Victor Wanyama is an international midfielder for Kenya who signed for the Scottish champions, Celtic, from the Belgian club Beerschot AC last summer. His performances have drawn the attention of some big clubs, including Arsenal, and Celtic have prepared a new and improved contract to keep him in Glasgow but the player has not signed it.
Neil Lennon is desperate to keep the powerful and combative midfielder but may find it difficult. He was Man of the Match in Celtic’s heroic Champions League game against Barcelona this week and that will increase his value and the likelihood of a move to a bigger club and a better league.
Manchester United are thought to be very keen on Wanyama, and they could be the main rivals to the Gunners in the hunt for his signature. Arsene Wenger may be concerned that the big Kenyan is too quick to dive in to challenges and get himself booked, but he is only 21-years old and still learning his trade.
Wanyama was strong and tireless against Barcelona, and nearly drove Celtic to a famous result until Jordi Alba scored a winner in the 94th minute. He achieved this without resorting to strongarm tactics and showed that he could turn out to be a world class holding midfielder. At 6ft 2in, he could add serious presence and steel to the Arsenal team and could be the subject of a bid in January.
