Chamakh shambles – Maybe he’s staying after all….
On the morning that Marseille were seemingly willing to take him off Arsenal’s hands, Wenger has assured Marouane Chamakh that he has a future at the club.
The past week has seen the Moroccan linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Lille and former club Bordeaux and the addition to that list of last week’s Champions League opponents Marseille looked to expand his options of a next club even further. With just two goals in his last 31 appearances, his form in England is a far cry from his goalscoring achievements in Ligue 1.
It was therefore perhaps surprising that Wenger said, “Marouane is not going anywhere. There is not a problem with Chamakh… He is fighting for the position with Robin Van Persie who is in great form at the moment. He will get his chance; there are so many games at the moment”.
In response, the striker commented, “I love this club and I will do all I can to be a success here with Arsenal, I am working hard to reach my level”.
This industrious attitude doesn’t always seem to appear on the pitch, though. Even Bendtner has shown signs of more productivity than him at times and at least the Dane seems to want to prove a point. Chamakh just seems content at netting £55,000 each week whilst Wenger maintains his certainty that he will play a more significant role at some point.
Having received the player on a free transfer, would it not be excellent business to sell him on for £10m-£15m? He could be our only target man option – especially if Bendtner keeps to his word and doesn’t come back – but does he really suit the Arsenal style anymore? Is Wenger right to want to keep him?

Why are we so super excited about our most recent signings…. this year we are “park park” everywhere… last year it was “Chamakh Chamakh”… Its is clearly understandable that the mid field is finding it’s feet together as a unit and Van persie doing no harm in playing superbly in his “purple patch” as a sole striker…… i don’t see that to continue for all the matches this season… Chamakh + Persie (or park in the free role) is in scheme of things in near role… So chamakh is indeed going to play his part this summer… and please refrain from comparing him to the tree at sunderland …. Don’t forget our boy from sociedad!!!!

Wenger is destroying chamakh career, chamakh style will never fit arsenal one … the problem here is that Mar1 is a humble guy.

Completely agree with Airijit. I would like to se Park play too and he wil get his chance. We have not seen him in training so we don’t know how he is adapting to the Arsenal way. Le boss has! Why headline this article as a Chamakh shambles? He is a good squad player and very decent back up. It’s always that last year’s hero is this year’s villain! People on here are always so quick to criticise and I would like to see Ryo too but please keep up, he is injured at present or certainly was. We are in a bit of a dog fight at the moment and until we can breathe a little easier it is not the right time to blood kids and others from a completey different culture. Please everyone stop being so angry and negative. Support our tram or piss off!

Listen Malik. The whole talk about departures and uncertainty is what have us in this position. Wenger just wants to maintain some stability in the club at the moment. Park will get his chance so to will ryo, but if you sell chamakh we will only have 2 recognised strikers and knowing Robin’s fitness issues that will be a massive risk. Yes the formation does not suit chamakh but I am certain that if we played 2 up front with Van persie playing deeper we would see the best of Chamakh.

Park won’t get his chance and he’ll be the next Junichi Inamoto. There are even rumours that Arsenal want Moussa Sow (another striker). The only way for him to be noticed by his own manager is for S. Korea to beat France in a friendly, with him netting a hattrick.

screw Park, let Chamakh play and hell be fine. he scored in PL last time he played so lets give him another chance before writing him off.

umm i think he’s right. while VP is on form why would u play chamak let alone park. our last few games have been so close that expecting park or chamak to pull through for us and give a spectacular performance is just TOO RISKY!!! what would u do if park got a game in and we lost that game, your joy over seeing park is far less satisfying that a win, considering our terrible start to the season. it’s just a matter of time before VP gets injured (i hope it dont happen) and on top of that we nearing the period when fixtures are closer together, wenger will play them then.

As I posted on the Theo blog. Why is it that Arsenal seem to persist with players that wouldn’t get into any other top 4 club. Theo, Arshavin, Chamakh, Rosicky, Denilson, senderos etc.. these are or were just average players. Even average players command high wages and so why have them racking up our wage bill and producing very little. Why is AW and the board happy to pay these guys when they won’t spend on attracting 2 or 3 big names. If we want to finish top four we need fresh blood and top quality fresh blood. And perhaps a plan B when things are going wrong.

Some of you read to far into it. How often does a manager say he wants to sell a player? If he did that will give you only one option.
He has to say what he has said.
