David Dein says Wenger will not be easy to replace

Posted on August 08, 2011 by admin

The ex-Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein believes you can’t write-off Arsene Wenger achievements and expects that the Frenchman will still come good for the Gunners if e is just given time to sort things out.

Dein said: “Arsene is very focused and very determined. I see a man who still has as much fire in the belly today as when he started,” .

“He wants to win. I believe in his ability and I know for a fact he is trying very hard to improve the squad this year and I hope he does it.

“People have got to remember what he has achieved. It is easy in life to get rid of people. Then what? How do you follow Arsene Wenger? That is going to be the trick for the board and it is not going to be easy.”

I like that KNOWS FOR A FACT in his statement. Let’s all hope that Wenger does manage to get his targets, or everyone is going to be very red-faced at the end of the month….

***Anders: The signings Arsenal need to make them the complete team!***

The fact is that, no top manager would want to manage Arsenal FC because all top managers tend to spend huge amounts of money on players. Regardless of Wenger, it is still Arsenal FC’s spending policy and most managers would not survive nor even take the job.

  3. Wenger is a joke says:

Off course Wenger is an excellent manager when we look at what he has achieved. But he also has to take responsibility for building a team that so obviously lacks the basics.

I would love for Wenger to just address the issues the team has and after that I don’t even care about trophies.

No-one will be redfaced. Pre season is for getting new signings adjusted to the club, new teammates, training, tactics, list goes on. We have not been able to do any of that. That is of course if Wenger signs anyone else.

bergkamp would b a million times better adviser 2 arsene then Pat rice will ever be………he’ll actually force arsene 2 buy n lehmann coaching the keepers seems a smart idea if we don’t get an exp GK in as well as Tony Adams coaching the defence, instead of the joke we got in now, n henry (when his ready) can teach vela, walcott n all those fast guys how 2 actually score a goal n when arsene throws in the towel 5-10yrs later bergkamp can just take over having extensive experience n knowledge of arsenal f.c’s policies exc.

all above are good comments….many of us said this was wenger’s last chance to put things right…he hasnt…even if he gets the players this week, he has left it too late and the fall out from cesc and nasri is leaving a bad taste for arsenal anyway.I cannot believe he hasnt signed a centre-back…personaly i believe he needs 2 proper quality players there to challenge for the league and cups.
Going into the season with that defense is like walking into a lions den armed with a only a plastic spoon!

DD I honestly thought more of you than to try and put out drivel like that. We all know that the board dont want to spend and is a shareholders paradise. We all know that Wenger is passed it, we all know the club is going nowhere so please stop trying to tell us ‘who will replace him’

yes he has done great things but he could have done so many more great things if he wasnt so stubborn and offensive minded. Arsene’s tactic is to outscore his opponents lol duhhh

Yes Mr Dein “He wants to win” problem is he forgot how to a long time ago.

    Ok sir..david dein(we missed u by the way)vey badly
but he didn’t achieve half of what fergie did,i know you’re friends outside of football n am not expecting less then u dying by his side, hold on,surely his time is up.
wenker’s doing exactly what he said would be a mistake(forced into panic buys in the last week of the market, when all the fine players aren’t available, lol @ that.
also he still wana sign kids,f*cking depressing.
if we gona have to wait for campbel to grow into the player we now want, why sell bendtner?i prefer wait for him(at least he knows the system we play inside out)where is the commanding midfielder..where is the defence..where’s the keeper that gets you 10/15 points a season, where’s the top class forward arsenal deserve,in six years ferguson built two teams & won every single trophy available,so what you saying?

  15. how can a coach at a big club like arsenal who have not won a silverwear in six years be hard to replace, there is no one worse than that….we always loose ours silverwears at the end of each campaign, for six years!!! but it seems as if this time around we have no chance…i guess paul scholes was right about arsenal…

  16. Abbey says:

I see now David Dein his no longer the chosen one because he speaks the truth. You call for the managers head and am sure u will make suggestions of possible replacements probably some names that couldn’t even deliver for Chelski. Taking into considerations Asenal’s spending and wage policy i don’t see any manager that could do the same job as wenger. I love to see more signings so that we can be in with a chance of winning the league. The current first team is still better and i repeat better and can match the likes of Chelski and Manure anyday.(excl Squid) Did u see Clichy yesterday against Manure? he is too blame as much as VC for the goal. We now have Gervinho in place instead of Bentner playing on the wings. Verminator is back so even without further signings the question i like to ask most of you ranting about doom is how do you go from 4th (actually contesting to win the league & manage to beat Barca at teh Emirates) to being doomed/finishing outside the top4. As much as i hate to say this Nasri & Fab4 are still our players and under contract until they sign a contract with another club (Fab hardly even played last season).
Admin if this site is truly to support the Arsenal cause kindly focus your articles more on rallying cry for wenger to sign more quality players so we can be in with a chance of winning the PL and compete in Europe.
Pls Enough with helping the media spread the news of disaster. You heard Martin Keown during the Emirates Cup (He is a professional not just an Arsenal fan)We need more signings to win the league but please and please Arsenal is not doomed. ‘Lost pre-season friendly in the second half with Squid and a lot of young players that has not played at this level before so what!!! That’s why it is called pre-season.

According to gunninghawk and daily mail Southampton’s Alex cahmberlain is undergoing a medical at arsenal today so he could be revealed as a new signign this afternoon.

I hope this is correct, hes a fucking awesome player, seen him play a lot in championship last year, he would fit STRAIGHT into the squad nicely.

  18. Ambrose Ayesigye says:

Wenger’s problems are self created. He doesnt listen. He doesnt learn from his past mistakes, he doesnt open to positive criticism .His judgement has gone wanting and he has failed to live in the real world sutuations. His utopian thinking cannot push Arsenal any where. He is simply living in an imaginary world.

His philisopy of developing youngsters into winners has backfired. Six years down the road, no trophy. He has also conceeded that, only to turn around and go contrary to his already stated position. Chief Executives need to have predictable behaviours.
However, if you critically assess his actions in the market now, his attention is still focused on the same youngsters. The amount of money being paid for Campbell(teen),Alex(teen)etc is sufficient to by an experienced player the team badly needs. Those teens are not exception. The Velas,Denlison, Eboue etc came when he expected wonders from them. He fails to understand the challanges that come about during one’s development curve.

Dein we are not surprised, those are words expected out of your close intimacy. However, as a friend we would as well expect you to be objective and techinically advise your friend.

Challange me, Wenger can not got to any of the big clubs with ambitions ie Real Madrid, Barcelona, Beyn Munich, Chelesea etc and survive for even one.He knows that very well.

Arsenal has lost the Goodwill in the tranfer market. It is going to be increasingly difficult for Arsenal to attract good players. As such the opportunity cost incurred because of his attitude in the transfer market is very ernomous and regrettable.

  19. richie says:

Wenger should demostrate all of this arguments by not selecting disastrous players such as eboue, squillaci and almunia over the rest of the squad.

If only he picked players correctly, we would be in a different ground.

Also, chamack is currently not better than theo, vela, gervinho, myachi, arsahvin and van persie. So he shouldn’t be starting ahead of any of them.

  20. Wenger is a joke says:

What is this crap about Wenger doing miracles on a budget? He could quite easily have brough a proper defender and Schwarzer last season on his budget and then the calamity of the CC final, which went on to ruin the rest of the season, would not have happened.

Budgets are only an excuse. He has at least 80% of a squad to be competitive and has done so for a couple of years. It is him that is refusing to address the remaining 80% of the issue. Instead he has persevered with the likes of Denilson, Almunia, Squallaci etc when he shouldn’t have bought these players in the first place.

Limited budget argument = bullshit. There are players exchanging hands for under £10m that are better than the Arsenal player in that position! Wenger chooses to ignore these players and instead on his never ending hunt for the next big superstar.

  21. arsenal till i die says:

its true that wenger is irreplaceable. even our own legend thierry henry himself quote ” keep wenger in charge for life ” we cant blame wenger on this. its just he is trying his very best to revolutionize the football way, the arsenal way. he so far havent met the replacement for the departure of our very best player. he wont spend, cause he have faith in his younger lad. in his team. in arsenal. we must have his back, if the fans dont support, who will? though were on a 6 year without trophy drought, we must keep the faith. if he make this coming signings as he quote, alex-oxlade chamberlain from southhampton, joel campbell from costa rica, for defence might be gary cahill, per mertesacker or samba. he wont buy phil jagielka cause of his age and the price tag is not reasonable. he might also sell samir nasri for 25 mil as reported on arsenal.com MEDIA WATCH to fund a bid for juan mata. if he does all this, and let go our captain cesc fabregas. i have faith that the team wont be distracted with the saga and rumours about nasri. if wenger make this particular signings and sell fab, i have faith, that were going to see the arsenal that we missed a lot from the glory days for this 2011/2012 season. IN ARSENAL WE TRUST, IN ARSENE WE TRUST, KEEP THE FAITH, ARSENAL TILL WE DIE.

No doubt Wenger is a good coach. But for some years now, he has lost it. And in this line of business/coaching. U either get hired or fired. So, it do not belive what Dien said, cos Wenger can be fired, cos he is not the owner of the club. I wonder why fans dont have a say in a club. That is bad.
