Chelsea to rescue Arshavin from his Arsenal nightmare?

Posted on December 28, 2011 by admin

The little Russian maestro Andrei Arshavin has not looked very happy playing for Arsenal every time he has appeared on the pitch this season, even though Arsene Wenger has given him numerous chances to make an impact off the bench, and according to the Metro he has dropped behind Yossi Benayoun and Thomas Rosicky in the pecking order at the Emirates.

Arshavin is now seriously worried that he may lose his place in the Russian team for next summer European Championships despite working as an ambassador for his country in their World Cup bid last year.

But the man who helped bankroll the Russian bid, Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich, is now said to be considering taking Arshavin to Stamford Bridge. The pair became good friends while travelling the world during the promotional tour and the billionaire believes that Arshavin could return to his former glory with a new challenge on the other side of London, therefore improving Russia’s chances of winning the Euros.

Ironically one of the players that has supplanted Arshavin in Wenger’s thoughts, Yossi Benayoun, was brought in on loan from Chelsea, so it may be possible that Arsene Wenger could return the favour by allowing Arshavin to go the other way?

Good. I can’t believe Wenger is bringing Arshavin off the bench when Alex Chamberlain just sits there. It baffles me! Game after game he comes on, looks disinterested and wastes good opportunites by being lazy and not caring.
Time to go I’m afraid, and if Chelsea want him, I’d personally drive him to the Bridge!!

No way bro. Zenit wanna buy arshavin for more than 10m. Benayoun is worth at least 5m. I rather take the money than a straight swap arshavin for benayoun

  3. Arsene pliz welcome that development for the betterment of our beloved team.let him go and make Bennayoun permanent or time to use chamberlan on the chances you were giving him….

how about we stop selling our players to our most bitter of rivals? like nasri to city, or adebayor another example, and theres quite a bit more, if he wants russian love sell him to Anzhi mackhaka in russia, since his the russian national teams captain they’ll pay top-dollar for him.

@bc I realize that you are just writing to either get thumbs ups or that you are just trying to be overly-hopeful but what you are writing doesn’t make sense with what Wenger does. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see Kalou or Alex join Benayoun at Arsenal because they are great at what they specialize in but that would be 3 weekly pay checks instead of 1. We have a very large team and Wenger does a decent job of rotating but Benayoun and Alex are getting up there in age. I say we sell Arshavin to whomever for xxxxxxx amount as well as trim the fat with some of our dead weight, and bring in some real talent. Not some bench warmers. We need to fix up the defence, add another striker, and do something with the mid because of the African Cup taking away Gervinho, Song, and Chamakh. SORRY FOR LONG POST!

Arshavin is class. I cant believe people say he should leave. He’s not played in the correct role. Take Robin and stick him out on the right-hand side of the midfield. Will he be as effective? Arshavin should play behind Robin. Ramsey is a good player but he does not provide that forward drive that Arshavin will in that position.

I hope Arshavin goes. He was really good when he first arrived at the emirates but now he just looks lazy and dosent bother to even try. If he wants to play for Arsenals first team he needs to bleed and work his ass off for hes shirt!

The current set is good but we really need a striker as good as RVP and a midfielder like Gotze if he joins us. Arsene really needs to do a Moneyball and see who is providing the maximum assists in the European leagues.

Imagine if he does go and AVB plays him in his natural role as a free midfield playmaker and he is as good as he was before he came to us.
It would prove he has been played out of position for so long it has affected his game.
The thing is we need change and as long as it happens I don’t care who we start with.

We should agree that last night when he came on the field, game changed, we became more attacking team, he had good passes, he was looking for a good opening, he makes less moves but all those moves he makes a very dangerous, notice the diffence of wolves when Arshavin was getting the ball. What is the point of all that running that Gervin makes, they are just waste of energy, all bark no bite! So Arsenal fans, we need to give credit to players when credit is due, not just sit and critisis somebody all the time. I bet if Arshavin would score the goal last nite we wouldn’t have this topic today!

Top Gooner!. Agree or not?: Thumb up 15 Thumb down 1

  23. Alex says:

Dee… Plain and simply.. we would have this topic regardless. And Gervinho may not be the best technically, but he makes up for it with his running and good workrate for the team. Arshavin along with Chamackh offer very little if nothing at all. Time for them both to go I’m afraid. Time to replace them with top players who can have an impact on the second half of the season!

  24. Nick says:

I say sell him to the highest bidder. Arsene has played him out of his natural position since he arrived and that’s not gonna change. He’s not going to flourish so we should sell him for as much as we can (preferably not to a team in the EPL). He wants to go and he’s just wasting the chance/time our other players could & should be getting off the bench. He’s negatively impacting our team in more than a couple ways.

Arshavin is one of my favourite players. It would make me sick to see him in a Chelsea jersey. That would be an awful move for him, anyways. He’d get even less playing time, and Chelsea are probably the WORST when it comes to reaching players’ potential. That’s where players go to kill their form. See: Torres, Shevchenko, Crespo

i dont understand one thing.. When a player wants to leave.. u wipe around and call him a traiter and shit.. nd nw wen Arshavin is still hea, u want him to leave.. hex going thru a bad season …there must b a reason for this.. there can b a way that may help him while he is in emirates.. Remember what he did agnst not only liverpool bt barca and other clubs..
If u are an arsenal fan u shud love every arsenal player equally.. every one has there good and bad days.. u love him wen they are good but u hate wen they are not good..

  29. Big Gun says:

@Bellerophon86 So who’s fault is that? Certainly not Arshavin’s. If he is being played out of position, only Wenger is to blame. I also think Arshavin would be better down the middle. We need someone like Bale or a left footed Walcott down the left. Marc Overmars anyone? What a great winger he was.

  30. Big Gun says:

Wenger obviously will not change his way of doing things. He will continue to play Arshavin down the left because ‘he always knows best.’ No wonder Arshavin has lost interest.

  31. Gery Gooner says:

I’d say Wenger should sell him to Anzhi because there, we won’t see him celebrate goals against us. I hate it whenever our ex-players celebrate a goal together with his teammates with a very big smile as if we didn’t give anything for him. Arshavin has lost his passion since he passed his first season with us. He started to feel irreplaceable.

    Agree??

  33. TAR says:

This guy has always been played out of position. the problem with Wenger is that he buys players with good qualities and uses them at their weaknesses. I think he is a better choice than Ramsey and Thomas in the center. He can shoot and take players on, the other 2 can’t really do much and are often substituted. Yossi was a poor decision. i dont think he can be compared to Arshavin, especially is he i played out of position.

I’d prefer that Arshavin be moved to Zenit instead of one of our biggest rivals. I wouldn’t swap him for Benayoun either as I’ve never been impressed with the player.

  35. S.H says:

@ Everyone who wants AOC to play so badly

Guys, it’s understandable that we all want AOC to play. We must also remember that he is only 18 and has limited experience in the EPL. We’ve seen him come off the bench and do great but we’ve also seen him start, play longer and have an average game. This just shows he is not yet a 90min player and Wenger knows this very well. The EPL games hold greater importance due to obvious CL qualification spots and financial advantages for the club. We all are worried about 4th position come May, and yet you guys are demanding Wenger to put AOC on; a player with great potential but not yet ready as he’s still learning. A player learning on the pitch is great but that could cost us losing possession and conceding goals.

So I ask kindly, those who demand AOC to play, take a step back, take a deep breath, assess the BIG PIC, let Wenger do his job and chill out. AOC will eventually play and then he would be sharp and mentally ready for the game. Last thing we need right now is for AOC to play and let fans down with their expectations because he’s not ready. Give the kid a break. He’s still young.

On second thought..if trade Arshavin to Chelsea on a straight up Swap for Torres. If that’s not enough we can throw in Bendtner to sweeten the deal.

Arshavin + Squillaci + Chamakh should be sold or loaned out. Cut our losses yet make room for fresh talent. Give more game time to Coquelin, Frimpong and AOC. Bring back Joel campbell. Get in a top striker currently on form and a utility left back as Sagna is close to healing. Make a statement with a bid for Mario Goetze or Eriksen of Ajax. Even if we dont get them its a fantastic statement to RVP we are serious in competing for silverware and good squad building.

  39. You all seem to miss the point AV for some reason keeps buying these so called players off season and they never perform Chamaq cant hit a ball so how can you call him a stiker as for Gervino well he is no striker Bring back Bentner play chamberlin rt side and Walcot lft When Wilshere is back and Diaby, if he can last at least 3 games then we can judge if he is right in his choices you cant expect Arshavin to be happy being only playing in CUP games allso where the hell are these Japanese guys he bought If they dont win this week AV will have to go as we wont be in top 4 and RVP will leave and good luck to him. 40. Kyle says:

Wenger got him for 11m pounds. Don’t think Wenger will be making any profit by selling him, and will only be making more room for midfielders. However, swapping him for Benayoun and maybe another 5million on top, in the form Benayoun is in, that will be a great deal, and would turn over a profit with points and a stronger midfield.

    Gooners till I die!
