Could Arsenal be about to miss another transfer target?

There are worrying reports emanating from Germany that suggest Arsenal are close to missing out on the transfer of the talented young midfielder Lewis Holtby. The dynamic 22-year old played against the Gunners this season in the champions league for the German club Schalke, and was very impressive.

With his contract at Schalke due to end in the summer, Holtby has told the Bundesliga club that he is ready for a move to the Premier league. A number of clubs were interested in him, but it seemed as if Arsenal were leading the race. His first choices were Everton, who his English father supports, and Arsenal, because of our history, style of play and reputation.

Everton would struggle to match his wage demands, so we should have been clear favourites, but now it seems as if Holtby is on the verge of a pre-contract agreement with Tottenham that will see him move to White Hart Lane at the end of the season for nothing, according to Metro. If this is true, it is worrying for Arsenal fans.

Tottenham should not be beating us to our transfer targets, especially when they are available for nothing. Surely we could match the wage offer of Spurs. Has somebody decided he is not good enough, or have we simply been too slow to act? I really hope this rumour is not correct, because Holtby is a quality player who would fit in well at Arsenal.

They dont have their own scouts. just see who Arsenal are interested in and put a bid.

Also Adrian Lopez contract up at the end of season?

We can discuss terms with him from now surely then?

Probably a bit off both we haven’t acted as fast and maybe we don’t see him as needed as we have a lot of midfielders already in the squad.

Its probably true, cos Wenger just said he’s more interested in signing Theo than making other signings.Despite reports that Arsenal had fresh talks with Theo yesterday,i don’t think these reports are true because his chief cheerleader in the media John Cross said in the mirror that there were no talks yesterday. He said that there should be talks in the coming days.
Basically all this means is that we won’t sign anybody and Walcott will sign a the end of the month maybe. And they think the fans will be happy with that.Wenger MUST GO at the end of season if this is the case.
Can’t a “big” club do more than 1 thing at a time?

Another news is that Mourinho is upset with Coentrao so he will probably sell him in the january or summer.I think we should go for him( I dont know his wage). But the problem would be that Mourinho hates Wenger and Arsenal.

I feel Spurs will overtake Arsenal. Just imagine, Spurs beat us to Lloris, Dembele, Vertongen and now Holtbe. Imagine if we had signed all these players where we would be. Wenger’s time is up, he must just go before he completely destroys the team like Benitez did to Liverpool. And it is so damn difficult to rebuild a midtable team.

Here we go again. Wenger is a twat…blah blah blah. He is not the one that negotiates contract for new or existing players. He identifies a player and Gazidis does the rest. If Gazidis drags his heels because Kroenke needs the money for his ranch that has nothing to do with Wenger.

Onto Holtby……They are pure rumours. Metro’s article has as much credibility as me suggesting Messi is coming to Arsenal for free and will play for free.

Blogs write articles that we are signing XYZ without any Source from within Arsenal.

People like @leo (harmlessly, I must add) report every single rumour they hear from around the internet – but again without any source from within Arsenal.

Yet its Wenger/the boards fault we didn’t sign these players!?! How does that work?

Also has anyone considered players wouldn’t want to sign for us because how we treat our current players, we have some of worst fans in sport?

mate your absolutly right we’ve appallingly missed out on some real class players for want of spending peanuts and its disgusting we will without doubt miss out on real key players cos we dont wanna pay the asking price its been like this for years unyet when someone wants to buy our players we state a price and then back down under pressure thats smacks of a board that are more interested in the money than the prestige of winning trophies or our reputation amonst our competition amongst our peers, Fergie has already stated that RVP will win the league for MAN URE … why is he NOT still in an arsenal shirt??

mate the fact is that your a “department” manager your not soley in charge of your companies revenue stream howvere the results that Wenger delivers have a direct effect on the clubs earning and spending capability and the fact is this whoever is directly responsible for the actual spending and signing of contracts, they are not doing thier job effectivly and this is in part down to our degraded reputation now and also in part down to our inability to fianacially compete. ten years ago agents had no problem getting thier clients to sign for the Arsenal now its a struggle cos of our tarnished reputation and also cos we just dont offer the money its as simple as that. I run my own area of the business i work in and If I can make an argument for an investment into something that will repay that investment and then make profit then my boss listens and we try our best to aquire the goods that make this happen. The boar are reluctant to spend and Wenger thinks that players are greedy and not worth what they are demanding, he could be right but thats the way the world is, you either spend 25 grand on a top rank car or you dont get one regardless of if the actual value of it is that. its what the market rate is so pay it or give up and do one its as simple as that!!!

You guys make me sick on this site! Can’t you see Wenger and the board are waiting for 31st January midnight to bring in a coup fringe, unknown and useless players to pay them 60k, 70k and 90k for sitting on the bench? Between now and 31st January Wenger will be looking for top (cheap), top (cheaper), top (cheapest) players to add quality to the squad. I told you before this guy is s scavenger. That’s what will happen when our rivals have bought all the quality players available in this window. Arsenal FC is a cash cow for Wenger and the board!

But don’t you see, from your speculative rumours people have equated this Arsene not wanting to spend money or Gazidis doing nothing – when neither is true.

Yes there is smoke without fire, all it takes is an agent to mention to someone that Arsenal are interested in their player and its reported.

Ba probably had no interest in playing for Arsenal, but he would have used our name to push through a deal elsewhere.

    @Arsenal 007

No with Sahin Real madrid wanted £10m for a 1 year loan, and I’m sorry that is a JOKE. Even liverpool are trying to end the loan deal early.

Mata was a done deal until Chelsea got involved, then the price went up a few meal and his wages would have been 30-40k/week more. Thats a case of us not competing – besides if we got Mata we wouldn’t have got Santi and Santi is better.

I have to disagree with you. Based on your comment Wenger can be classed as the sales director or business development director at best. If that is the case he still does not have the authority to make financial decisions. He can make recommendations but ultimately the board will make the decision. In an owner managed business, which Arsenal can be classed as, the ultimate signoff is Kroenke’s to make.

Wenger is not a board member at the club and does not have the powers associated with a executive director so can not make decisions. He informs Gazidis to get him players and the decision I imagine is between Gazidis and silent Stan.

tbh i dont really care if walcott leaves his the reason why we aren’t buying anyone AW is paying too much attention on him when we should be fixing are defensive problems. if walcott goes, we should get lopez and david villa 2 replace him both of them are better them him and know how 2 score goals in DM we should go for someone who plays like seedorf, strong, agressive and could score goals and we need a both footed winger who can cross the ball and shoot from long distance, etc pedro.

You’ve answered your own statement right there. No matter what business you are in, the boss has the final say on spending. Anyone can advise him to buy, doesnt mean it going to happen. Kroenke owns/owned a number of sports clubs in the US and he has bled them dry, and if thats the business strategy the manager cant do f*** all about it!!
