
“It is too early to talk about these issues, but I do not close the door to Real. But, if you cannot reach an agreement with Arsenal, you cannot do anything,”

“As I said, I’m happy here and would like to help the team stay up. Then we’ll see what happens in the summer. Right now, we cannot do anything even if we wanted to.”

  27. Tristan says:

Another promising player. but we can not expect every promising player delivers and can not judge a player based on impression rather not overall performance. I do believe Vela was given his chance at Arsenal but couldn’t grab it. and He didn’t really stand out when he was loaned to WBA. Even in spain, he is not irreplacable. so if he wants to go, we wish his good luck!

  28. Arsenal1Again says:

Scuppering the loan to a Premiership team like Wenger wanted is enough for me, get rid of the arse’ole. To scupper the deal because he has made friends in Spain, because it’s hotter there, because he simply wants to play there is -> highly unprofessional and disrespectful to Wenger. Can you imagine Jack saying after what the club has done over the years, “I’m not returning to Arsenal because my mates are here at Bolton.”

Did Miyaichi say the same rubbish when he was in Holland?

If Vela returns, he’s just going to be a sulk, so get rid.

Fran Merida springs to mind .. remember him?

Vela is the most mismanaged and underrated player in Arsenal. He could have been great but was never given a chance. Bendtner had many more chances and stuffed it all up. I hope Vela finds a new home where he can develop his career. It’s a shame he will never succeed at Arsenal.

I believe Vela did not show the discipline required at this level for Wenger to take him seriously. Ryu puts in the effort and has professionalism and shows more promise than Vela did already. There’s a new lot of promising youth coming through and they do look more promising.
