Celtic to beat Rangers to Phillipe Senderos?
After all the rumours surrounding the Arsenal defender Phillipe Senderos linking him with Everton and Real Zaragoza amongst a host of other clubs, it now seems that the Scottish giants Celtic are set to pip their great rivals Rangers to the Switzerland international’s signature.
According to today’s Scottish Sun, the Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell spent yesterday in talks with Senderos’ agent, and they are now very close to securing a deal.
They say that Arsenal have agreed to pay some of his wages for the next six months to oil the arrangement, and with Tony Mowbray desperate to shore up his defence, the agreement will suit both sides perfectly.
Senderos is keen to keep his place in the Switzerland team for the World Cup, and said last week: “I want to go. I need to be playing ahead of the World Cup and I don’t want to play in the reserves any more. I really just want to leave.”
The Scottish Sun ended the report by saying that they “understand BOTH Celtic and Rangers were offered the player, but Gers baulked at his £30,000-a- week wage demands. Arsenal will pay some of his salary and that has tempted Mowbray into a move.”
So has Senderos finally got his wish!
