Cruyff – Barcelona need Fabregas

Posted on June 07, 2011 by admin

As usual during any transfer window there is the constant mutterings from Spain about Cesc Fabregas, and today’s offering is from the Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff, who still works for the European Champions.

Many Arsenal fans are secretly hoping that, if their captain gets his wish to rejoin his boyhood club, that he will spend most of the time on the bench as Barcelona probably already have the best midfield line-up in the world in Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Xavi, but Cruyff still thinks that Barca need Fabregas.

He said: “If Cesc signs there will be four players for three places, which means all of them can share out a lot of games.

“There comes a stage in the season when everything is at stake but the team is out of gas.

“As good as the Barca players are – and they are good – there comes a time where they’ve played too many games.

“You need players not only to strengthen competition but also to move things around without upsetting the team’s rhythm.”

Mind you it sometimes seems that Fabregas doesn’t have a problem watching the game from the bench. He’s only played in half of Arsenal’s games this season……

in short, he is saying that Fabregas would need to wait until someone gets injured for him to get to play at Barca. He’d only serve the purpose of being the competition to have other players on their toes.

No he isn’t… He’s clearly stating that the four of them would rotate 3 positions. That means that only one of them rest at a time and so they would only rest for quarter of the games in a season each. People are too thick to understand rotation…

  5. Aussie Jack says:

This is a very sensible approach and one that should be adopted more by Arsenal. These are not bench players they are planned to `rotate` and sustain the energy and concentration levels of the team for the entire season whilst not disturbing the rhythm. It costs a fair bit to do this as a `rotation squad` (I`ve invented a new phrase I think)must all be at the highest level). This means you can rest a player every fourth or fifth game, he may not even be on the bench.

The message is clear,if fabrigas goes 2 barcelona he will only be a back up for xavi nd iniesta or he wil be played out of position maybe central defender

fabregas can also play back up to messi as shadow striker. good players come and go, but not all can mix. he couldnt tag team with vieira, which was the original plan. the previous harmony achieved was built around one guy – dennis bergkamp, but not possible to find such entity in today’s market. barca’s style cannot be emulated, our own flavour must be cooked up. i also hope the fans can sit nearer to the pitch at emirates.

WTF Fab will be played over sergio all day. Fab was giving out parting gifts the other day. He will go to Barcelona this season I can guarantee. We are best to go for cash + a player deal.

Its not like they are buying a sub…they are buying a rotation in their midfield to give all their stars including cesc a break now and then.

They play as a team and win as a team. Besides if he wins a trophy its worth every bit or his sacrifice, considering wenger is trying to buy free agents and kids again to take us to the top of the game.

  10. Bilzo says:

if they buy fabregas, they will have keita, mascherano, xavi, iniesta, affellay, biscuits and cesc, if they were going to rotate, im pretty sure they would have already

Cruyff’s talking about 4 players for 3 places. He’s not talking about the defensive midfield positions covered by busquets, keita and mascherano. He’s most likely saying that the afellay, xavi, iniesta and fabregas will be rotated for the advanced positions.

WTF Fab will be played over sergio all day.

    ==============================

If you think that is the case, why is Sergio Busquets always starting for Spain ahead of Fabregas? Fabregas will rot on the bench at Barca at least until Xavi retires or is past his peak.

  13. Jazz says:

@James – Spain play Barcelona’s midfield – It is true that FAB will sit on the bench at first and have to prove him self like Nasri did but, he will SHINE and he will SHINE brighter than Sergio. Barcelona are not fools and FAB is very classy. Just look on you tube at his goals for Arsenal. People completely underestimate him – even now. Sergio WTF I can guarantee FAB will be in starting line within one season.

@Jazz, you have not answered my question, I asked why is Busquets starting for Spain ahead of Fabregas?

  17. toby says:

busquets is the rock that give xavi and iniesta licience to play, no busquets no licience to play, dont be so dim you lot you cant rotate or drop busquets coz neither fab xavi or iniesta cant do his job, or theres without him!

  18. Jazz says:

@ James ehr Fab was not fit and when he nearly scored. What people are forgetting is that Fab is a midfielder that can naturally fit in to the Barcelona’s midfield and with the service he will receive at Barcelona – he WILL be stiff competition for Sergio and eventually be played ahead of him. That is just my opinion, he is not a Helb blah blah this is Fab were talking about.

  19. Avish says:

barca and spain play beautiful tiki taka… positions are not so very rigid unlike other teams…take the Champions League Finals against Man Utd…all the players are rotating around the field wihtout letting go of the ball… even as one Man U player gets the ball, three Barca players pounce on him like hungry dogs. Man Utd didnt have so versatile players and were beaten badly. So, Fabregas fitting in makes sense. I would doubt that he would be on the bench more than when he is (was) at Arsenal. I cant see him getting injured often at Spain. Football is not so physical there.

    For Fabregas:
Barca is more like home. His family all have been Barca fans.
More importantly, he’s part of the golden generation of Spain = Barcelona, he WILL win medals.

    For Barcelona:
they know his worth and he could be the replacement for Xavi after some time.
Cruyff’s idea (as always-he designed what barcas are today) is awesome. (Rotation thing)

    For Arsenal:
they should try to get the most out of it, money and maybe a young talent.
and use the money getting another midfielder.
