Time for Wenger to change his ways by Davo

After reading your lastest posts on Arsene and his total lack of spending, I had to write something as I thought I was part of a minority of frustrated Arsenal fans!! Living in Australia It’s hard to get up to date information, and at best they are only hopeful rumours…So as you asked for comments, I just had to say a few words, as I am so annoyed!!!…

It has to be time for spending, and buying some quality players surely!…

I cant understand why Arsene cannot go the extra 2 million or so to finalise a deal, he always seems to stand by and let all manner of players pass us by!!…

I firmly believe that if he had bought Cahill and Schwarzer last year we would have at least finished second and maybe even had some silverware to finish the season… but no, he could not pay that little bit extra!!!

Does this money come out of his pocket?!! I have read that we are after Cahill, Samba, Gervinho and Alvarez (Mata is out of the question at £20m eh?), all players I believe could keep us in the hunt for a Premiership title, but I firmly believe we will be lucky to get one of those names…..

I would love to think otherwise, but I am probably dreaming!! We will be lucky to have a place in the Europa this coming year, and we will lose more quality players in the process…

I am totally fed up with comments like “we cannot spend that sort of money” etc etc etc bla bla bla…it is so boring now…

Give Nasri his pay rise!, LET Cesc go, as he has lost the heart to play for us now, and use his fee to get this club where it should be!! I am sorry Arsene but if we cannot produce this year you will have to go, and let us have a manager that will buy, and give us hope of returning to our winning ways!!!!!!!!!!!!…
————————————————————————————–

Well there is lots of exclamation marks there from our Australian friend. It seems that Arsenal fans from all over the world would like Wenger to get his chequebook out! What do you think?

totaly OK with you…As long as Wenger is trying to prove us he is right with his non-spending policy arsenal will never win anything…Last year we did assist to a show with nine french players or speaking french on the field…That’s shame because A.W, always said he does not look at the players passport, but it seems that is not right…
So Mr Wenger just respect arsenal fans because they are paying you with STRONG POUND NOT WITH EURO AND THIS IS ENGLISH LEAGUE, AND YOU WOULD NEVER USE 9 FOREIGN PLAYERS IF YOU WERE IN FRENCH LEAGUE…

  3. GOONER1 says:

    100% agree.
I hurts to see Arsenal like this, we have money and we the fans know it is there, the prices for anything at the emirates are ludicrous. I was expecting some serious change this summer with several players coming in and many of the mediocre half wits leaving.
    BUT NOTHING!
Just another “prospect” for the future which hopefully Wenger will not be a part of. I completely understand that he transformed the Arsenal into a serious force during the late 90′s and early 2000′s but as Chelsea and United have caught up we’ve stagnated and subsequently been passed by them and with the resurgence of Liverpool, the spending power of City and the addition of the Scum, I am truly worried for my team. Unless Wenger does not change his tight money management and spend some real money on some real players with talent, we will never reach the great heights we once ruled, the future will be very bleak and more of our top quality players will abandon ship.

    totally agree…

the current transfer policy needs to be thrown out the window, its a false economy.
If we do not spend, we will struggle for a Champions league spot by the end of next season… then lose the £60m plus that we get for the champiuns league…
paying the extra £2m or so for players doesnt seem a bad option if you consider not qualifying for the champs league..

As you say it’s not wengers wallet… I’m not sure it depends on him only. If the owner decided to get great names he would make it happen, as abrahamovic does. Wenger is tied to a limited and unambitious budget. He’s doing the best he can. But he has a responsability concerning the teams spirit. I’m not saying the spirit is not good, but it’s weak at times. Strong and charismatic players can change that. Undermotivated players shall leave as harmony is the first step to victory… I guess it’s more complicated than buying expensive players just to impress the fans. And most of these players are expensive because of one good season. How come sanchez is more expensive than fabregas? And neymar? cavani? Their mediatic exposition has made their price increase and that’s not what arsenal is looking for. Money has to be spend and will be spend but building harmony requires patience as we need to know who leaves and who stays before we know who comes. That’s why I hate barcelona’s attitude! wenger wants fab to stay, but barcelona’s pressure is too strong and the player himself doesn’t make it clear. We’re hostages in this case. Same for nasri, but I’m more convinced he will stay. After that we will know if we can afford players like benzema/falcao mata or gervinho, or a strong midfielder (vidal?). Defense is definitely going to be the priority wether fab stays or not. At least money should be spend here!
    Trust.

  8. Grant says:

It might not be wenger all of the time and it is a business so what is the point of going into major debt for a player and the board won’t let this happen it is their job. I am one who agrees that we shouldn’t spend silly money on players and that once the FIFA fair rules comes into play we will be one of the best equipped teams to handle it. However, we do need some more players and need to keep onto our own I think cesc will stay at arsenal until xavi leaves barcelona then he will jump ship, we need to get a new board in as they are too business focussed and are missing out quality players for just above what we are willing to pay example schwarzer. But at the moment with all the rumours flying around I a, extremely worried for my beloved arsenal. Oh and also did anyone see the annual arsenal conference thing Ivan gazidas didn’t really answer any questions at all and the money they are not spending is mostly the fans then they have the cheek to put the ticket prices up I say put the prices up when we start spending money even reasonable fees I am not asking us to break the world record transfer fee and only put the ticket prices up when we start winning trophies because arsenal tickets are probably the most expensive in the league and we always leave disappointed and angry well I do.

I am seriously worried that we are going to drop out of the top 4! I have never felt like this before! Let Fabregas go as he wants to! We need to sell a whole host of squad players and replace them with quality! I would say we need to spend 100 million this summer if we want to win the league! That’s not just our money but the money we get for selling players! Just replace players leaving! I don’t think replacing Bendtner with Gervinho will make much difference!! He is a quality player that other managers would spend time in their pre match team talk talking to the players about! No one would envy us and take notice unless we make some huge signings!!!

Screw Nasri, Screw Clichy and Screw Fabregas. City can have Nasri and Clichy for £30m or they can offer a whole host of players in return. Lescott, Richards, Milner, Given, Adam Johnson, Boateng and Bridge. I would take any or all of those 7 in a swap package with a cash adjustment.

Barca can have Cesc for £35m plus Affelay. That £35m could be spent where we really need it.

Bendtner, Denilson, Rosicky, Eboue, Diaby, Squillaci, Almunia, Traore, Vela can all go as well.

    Debt Wins Prizes….

Sad but true.Lets look at the major leagues across europe (and Scotland)..the facts are irrefutable: Spend more, win more.
Arsenal crumbled with a whimper at the tale end of last season allowing an under par man utd. to win the title. We were close but the refusal to buy in January certainly cost us dearly.
Financially, football is not a level playing field and asuch we have to face facts. When Liverpool sold Torres they immediately reinvested in Carroll and Suarez (great player). When, some time ago we sold Adebayor and Kolo to add to what we were told was sufficient transfer funds the investment didnt stack up to the income.
And so it goes on. Be it Arsene or the board, the old adage “speculate to accumulate” has got to be applied. The sale of all or some of Cesc,Bendtner,Denilson,Rosicky,Eboue and Arshavin would still leave us in the black even after ‘big name’ signings.Signings required on the pitch to perform and off it to lift the fans.
As to the question of whether Wenger should go… No. End of. Cant help feeling David Dein wouldnt go amiss though…..

that is the main problem is we have lots of more overseas fans, who have only followed this club since Wenger has been there. Don’t really know what money is, play Football manager and thinks thats how the world works in real life. Look at the threats on here and other websites towards the manager. just give Nasri what he wants, what’s the odd millions-wage structure, once Nasri hgets more money every one else wants more. This is not monopoly money.

  15. realistic tony says:

The issue IS money. Man utd apparently in 700million debt have just spent approximately5o million on 3 players. Arsenal a club that is ,managing a loan for the emirates and has turned a profit on their many investments and operations, but has spent nothing yet and its not predicted that they will spend big. Its a peculiar irony to me that we will never spend 30 million on a player that the top 5 clubs have done, when we are probably best placed financially to do so.The problem with years of austerity and stringent budgeting is that it becomes the norm. Years of miserly deals have cemented the mindset of wenger…he couldnt splash the cash if he wanted to…a bit like an addict trying to kick the habit.i think its as psychological as that and not one of balance sheets.
Therefore wenger needs the pressure from all quarters to force his arm…im afraid left alone we would buy the type of players he has disasterously introduced recently; squillacci for example.
We are a BIG club and we need to start acting like one, not hard-bargaining on a few million and losing a player that would make or break the season.

I would like to Echo realistic tony’s sentiment, Arsenal remind me of a guy who has spent his life saving up, and now it has come to spending that money he has no clue how to because it has become endemic to his system. I was willing to live without trophies for five years because of our stadium, and the fallout from the economy. But now the stadium has pretty much paid for itself or is close to it. The stock’s at an all time high, but the football is starting to suffer, and the only way to deal with that is by fixing our deficiencies, and that includes blending our youth with experience. I hate to see Arsene get this much stick because he is the most successful Arsenal manager, and he is the reason I chose Arsenal as my team because I have followed him from his Monaco days. I have a feeling we will see Arsene leave at the end of next season because PSG is going to come calling, and for once he seems unwanted at Arsenal by a very vocal growing minority.

  21. Beasty gooner says:

    Sigh. More impatient fans.
Without Wenger this club would be mid table and we wouldn’t have had any chances of silverware.
Gervinho is currently undergoing a medical at Arsenal (many rumors say) and will probably be announced soon.
Likewise Cahill is likely to join in the coming weeks.

Give Arsene time, he knows what he’s doing. If he listened to idiotic fans like Alan Kemp, who doesn’t know anything, we would end up paying for overpriced, over rated players who end up giving mediocre performances.
^ Example, look at Chelsea spending 50m on Torres, or Liverpool spending 35m on Caroll, or City Spending a fortune on Dzeko. Have these names performed brilliantly and helped their teams win titles? NO

Therefore, Wenger’s way saves money and ensures the RIGHT players come to Arsenal. Be patient, you fans wishing him out disgust me, you don’t appreciate his genius at all.

For example, Wenger signed Fabregas on an 8 year contract, it’s likely he knew Barca would want him and so signed Csec on a long contract to ensure Arsenal would sell him for a very large profit.
The man is very experienced, has won titles with this club, and will win them again, now that he has acknowledged the teams flaws and is aiming to rectify them. So give him time, and stop bitching.

    In Wenger we trust.

  26. @ Steve.
Well if you do not give Nasri the pay rise he deserves, then he’s just going to play useless football just like Fabregas did last season i.e without his heart for the team. Then he will play out his remaining one year and will walk away for free. Now tell me Steve, where will Arsene get the money to replace Nasri with, if he does leave.

I agree with Adam Kemp when he says that quote from Albert Einstein on insanity. that is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.!!!

I mean what kind of manager identifies promising talented teenagers and pays peanuts for them, develops them into world class players and just when it is about time for them to reward the patience of the fans and club; they are sold off and some other teenager comes in and the entire cycle gets repeated over and over again. And the same bull of how we are going to win the title will be preached again and again just stupid lies and more lies.

Anyway i warned you guys at the end of last season that Wenger will not make any significant changes to the squad to enable us win trophies. the only significant changes will be weakening the squad through losing players like Fabregas, Nasri and in the not too distant future RVP et al.

Just gutted with this Arsene Wenger man and his Board of thieves!

  28. Gunnerguy says:

Wenger will unveil at least Gervinho and Alvarez soon. Gervinho has more than likely finalised the terms of his contract and Lille has already agreed to the transfer fee so the likelihood is that Wenger is waiting for the ink to dry on Alvarez to present them to the fans at the same time.
Gary Cahill will be done soon as well, Chris Samba will have to go through the red tape at Blackburn and might not get to come this year as Venkey’s may make an agreement with him similar to what went on between Wenger and Fabregas last year.
We will capture many of our targets so all of this criticism is short-sighted and only fuels misdirected frustration.

  30. Beasty gooner says:

    @Gunnersfans
The fact that Wenger paid little for these players makes sure that if he gets it wrong there isn’t too much of a problem. Imagen if he payed 20million for one of those players? Or he did a Chelsea and bought someone like Torres for 50million. IT would be a whole lot worse

Anyway, he gets it right much more than he gets it wrong:
Fabregas, Nasri, Henry, Anelka, Sol Campbell, Toure, Veria, Pires, RvP, Berkamp.
All world class players that wenger spotted at a relatively young age.
Anyway, now wenger is compromising and actually buying players he thinks will fit into the team this season. So let him take his time, so we don’t get anyone shit just because the fans want a ‘big buy’ to clam them down.

    @ Davo

I’m from Australia too and I fathom your frustration in Wenger, but you just have to be patient. The transfer season opens today and lasts for 2 months so it’s still early days. Pop a valium and chillax mate!

Wenger knows he made some crucial transfer errors last year and i feel the pressure is mounting to break his stubborn ways. We will be very busy especially over the next 2 weeks so strap tight and get ready for it. We might not be happy with some transfers but that’s life. No one liked Koscielny when he first joined, but he’s improved and will do better this year.

Sad to see Nasri and Fab go but letting them go could mean the start of a new era for Arsenal. We have to rebuild and this will take time. It’s this time that will kill all Gunners!

Yes Wenger gave us the Invincible Tag, but we are slowly and surely moving in the opposite direction! the last rumour i had was we lost out on Alvarez by 1.7mill !! if true, its just another typical outcome for a what is in todays market a miserly sum of money!!!
