Chelsea fancy Walcott – Would he go?

Posted on November 14, 2011 by admin

Following the likes of Juventus and Barcelona, Chelsea are reported to have targeted Arsenal pace merchant Theo Walcott for the second time after having shown interest in the player earlier this year.

Arsenal fans have often grown frustrated at his lack of impact at times, often unable to finish with a direct-enough cross or shot after having completed his trademark sprints past the defence. Walcott feels that he is being played out of position on the wing, but these kinds of runs do suggest that he has the potential to outclass even the best full-backs. He has certainly proved this, boasting the majority of assists for Robin Van Persie’s century of goals, and the apparent £25 million the Blues are willing to spend on the Englishman does highlight his class.

If a move does materialise, it would be interesting to see how Andre Villas Boas deploys the 22 year-old. The 4-3-3 formation played by Chelsea would allow him to slot in on the wing – as Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge already do – but Theo Walcott could well be unwilling to spend yet more seasons in a position that he feels does not showcase his undeniable ability. It seems unlikely that he would be given a space at the front of the forward three and, even in a different formation, the likes of Drogba, Torres and most probably Sturridge would still be preferred up-front.

Arsène Wenger has so far refused to give Walcott much opportunity to play in his preferred position but ,after having been converted from a striker at Southampton to a winger at Arsenal, a move away could reduce his chances even more.

Does Walcott have more of a chance of developing as a player – and into the one that he wants to become – at Arsenal or somewhere else?

Nah. He wouldn’t look good in a Chelsea, Barcelona, and Juventus kit. He is a true gunner with Arsenal DNA. UP THE GUNNERS!

funny, people keep saying he has no football brain but big clubs keep asking about his availability. i think he should just focus on building his career with arsenal- a club that believes in his potential

I don’t think we would want to sell but knowing Gazidis and the greedy shareholders you never know if the price is extravagant enough.
Us fans can say that we want him at Arsenal for years but unfortunately we are not the ones calling the shots.
As for Walcott himself its a tricky one to call whether he would want to leave because he might actually get the chance to play as a striker if he plays under another manager.
I just wish we could give the lad a chance up front where he always played before coming to Arsenal.

@Evan theo is a liverpool fan, but just look at carragher, i think he was a everton fan, and yet he became a legend at anfield… he is english and thats important, unlike narsi, theo knows that he simply can’t go to a team like cheslea or city, without being tough of as a peace of shit…

this is a very hard situation for all concerned, theo is an out and out striker of that there is no doubt, he has uncatchable pace and is a good finisher on the rare occasions he gets through the middle and one on one with the keeper.

we can all debate wether hes good enough but the truth is he believes himself that he is a striker so he will never be happy untill he achieves this and if arsenal dont give him the chance it will eventually force his hand to leave.

the calibre of the clubs chasing him and the money they would pay should surely get us all atleast thinking about this situation, other top clubs see his deadly potential as a striker so why dont we ? we have to atleast give him a chance bcoz if he goes to another club and becomes a 20 to 30 goal a season striker it will be the biggest dissapointment and waste of time ever seen at this club, after all the club and fans have put into theo we cant just let him go without ever trying him in his real position. for the love of god wenger give theo half a dozen games upfront and vp a good rest and just bite the bullet. with the current form of the team and the fixtures coming up its now or never surely? also get it done before jan transfer window so we no wether theo could cover vp if needs be or wether we have to buy!

no good finding out in feb or march theo cant cover vp and all we have is an out of sorts chamakh and a totally untried and tested park! think ahead wenger and stop reacting when its already gone tits up!

i don’t think he shall dazzle upfront in the middle of striking force. i have seen him play in that area and the outcome wasn’t promising. he is an asset to arsenal- Chelsea can has the guts to explain this than i can do. but with the rise of oxlade and miyachi, arsenal need to get rid of this young star to buy somebody who can play behind van persie- somebody like dennis bergkamp i propose. that is how if our 4-3-3 fails, then we can go for 4-5-1. currently we have more wingers than we anticipate. 25 m is a big deal. take it wenger and use the money to pay van persie so that he can stay. advice though.

Wolcott has been getting a regular start this year.
If, down the road, he complaints that he is not making enough starts, it would be because he has not done his job.
For now, he is playing well. Stop giving the ball away. Stop running straight at defenders and loosing teh ball.

Plzzz let walcot go, as fast as he is their are players that offer far more then him. The likes of hazard and podolski playing in that postion is far greater then what walcot could offer. So 25 mill in the bank even more money for Wenger to play with !!!

This has nothing to do with the article but man have you guys seen Ukraine vs Germany? That kid Konoplyanka is dope!and he plays in Ukraine, I really think Wenger should make a move for him before the euro because we might miss out on something special! (hes only 22 as well) creative and with a lot of pace

Before any player thinks of leaving Arsenal, they should reflect on Hleb, Mathieu Flamini, Emmanuel Adebayor and recent departures of Samir Nasir and Gael clichy.all these guys left arsenal contemptuously because of either gaining fame or greed for money.the likes of hleb, flamini and adebayor careers ended up being a total frustration. The likes of Nasir and clichy had guaranteed first team start up when they were in arsenal, but uv witnessed them coming in as substitutes in the die minutes of the game.arsenal players watch out, we need to always see the true sportsmanship like that of Thiery Henry reign.
