Coquelin gets new deal at Arsenal but Luke Freeman is allowed to leave
The versatile Arsenal midfielder/defender Francis Coquelin has been rewarded with a new extended contract at the Emirates. The 20 year-old impressed in a year-long loan at Lorient last season and his steady improvement persuaded Wenger to promote him to the fringes of the first team.
Due to the massive defensive injuries at Arsenal, the French U19 international has already made nine appearances for the Gunners this season and has impressed under difficult circumstances. He fully deserves to move on up in the next few seasons.
Meanwhile Luke Freeman, who was once touted as a future England striker after making ten appearances for the national U17 side, scoring six goals in the process. But a series of niggling injuries has interrupted his development and he was sent out on a six-week loan to Stevenage in League One in November.
He has obviously impressed them as he made five starts for the club in that time, and he has now signed a two and a half year contract. So that’s one more player off the payroll at least!

Arsenal big wigs have done a good job here and it looks like they’re learning from their past mistakes with previous high profile players.
Coquelin is on the rise and this is the best time to secure his services for the next few years. He will only improve. When he went down holding his hamstring, my initial thought was “damn it another defender loss!”
Djourou has done ok in RB, but we can all clearly see that he doesn’t have the innate ability in this role. Yennaris has impressed every game that we’ve seen him play. The half Chinese half Cypriot has blistering pace and with more time on the pitch can really challenge Sagna in this role. It’s about time we have someone to compete with Sagna for RB. Wenger will most likely play the Swiss, but really sometimes Djourou can be a dopey clown!
Please Wenger play Yennaris!

I understand that this site probably relies on advertising to keep it running and I’m grateful for your hard work in provisioning a forum for all Arsenal fans, but the incessant sound that comes from this site is highly annoying! I have to turn off my sound so to not eventually blow my head off with a shot gun from madness.
Louie the fly (fly spray), Natalie Portman and that summer loving song snap me! Please do something about this as I’m sure many others experience the same agitation!

I am surprised they sold Freeman. I liked the kid and wanted to see him play in our first team. Oh well. I hope the best for him. God willing he will make it the BPL some day soon.

I agree completely! The problem is that the ad networks are geo-targeted and the ads that appear are different depending on what country you are in! As much as I try to ban any particular ads that are extra annoying, there always seems to be another three to take its place.
I will attempt to ban any ads that readers can tell me about. None of them should have intrusive noise as far as I’m concerned.

Coquelin has a future at the club its good we tied him down for longer. But Wenger really needs to buy Aly Cissokho, from Lyon. The owner has admitted he will sell and apparentely under 10 million euros! What a bargain for a strong, fast, defensively and offensively minded left back, just what we need. Because lets face it Santos isnt quick or strong defensively he is more of a winger than a left back. Very good for a sub though. I feel sorry for gibbs but he wont ever be able to play 5 games without getting injured. So Cissokho will be our starting left back so until any full back or vermealen comes back it will be : Yennaris/Djorou. Koscielny. Mertesacker. Cissokho
And when everyone is fit our defence will be one of the strongest and in depth defence in the league: Sagna. Vermealen. Koscielny. Cissokho, think about it, Wenger.
Opinions divided. What do you think?

I applauad this signing of the Coq. The lad clealry has his heart in it, and to me at times he looks like a dog straining at the leash – I can see him developing as an aggressive style of defender.

Pleased for him, Hope he gets a good run. He needs to start bulking up thought as he does look a little lightweight.
Against the likes of Dogbar he would be brushed aside.
But he has taken his chances well. The returning full backs will have a challenge now. This is the kind of strong competition for places we have lacked for so long.

I think we need 2 left backs one mature and one young as we clearly do nt have any coming through baines and shaw fit the.bill nicely. they are 10 years apart in terms of age. One of gibbs botelho and santos can provide the immediate challenge to baines whilst the other 2 replace arshavin and compete with ryo for left wing.

I predict Coquelin will be better than song and frimpong. The kid always gives 100% when he plays…wishing you quick recovery dawg! Peace out Gunners!!
